My mother (I know you guys probably get sick of me talking about her) used to say that we should treat everyone the way that we ourselves would like to be treated ... if someone treats you badly then you should try and ignore them ... but if you can't then treat them the way that they treat you and they will soon learn that they don't like being treated badly ... and they will not continue the behavior. We the citizens should be non profit. Maybe my way of thinking is off.MOST of the non profits have more money coming in than we ever will think of. And their high pays to top people make you sick. WE the citizenstry to make ends meet while they enjoy. Many people have to get two jobs just to try to make ends meet. Whyshould we have to foot the bill while they enjoythe benifits? They don't even know what a hard days work is. One day of hard work would put them to bed for a week. My thoughts. Don't ask, send the non profits a bill like we get. And NO cutting corners. I feel the days for non profit should be long gone. I always thought non profit was soppose to help people. Now it's them helping themselves. Everything changes, this should include non profit. Make them pay like everyone else. Let themcarry their share. And see if their big wigs still get money they don't deserve. And give the citizens a break. We carried them on our backs long enough. Wouldn't it be nice when we get our Tax bill it read, PLEASE DONATE. What a wonderfulworld it would be.

I'll be honest here in that I am not the biggest fan of the University of Scranton. Unlike Granma however, I do recognize that there is a difference between an organization being engaged in charity and one that is considered not-for-profit for other reasons. In fact, the Internal Revenue Code says the following:
The exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3) are charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and the preventing cruelty to children or animals.
Now I could see having a discussion about whether or not not-for-profits should make contributions in lieu of taxes (they are not obligated to do so), but to make a blanket statement that all not-for-profit institutions should be banned is nothing short of IGNOTANT.

By the way, you can almost smell the class envy pouring out all over Granma's words.

City Block Closed For Private Party ?

Saturday night from5 PM to 2 AM the 800 block of N. Garfield Ave. was closed for a private party. The street was used for parking spots for the guests. It was on the scanner. The Police didn't even know WHy it was closed. Then it was said they had a permit. Kids were at the entrances only letting vehicles on that block that were going to the party. Is this something new? Or has it been done before? ANYBODY ?????? I also called a person that livesin that neighborhood and was told YES, the street was closed for parking . To me it is bad enough to close a St. for work that has to be done. But I find it very unreasonable for a party. What if there was an emergency in that block? Just the responce time of the emergency vehicle would be taken up by the people moving their vehicles. I also heard the people that had the party are highly political.
