From the "oldie but goodie" department.

Editor: The purpose of this letter is to rescind the multiple accusations and negative remarks I have made at Scranton City Council meetings regarding Daron Northeast. The statements I made were misleading, malicious and without merit.

Among the false allegations I made toward Daron Northeast were:

I stated that Daron was not in compliance and that it exploited loopholes to get the company up and running. Daron Northeast followed the proper guidelines to start its manufacturing operations in the city of Scranton and did nothing to exploit the city or the zoning officials. Daron submitted all the proper applications and received all the appropriate approvals to begin its operations in 2003.

I also stated that Daron Northeast violated local zoning ordinances 30-some times. I had and still have no basis for that accusation. To my knowledge, there is not one existing zoning ordinance being violated by Daron Northeast at this time.

I have accused the city administration of protecting Daron Northeast and lining its pockets as a result of that. I have no basis for that accusation whatsoever. Daron Northeast has followed all the proper channels and guidelines in establishing its business within the city limits.

My statements accusing Daron Northeast of causing long-term lung damage as a result of Darons operations and operating illegally polluting the environment and killing residents were made recklessly and without any merit. I have no reason to believe that these statements have any truth whatsoever.

For these reasons, I am hereby retracting the above statements that I have made about Daron Northeast.

DANIEL HUBBARD

SCRANTON

Editors note: Mr. Hubbard confirmed the submission of his letter is related to the settlement of a civil lawsuit brought against him by Daron Northeast.

The bigger issue is that Daron Northeast had the financial resources to drag Mr. Hubbard up, down, and through the court system and he did not.  So, does one fight and risk bankruptcy or does one eat crow and give in to bullying tactics?

That was a tactical error he will (should) not make again.  The trick is to ask questions without giving answers or opinions.  It seemed a little too coincidental that Daron vacated the area soon thereafter.  But now no one will ever know.

Dan's support from his fellow council speakers (and council members) was a tad underwhelming as well.  Probably because the unions had nothing to gain and Fay was under strict orders to shut the hell up.

Glenn, Hubbard suggested this place was KILLING people....all the money on either side was not going to protect him from those over the top statements.

I know personally that most, if not all, of the nonsense spewed over this company was bull4****. I frequently spent time in the area (yes very close proximity)  the people I visited were totally unaffected by the company. They had no idea what the fuss was all about and I witnessed nothing alarming either.

I believe the reason Daron left was Scranton (as usual) has the loudest minority voices that I have ever heard anywhere. Why stay here when other places with better tax structures are looking to welcome you into their communities and are pleased to have you stay with them. The very welcoming mob of goons ran another company out....then they b*tch that there are no jobs and no companies to pay taxes..... typical Scrantonianstyle! The ol'e "Kill your parents then throw yourself on the mercy of the courts because you an orphan" mentality.

By the way, since you mentioned it....why would Fay be muzzled....Was Missy Jan a fan of Daron or playing both sides as usual?

Hubbard's mistake was to appear at Scranton City Council to complain instead of doing the intelligent thing and contacting a civil attorney.

I had an in-law who lived in very close proximity to Daron Northeast.  If I visited in the summer, I often found my once clean car covered in a heavy coating of dust.  The dust made fine scratches in the paint if you touched it, like an abrasive.  The same dust covered the porch, the railings, and even the foiliage of plants.   The in-law was moved to a care facility and died from heart problems, but developed some breathing problems too.  I wondered about the relationship of living next to a plant that produced such heavy airborne abrasive dust and the breathing problems.

I once called Daron about the dust on my car, and they actually denied producing it, even as I watched the cloud blow from their yard.  I believed Hubbard, but I don't think a shoot from the hip hot-head is not the right person to champion a cause.

I absolutely know that Daron was not a good neighbor, was probably not good for the environment and probably did more than its share of legal bullying when it came to its critics.  All well and good, as I didn't live their so I had no dog in that fight.  Hubbard, however, thought that he could just march in, slander this people and then just walk away with nothing more than "atta-boy" and pats on the back.  Now where did he get that insane idea?  You know the idea that you can slander someone (be it a person or a corporation) without consequence?  Why his Svengali Joe Pilchesky!

Yes, Dan was intent on becoming "Pilchesky, v2.0".  Hell, Joe himself made comments to that point (I think there was some reference to the "birth of a new community activist" or some bull$hit like that).  The problem with that?  Dan isn't Joe Pilchesky.  Now I think Joe Pilchesky is nothing more than a aged bully, one who can no longer physically intimidate people, so he now uses the Internet and the court system.  But Joe Pilchesky also doesn't give a crap about who sues him.  What does he have to lose?  The only family he has seems to be a wife who is most likely going to vacation in the State Correctional System any week/month now.  This is the same man who has bragged about not paying taxes.

Danny-boy thought actually had stuff to lose.  All the more reason not to be a frucking idiot and slander a corporation in a public venue.  Oh, and not be so stupid as to emulate someone (Joe Pilchesky) who actually isn't worth looking at, let alone try to be like.

Sorry Dan, but this letter is going to be re-appear time and time again.  Why?  If for no other reason than to remind one and all that...

...sometimes your reach shouldn't exceed your grasp
AND
...be careful about who you want to be like in this world.

Cost of a copy of the Scranton Times?  $0.75.  Cost of public humiliation?  Priceless!
