That is a very interesting thread to say the least. I have not really been paying attention to this particular topi, nor have I been watching council meetings or any other meetings lately. I have to say this though Glenn gets a thumbs up from me for standing his ground on this subject (not that it means much) .... Joe Pilchesky just does not want to see Mrs. Evans for what she is ... she more likely than not just brought an FBI investigation upon herself and her supermajority members ... extortion .... now that is corruption at its finest. This should prove very interesting.

I imagine that the hefty "plop" of the delivery of today's Sunday Times was followed by a blood-curdling shriek that was heard through Green Ridge into Dunmore (& perhaps beyond). Good thing Chris Kelly lives beyond the legal jurisdiction of Queen Janet & her minions. Of course, I also have no doubt that said minions are already at work jamming Chris' e-mail & the paper's website w/their less than adept defenses of their monarch. Maybe Dave will join the fray w/an invective & profanity laden e-mail or two calling for the head of Kelly & a few Lynetts. I await the amusing backlash.

No WAY!! They don't read the Scranton Times right??? I mean that's what they claim all the time.... right??? LOL LOL OL
I found this to be quite humorous yet quite disturbing at the same time ... because it seems that she does not think that she has done anything wrong ... it may not of been intentional (yeah right) but ignorrance is no excuse for breaking the law ... if you think it might be the wrong thing to do ... you probably shouldn't do it. Is this not the same behavior she has accused other (past) council members of ... but since it's her ... well damn the rules and the laws of the land .... Off with their heads if they do not agree with her!

lol Miss Clairol is now saying the UofS said it....not her lol....is she professional or what??!!
It wasn't me mom it was THEMMMMMM ........
Uh?? Missy Jan??....you are on the record dear with what you said...did you forget about that pesky little thing known as the "official record" lol lol
Anyone see the council meeting last night? Well apparently it was through no fault of Janet and the Supermajority that the issue of money was brought into the negotiations for the ariel easment ... Father Pilarz is the one who brought it up according to Jan, Lascombe and Boyd Huges ... so that is the only reason they broached the subject at all.
Now how many people believe that .... I know I don't ... they are just trying to squirm out of the extortion claim the the U of S has against them. Didn't Jan state at a televised meeting that if they would not pay then they would not get the easement. I'm just saying that it's really easy for her to turn around and make claim that Pilarz offered money first ... who does he have that was there to back him up ... I don't trust Jan, Loscome or Boyd Hughes as far as I could throw them ... and that's not very far.
Admit that you were wrong Jan ... I don't think you actually knew that you were attempting to extort money from them ... and I think most people agree that they should pay more ... myself included ... but really you cannot sell easements ... there is a law against that ... but I just think you were too stupid to know about it ... your solicitor surely should have advised you on that one.
And how about the maps and charts that came out ... wow

Uh ohhhhh Steve Corbett is kicking Miss Clairol's little butt over this issue today lol lol.
Hummm if he is married she may be able to....change the subject in a manner of speaking...but I am not sure if he is...I don't think she is so good at changing the subject with the single ones... <sigh>what's a blond girl to do?? :)
I have never listened to Corbetts show. But I do wish I heard that.

I have been sitting here thinking and thinking ... and well this is the thought that has occurred to me. Ok even if it were Father Pilarz who offered to $175,000 for the easement and Janet never did ask and then what happened she said nope ... $250,000 will get you that easement ... and he said ... nop ... $175,000 ... and lets say that she accepted it ... then that would be accepting a bribe wouldn't it? Still against the law ... even if that bribe is not going into her pocket ... it's still a bribe to get what they want ... and isn't that what she herself has accused every other politician in this town of doing ... but I guess that she just does not see nor do her loyal little doomers ... but if you take a peek across the hall there are a few who realize that she has made a huge political blunder. And lets not forget she didn't do this alone she had Mr. Loscombe and Atty. Hughes right there with her.
Remember Mr. Loscombe at election time. If he starts out in the first few months of office taking the path to extortion and bribery ... well then at the end of his term what path will he have chosen? It will not be a good one ... 6 months in he is suing the city for the pension that he knew he would not be able to collect while on council and now this ... what is next for this council superstar?

I read both articles today one on the "misunderstanding<cough cough exhortion cough cough>with the UoS and the other on the SAPA planning. I have to say I thought she would suck as the head of council in as much as she would just be grandstanding all the time, but I had no idea she would really be this bad and stupid....WOW she really is bad!! I ask you... can you even imagine how bad she would be as Mayor?? lol lol lol
Now come on IHave you don't think she would make a good Mayor ... and you really think she sucks at what she is doing now ... you know what I knew she would suck ... and I knew she would suck really bad ... my expectations have been met. I am sure that she would meet my expectations of her as the Mayor as well ... because I know she will suck more than any other Mayor has ever sucked. And when I say that I don't mean her activities ... I am simply using it as slang. I won't go any further with that ... because it would be oh so DD of me.

Every time I channel surf and get near channel 19, I break out into a cold sweat. The chills just wrack my body and my thumb quivers over the " ^ " button. This time I stopped @ 19, I listened for a few minutes, and I laughed when I realized what kind of a performance she was putting on for the masses.
Judy Gatelli and Bob McGoff always spoke from the heart, maybe with a note or two for guidance, but spoke TO the people in the audience. And they said what they had to say (usually) in 500 words or less. Miss Clairol read from her pages, gestured with her hands when the script told her to, looked up occasionally and spoke AT whoever she thought might be listening ... all the while saying nothing with a bunch of five dollar words.
All she did was read a written word and point a finger. It's all she's ever done.
And I have to ask ... Janet, when you went to the beauty parlor this week, did you take the "Archbald Pothole" cartoon from The Times and tell the hairdresser, "Make me look like this" ? Or were you sporting a wig from the Tammy Faye Bakker collection? Sheesh, no wonder I couldn't find any Aqua net on the shelves.
Whats this??? If the below referenced post which was up at DD had the name of Doherty in it the goons would be all over it! It has the name Tomko though!! Do we know anyone with that name I ask you???
SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. - A corrections officer for the county's juvenile detention center was charged with harassment after he allegedly made several phone calls to a Clarks Summit woman.
South Abington police Patrolman Thomas Kreidler filed the charge against Ronald J. Tomko Jr., 46, of Dunmore, after the alleged victim reported receiving several anonymous phone calls. In some, the caller asked for her by name and then made lewd comments, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Patrolman Kreidler traced the calls to Mr. Tomko, who denied making them. Mr. Tomko declined to comment on the charge Monday.
County Chief of Staff Maria Elkins also had no comment on the charge

What's she going to do, sue herself? It's her own inflated ego that's putting her in this position, no one else. Calling a megalomaniac a megalomaniac isn't defamation.
"The great enemy of clear language is insincerity. When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish squirting out ink."
Now here is a DD poster who actually sat down and put some thought into how to generate a fair way of making the Non Profits contribute to the city coffers.
Hardcore I applaud you ... most of the time the kids across the hall do not offer a solution ... and they never offer a solution that would solve the entire problem ... but as I see it Hardcore has hit it the nail right on the head with this idea.
I couldn't agree with Glenn more. Instead of putting forth their own agenda and plan for the direction of the city, Council has adopted a stance of being "anti Doherty". They don't stand for anything themselves, they just stand against Doherty and his agenda. Perhaps they are taking up the Tea Party's mantra.
This ridiculous squabble over PILOT contributions will get them nowhere. If you can't win with the current rules, CHANGE THE RULES.
U of S (and many others) are tax exempt? Then forget fighting the exemptions, create a crafty way to tax who they can, I'm quite sure the city could adopt something, not called a tax, but a City Services fee. Students would be required to pay a yearly fee of say, $100.00, to cover the cost of city services, such as fire and police protection. (Pilarz' own estimate of the U of S students is 5000. 5000 students at $100.00 apiece equals $500,000.00. at that price, they can shove their pilot contribution.
The fee applies to every post secondary student in the City, so it includes those who have skated away without any PILOT so far. How many Marywood studenst are there? How about Johnson College, and of course Lackawanna? The Commonwealth Medical college too.
I'm certain an argument could be made that students don't use city services. They don't need fire and police protection, the institutions do. Well, they sure as heck drive on our roads, and leave garbage all over the Hill Section every Spring. DPW doesn't work for free.
Hey if they really want to get crafty, they could do the same thing with hospital pateinets, on a smaller scale. How about a $1.00 a day fee? Think of the thousands of patients at hospitals every day. A single dollar could add up very quickly.
Just a few suggestions, but worth exploring. Stop fighting a fight for vanity's sake, that you will ultimately lose. Paper doesn't refuse ink. If the supermajority doesn't start acting instead of wasting time talking, they will be swept out in no time, having achieved nothing more than Gatelli and Fanucci.....
My personal opinion is that this is a great idea .... and I think that the Supermajority should be made aware of this idea and they should seriously consider it as it will fairly obtain contributions from all Non Profits and not just keep slamming on one!

Hold on here ... did a DD poster actually make some sense of the matter?
Well cudos are in order, and the plan is a pretty good one with reference to the institutions of higher learning. However, I don't agree with additional hospital fees payable by patients. Primarily the patients are (a) local people who are already burdened by our high r/e taxes, (2) access card carriers who won't pay a cent anyway, (3) someone who has played by the rules and pays for health insurance, but STILL has to make $2000+ annual deductible payments (on top of their local taxes).
Can I ask what might seem to be a stupid question? Back when the Steamtown Mall was built, there was big to-do about a surcharge, payable to some municipal entity or other, for each space in the parking garage. This resulted in the mall not being able to charge people to park there. Good for me, bad for the mall. The hospitals can and do charge for parking. Are the hospital garages affected by this per space surcharge, or does that fall under their exemption? Is the city making any money off their garages in per space fees, even if it is not making any money for real estate taxes?
What I don't understand is why the non-profits feel they don't have to pay any stipend to the city. These administrators should get up off their mony grubbing arses and make an effort, for cripes sake.
I should have made it clear that I also do not agree with the hospital patients being charged another penny for hospital stays. I highlighted in red the part that I did agree with and that was the service fee for students attending institutions of higher learning in Scranton ... I do like the parking fee idea though ...
I was highly impressed that one of the dd posters actually came up with a solution ... this rarely if ever happens across the hall..

Both Sr. and Jr. were on defending the Queen's honor at the council meeting.
