I am not watching the meeting but According to Mr. Joyce they are cutting taxes tonight ... Property Taxes and the Mercantile Tax.

so basically the public gets less than 24 hours to review this budget beofre it gets voted on by the super duper majority.......lets (just for fun) imagine if the council under Gatelli had presented a budget and then voted on it in 24 hours.  Think that would have gone over well????

Does anyone think this budget can really pass?  Forget the obligatory Veto by Chris Doherty and then the Council override, I mean the scrutiny by PEL who has historically taken Chris Doherty's side on every issue.

If somehow it does pass and gets implemented, does anyone think it can work?  What happens if they run out of money because of lack of funding; for example with DPW overtime?   Do workers get payless paydays?

I for one have quite a few questions about the proposed revnue sources.

I am blessed and grateful to be able to say I do not get the konsil meedins....I am on satellite.  So I never have to listen to Miss Clairol.

this "proposed" budget may work until the imaginary revenue streams don't bring in the money they imagine. at that time, the options will be payless pay days or layoffs. since the city is self-insured and that line item was reduced ridiculously, the layoffs don't seem to be feasible, therefore, the payless pay day route would be chosen.
the revenue from the new parking system is crazy. Reading tried this system and it didn't work. They're getting rid of it. Also, there is nothing on the expense side of the budget to install this system and pay the monthly monitoring fees to collect the parking money. oh and remember, most of the citation issuers were removed from council's budget. so in thinking just of this ONE instance of revenue, there is no money to install it, no money to monitor it, but we're going to collect over $300,000 from it. when would this happen?
have fun super duper majority, the voters are going to be looking for you when there's no money.
funny also is that three members of the majority were out congratulating themselves at a west side bar on tuesday night last. doesn't that constitute a meedin'?

This budget sound good on paper, but we will see over the next year if it actually works. I watched the replay of the meeting the other night; Evans and Rogan listed all the campaign promises that they have kept, if the budget holds up kudos to them.
One promise that they did not keep was the promise to meet every week. Evans bashed Judy, Sherry, and Bob every week about missed meetings, and now when Evans is calling the shots they cancel August meetings AND three more at the end of the year. Evans has missed more meetings this year than Judy Gatelli did when all of the Doomers were bashing Gatelli. I think the doomers were right to attack Gatelli when she missed meetings and canceled meetings; they should also criticize Evans for doing the same thing. During the August recess I sent all five members emails asking why they meetings were cancled. Rogan was the only one who even replied saying he was against it. The others didn't even reply to me.
After one year of this so called supermajority all i see is Joyce, and Loscombe goosestepping behind Evans week after week giving no thought to the issues infront of them. Loscobme has been doing a very good job making himself available to the residents of the city, but a independent thinker he is not.

You are quite right when you say that time will tell if this budget will hold water. And I have to agree with you on the meeting issue ... it bothers the hell out of me that Janet Evans crucified the last council majority over this very issue and here she is doing the very thing that she thought was so wrong just a year ago ... makes one wonder.

Such a hypocrite she is. Rogan seems to be the one that has a chance of being a free thinker ... There may be hope for that one ... the others are just worshiping at Jan's alter. No free thought one either one's part.
