It is amazing to me that the more we see of Fanucci and McGoff, the more ridiculous they look and sound. McGoff is like a junior Gilhooley, he is so smug and superior and Fanucci, well what can I say, if she gets any dumber even she will not know what she is talking about. She is so proud of her no smoking ban and believes that these fines are going to take care of the city's financial problems. Where did this woman go to school? How could you even think such a thing? From what she said at the meeting, she is going to assure that all smokers are cited. I guess this is her excuse for frequenting all the bars in the City, to make sure they are following the law. How did this woman get elected? Did anyone ever speak to her when she was running for office?
I am not a big follower of city council meetings. I do not have channel 61, and being a husband and father, I have better things to do on Thursday nights than stand around for hours with the council peanut gallery at city hall. But from all their bashing of Sherry Fanucci, what I gather from this is that Sherry was successful at getting a significant piece of positive legislation passed in this city. Also, the smoking ban was originally proposed by city high school students, serving as proof to other kids in this city that they CAN make a difference, that their opinion matters.......and that can only be positive. What I see is that Sherry made a difference...which brings me to this question: what has Janet Evans accomplished? Other than anti-Doherty, partisan bickering and being a mouthpiece for the monkey cage over at DD? I can't recall any significant piece of legislation that was the result of the work of Janet Evans.
Oh, and to all the naysayers who think that the smoking ban will drive away bar customers, I think for the first time in a while, I may go out to a bar and watch the Eagles playoff game this weekend, now that I know I can do so without having to come home smelling like an ashtray. And I might even take my wife and son for something to eat at some places I have avoided because of the smoke...the Glider and Kelly's come to mind. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has avoided such places in the past because of the smoke...

Well, she talks a good game and she's hell-on-wheels when you run into her in the grocery store, but alas, no legislation. She has made SOME changes though.
She got herself a new magic handbag to go with her magic wristcuffs and invisible airplane.
She's tamed her husband a little - we haven't heard of too many of his bar room brawls (but then again it's only January 5).
I hear for the next election she is going to use a more current picture of herself instead of the one (circa 1970) she uses now. You know the one - she looks like she could be her own daughter.
Word around the school is that she is actually going to pay attention to her students this year and not politic during class (when she speaks at all).
But legislation? In public or at council? nada, nothing, zip, zilch
I am someone who watches council meetings ... and I can tell you that you are right and Girl is right not one piece of legislation has ever come from Janet Evans ... and as a matter of fact she has never been for anything that is positive in this town ... she tries to make her fellow Council Members look as if they do not care about the citizens of Scranton ... she thinks that she is the only one that the people elected ... she conducts city business during school hours all of the time ... that's what she's doing on that cell phone in the hallways ... but she would have turned Bob McTiernan in if she found out he did it ... Hypocrite that's what she is best at ... being a Phony and a Hypocrite ... I do know her very well ... and that's my opinion of her ... from what I see on a daily basis ... she would walk right on by people in the hall without so much as a hello ... but if it's election time she's your new best friend ... what's up with that? She thinks her intellect is far superior to that of everyone around her and she speaks down to people continually ... but legislation ... nope she has never had one fresh idea of her very own ... so ... I would have to say no legislation by Jan.

She's used that seat to campaign for higher office from the very first second she sat down in it. Her platform seems to consist of nothing more than "I disagreed with Doherty every single time." She never seems to have the time to check her mail. Consistently she's the only one who doesn't know about something on the agenda, when it was delivered to her mailbox hours and even days earlier. Even if it was delivered an hour before session, it's obvious that she doesn't take the time to even so much as glance at anything before session. She's demonstrated time and again that she is the least prepared of everyone, yet she has plenty of time to craft elaborate three part questions to potential council members that really aren't about the candidate or their qualifications at all. She loved reciting the not-very-subtle-at-all anti-Doherty question, in her condescending tone of voice, five or six times on TV, so her fan club can see what she's doing for the people of the city.
If the DD drones are going to call this the worst, most ineffective council in history, they have got to include their queen. She's one of the main reasons nothing can get done. Judy Gatelli is by no means the rudest, stubbornest, or even worst councilwoman this city has. Maybe close to it, but she's no worse than your Janet. There is no way in hell Evans can be held above reproach when ripping into council.
I especially dislike her now because she made me spend the last 5 minutes or so of my life practically defending the mayor and Gatelli. Damn it, Janet....

Judy is one of the most real people who has taken a council seat. Some of the people who come to the podium show such disrespect and sophomoric, juvenile behavior. Judy has taken the high road many times by not arguing back at them. What does Judy do? She has them removed - plain and simple - she gives these foot-kicking brats a well-deserved time out.
and Janet? She must realize that the only people who listen to her are the above mentioned juveniles because she speaks as if she is placating a cranky toddler. And when she actually has something worthwhile to say - well ... I'll wait to make my comments about that when she finally says something worthwhile....

How is what you're saying much different than what I posted? And how does that make my post hypocritical?
The point of my post was that while Judy Gatelli may have an abrasive personality (which is fine; personality isn't necessarily a qualification for public service) and can at times be less than poliet to the speakers and fellow councilpersons, Janet Evans is as condescending and ineffective as it gets. Everyone gets ripped on the other board for having loftier goals and higher offices in mind, but never, not once, has Evans been called on that. And she has openly been using her seat on coucil to campaign and advance her own personal political agenda.
With all due respect, please point out where and how our posts are fundamentally different, and explain the perceived hypocrisy, please.
No No No - Janet is the hypocrite - and my comment meant that reply to your post should have been placed in the "find the biggest hypocrite" topic. I was agreeing with your post and adding my own two cents.
I see stars every time that bitch's name is mentioned. How the voice changes when she's in the Indulgent Mother mode speaking to the brats to ( da-da-dah! ) FINANCE CHAIR LADY with her magic handbag and red pen irritate the **** out of me.
