I would love to provide the whole thread here but in the interest of saving space I will just give you the link to get you to the thread ... Scranton "Political" Times ... there is some crazy stuff going on there ... apparently a few Preteen children (and 11 and 12 year old) shot a paintball at a police officer and well Antisystemicmovements (who I suspect is Jim B. Davis faithful LoD'er) is saying that these children would have been let go if they were not black children ... I think this may be the first time I have seen some level headed thinking at DD ... I know you don't belive me ... but when you read the posts you will know what I mean ...
Partial Post written by Antisystemicmovements:
The problem I have is that when you use that same logic on someone who has full citizenship rights, who is fully white and fully human, like officer Mayer, this logic doesn't make sense, yet on the children with the paintball gun, for some reason, it makes perfect sense. Officer Mayer, unlike the children, is able to rehabilitate. The community is willing to take Officer Mayer back with open arms. After all, just because he dropped the bees on his wife one time doesn't necesserily mean that he will engage in police brutality or beat other women or be sympathetic to [certain] men in domestic abuse calls. But when an 11 year child shoots a cop with a paintball gun, we treat him as an ANIMAL that is bound for prison when he gets older.
In my opinion, if these children are ineed troubled and in need of help then it is not fair that they are made an example out of in the Times in support of Doherty's Weed and Seed project.
This guy cracks me up ... I did not read the article ... I was searching for it and I couldn't find it ... but from what I gather reading the other posts there was only a mention of where the incident took place and the age of the children ... no place did it say anything about race ... at least that's the conclusion I came to after reading the posts ... I think that Anti should get over the race thing ... I think he is the one that is a racist ... there is a word for that ... It escapes me right now ... but anyway ... I think that the children who did this should be punished ... if they get away with this now then they will not learn not to do this in the future ... the parents should also be fined for letting these children run around with a paintball gun ... they should be supervised when using these guns ... and I do have to agree with some of the DD posters (I know hard to believe) but if we don't put a stop and punish ... then they will continue until they seriously injure themselves or another ... think about tha Anti. If as you say they are troubled then as part of whatever their punishment is they should be sent to counseling ... and like the rest I wouldn't care if they were White, Black or Pink with purple polka dots ... they should be punished. Read all of the posts if you have time!

I read the article in theTimes. In my o-p-i-n-i-o-n, race did not even factor into the article. Then I read Jim's post - I say it this way, because as I read, I could see him postulating at the podium with every word. Then to be fair, I went back and read the article in the Times again and KNEW it was Davis's post - simply because the article did not insinuate race, it did not imply race, it did not whisper it by saying "children of color", it did not shout it by saying "black."
I have one question - how can there EVER be racial equality when men like Jim Davis keep playing the racial card when race is not an issue?
On one hand I think that there will always be some level of racial tension in human society, mainly because we human beings tend to like to be with people that are just like ourselves. That isn't racism in and of itself, but I think it can lead to it when taken to the extreme.
On the other, there clearly are people who rely on racism for a living...the professional race-baiters if you will. Mind you, I have no problem with people fighting against racism where they see it, but I do have a problem with people LOOKING for racism everywhere they see. These race-baiters come in all shapes, sizes and colors...from Jesse Jackson to David Duke. Where would either individual be if they didn't see racism (Jackson's white against black or Duke's black against white) everywhere they looked?
I guess it all boils down to attitude: I believe all people are good and are not racists unless they prove otherwise. Sadly, other people seem more content going the opposite way....and what a sad way to live.

posted across the hall - ::: Anti, don't blame the police officer or the system. This society is in a state of decline because of people like you, who fail to put responsibility where it belongs. These "children" aimed a weapon at a police officer and shot him for THE THRILL! Would you be so kind if they targetted you? They are lucky they didn't get shot. Who bought them the paint guns and who let them out of the house with the guns, without adult supervision? Stop this boo hoo mentality. :::
Well, then I am sure Jim would have called them little white bread boys who had too much privilege.
Wow, I just want city unions to not get sweetheart deals, antisystemicmovements wants citizens to be able to take shots at cops and not get punished.
Who's the anti-cop guy here?
Given the choice, I'll bet every cop in the city takes my deal over his. "Let's see, give up the manning clause or let people shoot at us, that's a tough one..."
