"Overtme Whores" case still hasn't hit the court dockets - what's the hold up?

Unless the federal and state docketing system is not up to date, there has yet to be a complaint filed in the "Overtime Whores" scandal that made national news. That case involved two female police officers and one secretary. Why haven't they been filed? I was under the firm belief that the FOP's lawyer was going to step up to the plate and handle this. Perhaps not. But, why not?

Another case involving yet another female police officer was filed in federal court on March 15, 2009 at docket no. 03: CV-917. I'm going to get the docket sheet and review the records in that case to see what activity has been filed. Or, is that dead in the water, too?

There's no question that this would be a huge embarrassment for the mayor to face while out on the campaign trail for Auditor General. Can you imagine Chris Doherty as the Auditor General?  How he intends to pull that off remains to be seen, but it will be interesting watching him field questions from the media about his local history on blowing millions upon millions like a kid in a candy store.

Given the love affair this administration has with retaliation, I can't even begin to imagine what threats might have been made to keep that lawsuit from being filed. I'm shocked the FOP's lawyer filed the one in federal court.

My guess would be that the victims of the "Overtime Whores" scandal are being pushed around and abused to this day. Maybe even more than ever to keep that lawsuit from becoming fact. Once it hits the system you know, it does become public record. Can't have that, now can we?

Joe, mum is the word. The lid is on it. No one from either side is willing to say anything. The female officers involved have been targets of harrassment for so long I'm surprised they're still on the force. Plenty of 'sources' feel that the object is to force them out. Apparently the officers are not that easy to force out, they're still on the job. I hope they stay on the job forever as walking proof that not everyone can be pushed around by Elliot and Hayes.

There are plenty of lawsuits in the federal system for sexual harrassment and abuse.  Women sue their chauvinistic/sexual abuser bosses all the time for making inappropriate comments like that. To do it to female police officers makes it an even better case when it comes from a nitwit like Elliot.

If the lawsuit hasn't been filed by now it probably never will be. It's not something one has to think about. It happened. Unless you can't find a lawyer to handle it, what's the problem?

Head south to Philly, there's a jewish lawyer down there somewhere who will jump on it.

Union demands Scranton police chiefs ouster

BY JEREMY G. BURTON
STAFF WRITER
Published: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 5:08 AM EDT
Scranton police Chief David Elliott should resign or be fired, police union President Bob Martin said Monday at a news conference.

Sgt. Martins charge was joined by Les Neri, statewide president of the Fraternal Order of Police, who called the chiefs conduct repulsive.

Chief Elliott was suspended Thursday for a week without pay for disparaging remarks made last month toward two female officers. Mayor Chris Doherty said he has no intentions of further disciplining Chief Elliott, who must also attend sensitivity training.

Speaking at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center, Sgt. Martin called the citys punishment unacceptable. He characterized the department as outraged and said officers have lost faith in Chief Elliott.

Sgt. Martin said Chief Elliot has a history of discriminatory behavior toward women, conduct that has steadily escalated. He said there were previous grievances filed but could not cite specifics.

Public Safety Director Ray Hayes said he was unaware of any such grievances. Calls to confirm prior cases with the state Human Relations Commission and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission were not immediately returned.

Sgt. Martin said new complaints have been filed with both agencies.

We do not accept this as a one-time mistake or slip of the tongue, Sgt. Martin said.

In a press release, Mr. Neri said its shameful for city officials to think they can merely slap Chief Elliott on the wrist and expect this to all go away.

According to Sgt. Martin, heres what happened:

In April, Chief Elliott placed one of the female officers on a shift during a campaign stop by Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. He allegedly approached the woman and said, I thought you and Jane were my overtime whores. And now what? You want to be mommies and wives? Chief Elliott denied those comments, Mr. Doherty said.

Then, on July 7, when the two women entered Chief Elliotts office to sign up for foot patrols, he said, Here come my two whores now.

Mr. Hayes said he was told three versions of the incident.

He said the two female officers heard simply whores. Chief Elliott admitted to saying overtime whores, and other staffers in the room said the comment was comm-D whores, according to Mr. Hayes. Comm-D refers to community development patrols, which are currently filled by paying overtime.

When Mr. Doherty disclosed the disciplinary action last week, he said the remark was overtime whores. Sgt. Martin rejected that account today, saying it was a way to smooth over the gaffe.

Sgt. Martin questioned how Chief Elliott could effectively lead after this. Mr. Doherty and Mr. Hayes disagreed with notions that there is an unhealthy rift between the department and Chief Elliott.

This is the second time this year a Scranton public safety union has tried to oust its leadership. In February, the firefighters union voted no confidence in Fire Chief Tom Davis and asked the mayor to fire him. Mr. Doherty rejected the demand and stood by the chief.

It's my understanding that EEOC and HRC had reviewed these cases and gave them their blessing.  But, perhaps there's a hold up in that area.  Time will tell.

No woman, or any city officer, should be subjected to that kind of discriminatory conduct. The Chief is supposed to be setting examples of exemplary conduct, not be the cause of misconduct. Typical Doherty hire: Incompetent to the core.

Elliot keeps that up, he'll be qualified to replace McDowell at county controller.

Maybe Elliot is looking for Ray Hayes' job, and Martin is looking for Elliot's job. Give back any costs to the city in arbitrations and awards, and let the promos flow!!

Your guess is right on the money.  The city wants this to go away, as anyone would expect, but don't be too shocked to hear that the union isn't protecting the women like it should be. I can't say too much but I know a lot more.

Bob Martin is no knight in shinning armour here. The women feel alone and a little betrayed at this point.

That's as far as I can go.

Officer DeLorenzo vs Chief Elliot, Raymond Hayes, Scr. Police Dept and Mayor Doherty

This is the federal complaint I picked up yesterday.  It was filed electronically on May 14, 2009. Read it over and see what you think, then I'll chime in with my opinion.

It sounds like Officer DeLorenzo had a few whacky supervisors who liked picking on women.  Nothing I've not heard before where insecure men rule the territory. I wish her well in this endeavor and I praise her for taking a stand. It's not every woman that can do that having to continue to work among these kinds of inadequate men.

I'm wondering if there's any special reason that this lawsuit was not printed in the paper along with all the details of how disgusting this female officer was treated. The Times has no problem making a really big deal out of the cop who wouldn't come into work and he got fired for it. The shoe is on the other foot now and not one word. Welcome to Scranton.

I also wish her well.  It took a lot of courage to take this on and I hope the union is fully supporting her in every aspect possible.

I couldn't resist I had to resurrect this gem LOL LOL

Gary DiBileo will not likely fill Courtright's chair. Enough already of Gary DiBileo romancing Gary DiBileo. You hand the ball off to him and after running five yards he gets lost, unable to find his way downfield. I'm tired of that "He's a nice guy" stuff, too.

Fvck Gary Dibileo

The above was said by our own Joe P. How pathetic are you Joe? If nice guys finish last, as our election proves, I would way rather be on Gary's side than yours.

I've had my fill of Gary Dibileo. Totally.  This is Scranton, Lackawanna County, where nice guys shouldn't even consider running. It's the same as giving the election away. You don't take a pocket knife to a gun fight when thousand of people are placing their bets on you. That "I'm proud of running a clean campaign" loser speech makes me physically ill. Doherty is proud that he ran a dirty winning campaign.
The words "clean" and "dirty" aren't the operative words here, they're "winner" and "loser". We wanted a winner. If we want to hang out with a nice guy, that's what grandfathers are for.

You are pathetic and you are loyal to no one ....not even yourself and your wife. What will be next....A DiBileo love-child???? Judy is an alien???? Fanucci is a man????

Start your own forum. Put your real name on it. Post as yourself. Take down a few politicians via the court system. Challenge the sale of public parks at your own expense, among other things. Then, and only then, can you test my loyalty. Live it.

This site has become nothing less than the Enquirer.

Talk to John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and John Han****. They'll tell you what fee speech is. Talk to the families who buried a young dead soldier, just so you can condemn free speech as frivolous. They'll tell you what free speech costs. Anonymous free speech, as you enjoy, is what carved the constitution, in case you were unaware of that. It exposed plans to scuttle it, just as a lot of corruption is exposed and scuttled here predicated on facts supported with documents. If some rumors/innuendos get blended into that benefit, who gives a fvck?

You have lost any justifiable credibility on behalf of the tax-payers.

I never once claimed credibility. Here, I offer a canvass. You come here to paint on it. I ride heard on the painting to ensure there are not threats or things to attract libel suits. My wife and I went through a year long federal battle to fight for this canvass so other can paint on it. We've been the target of every government agency known to man. When would you like to switch places?

The fools that support your every word are mislead by you.

We fools just substantially contributed to changing the future of this city. Every city as corrupt as ours would love to be so mislead.

And yes...I know my account will be banned because I spoke against you...

Anyone banned here was banned for making threats and/or not complying with the purpose of the forum. Should you do that, you'll be banned. Not until. I believe I provide wide latitude for most posters.

a cowardice move on the part of the great warrior Joe P. No need to respond either.

I do what I do for the good of the little guys, all of them. I ask for nothing. Call me what you like. It won't change what I do or why I do it. Chet Harhut has publicly called me much worse than that and the Times printed it. I take it as a compliment.
