Ladies And Gentlemen...The New Doherty Three!

Judy Gatelli must be sitting at her kitchen table laughing hysterically at the way this turned out for Janet Evans, who is now simply politically adrift and rubber-stamping all of the mayor's mismanagement while either being absent or sending her loyal minions to the dais with feeble excuses and doomsday justifications.

I wonder when (if) the crowd will finally turn on her. If the "Legion of Doom" lets this behavior slide, they are just as hypocritical and lacking in credibility as those they used to crucify on a weekly basis.

Their choice was what?

Was that a quote from Judy Gatelli circa 2008? Complete capitulation because this was as much a political challenge as a financial/budgetary challenge. Failed on both counts.

Pat Rogan is now the successor to the old Janet Evans...a lone minority voice struggling against a bunch of adrift politicos who clearly don't know what the hell they are doing. And the unions dangling that $30 million award over the city aren't doing the city any favors.

This will come to a head next year when the voters sweep most, if not all, of these people into the dustbin.

Mr. Smith was reckless, irresponsible and grossly inappreciative of the value of money and assets. He spent money like water. He secretly borrowed against assets. Unknown to Mrs. Smith, who was obedient to frugal spending, careful not to overspend and believed their savings was still intact, Mr. Smith was on a warp speed mission to bankrupt the family at the local casino to the benefit if satiating his gambling addiction.

Gone was the savings.

Gone was the investments.

Gone was the mortgage and utility money.

No college for the Smith children.

The bank and a host of other creditors were at the door, dresssed in the typical wolf's clothing.

Faced with losing everything or refinancing the farm, Mrs. Smith signed on the dotted line. It was an embarrassing day for Mrs. Smith. It was just another day for Mr. Smith.

What could Mrs. Smith have done any differently once it was clear that Mr. Smith had abused his authority and nearly bankrupted the family?

Well...since Mrs. Smith was lying in traction near a table of open bills marked "unpaid" and "overdue" for the better part of three years, one would think she had a myriad of options, including but not limited to:

1. Cutting off Mr. Smith's funding completely until he either explained what he had done or decided to behave and put himself on a budget.

2. Locking Mr. Smith out of the house and freezing the checking accounts by not allowing Mr. Smith to run wild.

3. Telling Mr. Smith to get his act together or she would systematically terminate all of his useless farmhands sleeping on the job or stealing the milk from the cows.

Instead, Mrs. Smith went to all of her friends and blathered on and on and on and on about how abusive Mr. Smith was and how she was in charge and how things would be better because she knew better...when in reality, the only thing she knew was that she didn't understand the family farm business any more than her a-hole husband.

So instead of restructuring, where Mr. Smith would have to learn to live responsibily and within his means, Mrs. Smith has now forced the farm, and all those who depend on it for survival, into liquidation mode.

She has failed. Her tenure is over. There is a new "rubber stamp" majority for the mayor, and it is led, astonishingly, by Janet Evans, who seems to give "deer in the headlights" a whole new meaning.

She's lucky there's no recall provision in the state, because both she and Doherty would be packing their bags by November.

GC is on point.....too many times i've seen last one out, turn(shut)off the lights, but there is a too real sense of fatality here about the highest paid taxes in the state with no resolution in sight!!!!!!

Since when was council cc'd in on unpaid and overdue bills?

1. Cutting off Mr. Smith's funding completely until he either explained what he had done or decided to behave and put himself on a budget.

Cut off funding? As in no payday for cops, fireman and DPW? I don't think council can legally do that.

2. Locking Mr. Smith out of the house and freezing the checking accounts by not allowing Mr. Smith to run wild.

They did take a few checkbooks off him. See OECD accounts. Locking him out of where? He was never there to be locked out to begin with. Strong mayor form of government = allows Mr. Smith to run wild, as well as the Mr. Smith before that and the Mr. Smith before him.

3. Telling Mr. Smith to get his act together or she would systematically terminate all of his useless farmhands sleeping on the job or stealing the milk from the cows.

They did that. Gone are several department heads and down are the salaries of old.

Instead, Mrs. Smith went to all of her friends and blathered on and on and on and on about how abusive Mr. Smith was and how she was in charge and how things would be better because she knew better...when in reality, the only thing she knew was that she didn't understand the family farm business any more than her a-hole husband.

I doubt that there's anyone who understands the family farm business better than Mrs. Smith. The problem is clearly getting rid of Mr. Smith so Mrs. Smith can best apply her knowledge of running the farm.

So instead of restructuring, where Mr. Smith would have to learn to live responsibily and within his means, Mrs. Smith has now forced the farm, and all those who depend on it for survival, into liquidation mode.

Restructuring = what? The debt he ran up is the debt he ran up. It's too late to restructure absent a whallop to the tax base, and that's coming. The most incompetent, corrupt, ignorant, irresponsible and mindless person to ever occupy the office of mayor has given us exactly what his family knew he'd give us.

She has failed. Her tenure is over. There is a new "rubber stamp" majority for the mayor, and it is led, astonishingly, by Janet Evans, who seems to give "deer in the headlights" a whole new meaning.

Failed at what? She's statutorily confined to what she can do. She can run the city from her seat. She couldn't stop the appeals. She couldn't stop the conduct that led to the arbirtrations that led to appeals. She couldn't stop the award of contracts. She's a legislator, not an executive.

She's lucky there's no recall provision in the state, because both she and Doherty would be packing their bags by November.

They'll both be back, if she wants it.

Who was it that said, and I'm paraphrasing, "In many ways, a supermajority's power exceeds that of the mayor."?

Since when was council cc'd in on unpaid and overdue bills?

It is painfully obvious they always get caught by surprise. I don't buy it.

Cut off funding? As in no payday for cops, fireman and DPW? I don't think council can legally do that.

You've gone to the extreme, though I find it interesting that it always comes down to scare tactics. "Borrow $30 million or grandma will die in a fire." The emergency services personnel have to start making a better case for themselves--particularly the police, since they have the most dangerous jobs.

They did take a few checkbooks off him. See OECD accounts. Locking him out of where? He was never there to be locked out to begin with. Strong mayor form of government = allows Mr. Smith to run wild, as well as the Mr. Smith before that and the Mr. Smith before him.

Mr. Smith needed an office and a desk. Everything else should have been a negotiation.

I doubt that there's anyone who understands the family farm business better than Mrs. Smith. The problem is clearly getting rid of Mr. Smith so Mrs. Smith can best apply her knowledge of running the farm.

Mrs. Smith is more suited to a nursing care facility at this point. I wouldn't let her touch the remote control. She couldn't run a charity bingo at this point.

She just added $26 million to it. No ideas. No vision. No explanation. No appeal to the people to understand exactly what is coming. Because, I believe, she doesn't know what to do.

Failed at what? She's statutorily confined to what she can do. She can run the city from her seat. She couldn't stop the appeals. She couldn't stop the conduct that led to the arbirtrations that led to appeals. She couldn't stop the award of contracts. She's a legislator, not an executive.

Then her mouth wrote a lot of checks over the past decade that her ass can't cash.

They'll both be back, if she wants it.

Neither will ever win again. If he runs, he's delusional. If she runs, she's downright insane. Even if the voters like her personally, letting her run the budget for another four years is taxpayer-suicidal.

Example of knowledge of unpaid bills: A quick review of the Controller's Monthly Report just might make someone wonder why an account (Water Co./PAWC) budgeted at an average monthly expense of $37,917 has actually expended less than $1,000 in three months don't you think? And that's but one example.

Marie, we'd all like to be able to see that. Is that something you have and can get posted up. Something is very wrong with that picture, but everything is wrong with the "revitalize" downtown picture which now has more lease and for sale signs than ever.

Bring Judy back. At least she was entertaining.

Anti..., I'll try to scan it in later tonight and post it but no promises as yardwork in this heat may wear me down. I believe all the utilities are in the same boat.

Wow! Where were you guys/girls back when the roses petals covered the streets? You all might have been able to save a whole lot of vexing things/people, maybe even a lot of marriages! Pre-steam-town, there were some beautiful architectural structures and history now lost forever. Evie was nice though? No way to make that mall part of infrastructure and high speed? Nothing left to restore underground? City Steam?

Sorry if I'm butting in. I don't live in Scranton anymore, but I'd like to see it make a come back, and not by putting up fake fronts. I'm from the take the train to the city days, and that worked for me.

Glen your too young to remember that?

Anti, Here's the Page. If you are interested in more the Albright Library has a copy of all of the Reports in the Reference Section, second floor.

Well, I scanned it in but I don't know how to get it moved to here. I am unable to copy and paste it. If you know what I need to do, please let me know. Thanks!

Ok, you have me there, but that's in many ways, not every way and certain not in the way that would be most beneficial, as in having the authority to control all spending and slapping the shyt out of Roseanne Novembrino accordingly.

It is painfully obvious they always get caught by surprise. I don't buy it.

Everyone was caught by surprise on some financial disclosures, but even where they weren't they couldn't unwrite the checks he wrote. C'mon, give some credit where it's due. She gets what, $12,500 a year? No council person have ever rejected the political advantages of being on council like she has, and that's WITH husband that she has.

You've gone to the extreme, though I find it interesting that it always comes down to scare tactics. "Borrow $30 million or grandma will die in a fire." The emergency services personnel have to start making a better case for themselves--particularly the police, since they have the most dangerous jobs.

The bookends of the Gatelli council funneling the money into the Doherty machine and Novembrino paying whatever landed on her desk/performing no audits were the real emergencies that no one addressed who had the power to address it. See PEL. The fires that happened at grandmas house would happen no matter what budget was in place. People need to be their own first line of protection, grandma included. Fires aren't accidents, they're what happens when irresponsible people are put in responsible roles, much like politics.

Mr. Smith needed an office and a desk. Everything else should have been a negotiation.

With whom? Strong form mayor of government = if its in the account he can spend it. He spent $30K on office furniture on his first day on the job, btw. The answer was not putting the money in the account and we're way past that solution courtesy of the Gatelli council.

Mrs. Smith is more suited to a nursing care facility at this point. I wouldn't let her touch the remote control. She couldn't run a charity bingo at this point.

OK, let's take it from the top. We all learned a little about what powers a supermajority doesn't have, but at least she put it to the test. However, what council should do is this: Allocate sufficient funding for itself for the purpose of initiating any litigation necessary to prevent reckless spending and/or reckless management. At least put some money aside to file injunctions and stave off appeals. With no arrows, there's no need for a bow, or the indian for that matter. Solicitor at $40K a year for what? A pit bull without teeth is poodle.

She just added $26 million to it. No ideas. No vision. No explanation. No appeal to the people to understand exactly what is coming. Because, I believe, she doesn't know what to do.

That's unfairly stated. She and Mr. Joyce have methodically and efficiently presented the city's financial picture clearly and as they came to understand it. What's the mystery. Once it was obvious that Mr. Smith had the farm surrounded by creditors it was either give them the farm or borrow to get rid of them. You'd do the same thing.

Then her mouth wrote a lot of checks over the past decade that her ass can't cash.

She has a nice ass. With an ass like that who cares if it cashes checks?

Neither will ever win again. If he runs, he's delusional. If she runs, she's downright insane. Even if the voters like her personally, letting her run the budget for another four years is taxpayer-suicidal.

Sure, he'd be delusional, but it's because she outed his entire financial rampage and its consequences. This supermajority is up against the mayor's dedicated cheerleader that won't give council the credit that it's due.

This is why it becomes easier and easier for the most corrupt people to get into politics and stay there. Good people are publicly hung just like the bad. It's pretty interesting that people who do nothing to help are the most critical of those trying.

I wonder want Dr Candypants thinks as Joe vigrously defends Janet?  Hmmmm....it's pretty clear that he has no problem replacing paramours when expedient, so the question is this:  when does it become expedient to drop Candypants?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for that David & Janet Evans divorce filing.  I suggest that Candypants does as well.

The Janet Evans of 2007 could just bitch, moan and blame the Mayor for every single problem in the known galaxy.  The Janet Evans of 2012 has to make, gulp, difficult decisions and help to govern.  Hell of a big difference.

As for Joe, he's a stooge...a tool...a second class liar...a two-bit, self-proclaimed prophet of NOTHING.  I'd call him a punchline to a joke, but some of the **** he has done over the years simply isn't funny.

Judge him in part by the company he keeps:  the likes of Les Spindler, Fay Franus and the (former) Dr Candypants...a woman who, quite possibly, shares with Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan a unique ability to pick out the lowest dregs of society in a crowd and immediately say "I want HIM!".  Yes, Joe Pilchesky is to local politics as "K-Fed" is to the entertainment industry.

Mark my words:  10 years from now, if someone in Scranton were to mention the name "Joe Pilchesky", the immediate response will be "who?".  For a guy with an egotistical reach that far exceeds his grasp, that's at least something of a payback.

I'm tired of "Mrs. Smith".  The Janet Evans of 2007 would have punched the Janet Evans of 2012 right in the face...assuming, of course, that it wasn't all a self-righteous act in the first place.  I'm not even taking odds on that.

I'm also tired of the family court thing.  I don't remember Chris Doherty having anything to do there.

A hundred thousand or more area residents have that very reaction NOW.
