I was just wondering ... I have noticed when watching the last few council meeting that Mr. Rogan seems intent on doing away with the DPW .... he wants to privatize it.
In the meeting with PEL he specifically asked if it would be possible and what the benefits of doing this would be for the city. He was told that it would not be very beneficial and would more likely end up costing the city more to contract out all of the services than it does for the city to provide them.
I am just wondering what his beef is with the DPW? hmmmmm ... should be interesting to see if he proposes this for the 2011 budget. And why was there no representative from the DPW present at the caucus with PEL .... Ozzie Quinn what there, Police and Fire were represented ... and there was a woman there who quite possibly was representing Clerical ... but no DPW .... very interesting.

LOL but Lussssss aren't they all doooobies they deserve it ...right?? lol lol
The super-majority has turned into a super-cluster you know what and a huge failure ..... because they have allowed themselves to be co-opted by the likes of Davey boy, the spawn of Davey Boy and the goons instead of just doing what is right and makes sense for the city.... Chris Kelly nailed it again in this op-ed piece.
I think your right and so it has been moved to the open forum.

Now there is a thread on DD that discusses outsourcing the Inspections office ... and cutting the workforce of the DPW by 20 workers.
The kids across the hall think that Privatizing the DPW is the way to go ... and factual Marie says that they did it in Northern VA so we can do it here.
Outsourcing will cost the tax payers even more money. It doesn't work out cost wise, in that it will be more expensive by doing so. The state PennDot office just last week stated that, it is cheaper to have the employees do the work on the roads than outsourcing. There you go, Scranton is 20 years behind along with being a day late and a $ short.
Top of the Mountain: That is not necessarily true. When I lived in Northern Virginia we had private trash pick up. I payed less than the Scranton fee and had trash pickup twice a week and all (paper and cans/glass/etc.)recyclables picked up weekly.
Ok factual Marie ... Who will clean up fallen trees from the roads? Who will repair potholes? Who will help with disaster relief when it is needed? Privatize and who will make necessary repairs to Police and Fire Equipment? Hmmmmm .... Who will plow and salt your roads in snow and ice storms?... who will do a lot of the things that you have left off of your list? Sure you can get someone to come out and pick up your garbage and your recycling ... and it probably will end up costing less than your fee ... if that were all your fee were paying for.
All of these services cost money Sweet Factual Marie ... so tell me how do you propose the city of Scranton pay for all of the other things that the DPW does? I want to know .... really I do.

I have been looking on the internet for what people charge for plowing snow and the cheapest I have found is 81.50 per hour ... that's a lot of money Marie ... and that's only for plowing snow ...the pricing varies sweet Marie ... it they have to go around vehicles it costs more ... hmmmmm ... now what does the average DPW worker make per hour around $16.00 ... if they plow during their regular shift then we pay $16.00 per hour ... if it's overtime then we pay $24.00 per hour ... hmmmmmm ... so is it still fiscally responsible to privatize ... when we consider the cost of just one of the services provided? Wow ... that could prove quite costly as the DPW works all night ... and figure that $81.50 per hour is per truck that we hire not just a flat $81.50 per hour ... ouch quit costly when you think about it!

Factual Marie....strikes again....hey factual Marie got any comments about Joeyboy and Edith not paying their taxes....You all had a mouthful to say over Ken Smith how about a few words for your bald boy and his jailbird wife?

1. Any sort of privatization would be done under a blanket contract. If a private company offers to perform the same services as the DPW in toto, the numbers should be compared for the possibility of further action. But the devil is always in the details.
2. Ken Smith is an elected official. "Joe and Edith" are not.

Agreed

You can't be suggesting that if you are a not a public official you don't need to pay your taxes so I have to assume you are being intentionally obtuse again. Glenn ...these aren't some anonymous individuals that Lus has pulled out of thin air. These two have placed themselves in the public eye.... they are "public figures".... "the "saviors of the city" ....self appointed "watchdogs"....right? Don't you think it would be smart to remove the beam from their own eye if they intend to point out the sliver in other's eye? <snicker> You used "Edith" lol nice! Now for your next exercise try typing Joeyboy or Baldy.... come on it's fun lol

Glenn you couldn't get a company to commit to everything that the DPW does. I would imagine that a private company would not only have the city of Scranton as a Client ... and for the square miles of the city you won't find these services lumped together for a low low price. If you can get a company that is capable of doing it all.
And Joe and Edith have taken so many to task for not paying their taxes ... that when they are guilty of what the accuse other of it should be pointed out ... this is PILCHESKY DECEIT afterall ... silly me ... he makes people think he does not rip off old people ... oh well he doesn't it's his wife ... although she accuses others of this also ... and they are always calling people on the carpet for not paying taxes .... and I don't recall mentioning Ken Smiths name. There were some other names on there but I left them alone because they are not public servants and people who claim to be the saviors of the city of Scranton. Don't like that I put that up ... I say sorry ... to you ... but not to them they deserve to have it put up.

Oh Ok ... Sorry Glenn ... but I still think that Pilchesky put he and his wife in the spotlight ... and they call out anyone that they think may be a "Crony" ... even if they aren't ... so what is that old saying .... "Don't dish it out if you can't take it"
