There's a  big difference between "don't like" and "did not vote for" (or the reverse)... 

I liked George W. Bush, but I did not vote for him.  Hell, I'd love to hang out with the guy.

While I don't know Sherry personally, I know folks who do and from what I hear she is a very likeable person...just not well suited for political office.

She mayber a "nice person to hang out with"...however EVERY week she continues to ramble on about How she is there to do "the Mayor's work" and "people really need to get a lif" and other nonsense.....
LOOK I know you are there to "stamp away" (as she stated) so just do your job and get over it..
I agree I know people who know her and she is a nice person...but she is not different than the speakers at this point, actually she is getting worse.

I do not watch the meetings so unless someone is specific about a council event I have no idea what they are referencing.

Engaging the loons is always a mistake.  The best course of action is to just nod your head every once in a while, thank speakers for coming to the podium and move on.  It's like dealing with a child having a temper tantrum.

Great person?  I don't know her personally, but I know of her work at Scranton High.  Kids love to get into her class, as they don't do anything.  I've heard first-hand accounts of her regularly leaving the classroom to talk on her cell...probably putting something "in the wind" for Pilchesky.

Regarding her other profession, that of being a professional politician, Ms Evans never seems to miss a pander opportunity.  She also seems to think that "standing on principle" is something you do for convenience sake...the KOZ votes were a classic example.  She damn well knew that some of the projects deserved the tax break, but she also knew that she could vote no across the board...to pander to her Doomer cronies...and it wouldn't do any harm related to the overall Council votes.

As I've said many times before, Janet Evans is a CLASSIC EXAMPLE of a Scranton politician, right down to the union glad-handing.

I'm one of those people who has known Janet for a long time.  When I moved back to the area I was surprised to see she was on the School Board.  Not surprised that she ran, she's always had illusions of power, just surprised that people voted for her.  Then I realized that she's good at putting up a front.  I almost gagged when I saw the happy family campaign pictures w/her father & Dave.  (Her father despised Dave.)
Then there's the question of her permanent teaching job.  Not only did she lie on her original application, but I wondered when she became certified to teach anything but English & Reading (her MA is Reading Specialist.)  Then I heard the rumors.......oh well, she's at it again.
Nw she gets to be on TV.  Her minions flock to her like seagulls to trash.  And suddenly, Dave is a pillar of the community.  It's Bizarro World.

Two thoughts...

  1. Getting votes does not mean you are popular.  For example, assume that, of Scranton's entire population of say 60,000, there are 25,000 registered voters.  Of those 25,000 say 60% actually vote.  That brings us to 15,000.  Of that 15,000, about 63% actually voted for Janet Evans.  That's roughly 9,500 (slightly higher than I think her actual total was see this link ).  So do the math...in a city of 60,000, 9,500 voted for the lady...about 16%.  Of that 16%, I am sure there were more than a few "hold the nose and vote" types.  Does getting 16% mean that someone is "liked"?
  2. A vocal minority touting her doens't make her popular.  Even within DD there are occasionally post that slip through commenting on her very dubious selection for a full-time teaching position, although people have been routinely banned at DD for even questioning Ms Evans.

Seriously Doomers, you are a Marketers dream, as you seem to be believing all that is thrown your way.  Ask yourself this:  during the course of her tenure on city konsil, what has Janet Evans actually accomplished?

There's no comparison. She ran in the race for council, where I will admit she exudes a commanding presence, mainly due to her long-winded monologues.

If she ran in the mayoral race, she would never have gotten that many votes. Maybe if she actually left her comfort zone for five minutes and actually made the effort to run in the mayoral race, we would all see just where she stands with "the people". We all saw how that worked out for her in the Rep race and I don't think she'll allow herself to be put in the 'second rate' category again.

Doomers ... you know what ... you are right I do not like her ... I have known her for a long time now. I did not like her as a School Director ... I do not like working with her ... I don't like her plain and simple ... and I did not vote for her.

I would take Sherry Fanucci over her any day ... but my question to you is this ... why pick on Sherry constantly ... she's going ... you don't like her attitude ... and I understand that ... but she's been picked on ... called names since the day she took her seat on the dias ... why would she be nice? I don't know may who could be ... in that same situation she has been in for almost 4 years now.

She at least is a genuine person when you meet her ... I can't say the same for Janet Evans.

I had a little chuckle at this.  I can answer in Janet's own words--"If I divorced him, people would talk."

The 1st time I heard this I could barely contain the coffee that tried to choke up through my nose.  After the 3rd time, I simply wrote it off as Janet having a peculiar concept of propriety & social expectations.  It's a long, ridiculous story.  One which makes me wonder what in hell she's doing in a position of authority.

BTW, has anyone seen the suggestions across the hall that she might be well suited to replace Mellow?  (There are certain elements of Bobby's life which might well parallel hers.  Hmmmmm.)

-If she ran for mayor against Chrissy...um accoeding to the numbers she would have gotten the majority of Dibileo votes and YES would have destroyed our beloved mayor.

-I am not "picking" on Fanny...she is gone period...I just said her attitude is gross and she didn't get it yet.

- What has Janet accomplished? I ahve to agree nothing,,,however how can you when you have a total different perspective than the mayor and his followers. What will the mayor accomplish come Jan...nothing for the same reason.

- I can careless about Janet, Judy, Sheri or anyone personal life....I am telling you...in my opinion...Sherry doesn;t get it...and Evans destroyed everyone in this election...and I will say it again if she ran for mayor it would be a different result..... IF Doherty moves on...or desides to destroy this city for four more years and runs against her....I will bet you my next paycheck she wins....

Do I personally like her....it is not about that it is who is better at there job....and I think the mayor and his followers are terrible.....

The reason?  She's a politician--will say anything to anyone to get elected.  Doesn't mean that she means anything she says.  Politicians pander, especially to the LCD.  Yes, our Janet is the queen of pandering.  She can make any of the "people" believe she is for them.  But like all politicians, she's only for herself.

not really.....Doherty never pretends to not be a politicain.....unlike MissyJan who plays as if she ever so far above those lowbrow mortals she is forced to co-exist with....she is afterall much much better than they... not to mention purer of heart.....really??? Again if you want to know what a phoney she really is ask someone who knows her.  She screwed over her own father for god's sake, when she hired herself as a teacher in the district while on the school board....He was mortified as he campaigned hard for her....she made an ass of him in front of all the people who respected him and voted for her on his word that she wouldn't be a "politician".  She even mentioned how upset he was the night she took the position and resigned form the board, but did that stop her??? Not so much!!

Doomers...I see two VERY BIG differences:

1.  Doherty has actually accomplished some things (you may not like them, but they are there)
2.  Doherty doesn't pander to the likes of Joe Pilchesky

Chris Doherty does not even pretend to know that Pilchesky exists ... hence the reason that Chris Doherty gets so far underneath Pilchesky's skin.

Janet is a politician ... yes she is ... a seasoned on at that. Sherry Fanucci is a person ... she's not good at pretending to be something she is not ... she is very genuine and she is ... as much as you won't like what I am about to tell you doomers ... very honest ... yes that's right ... she is honest in the fact that she is not going to do something that comprimises what she believes in ... she is going to do what the people who elected her wanted her to do ... which is work with the Mayor ... plain and simple ... how do I know this ... well I am one who voted for her then and in the last election ... to do exactly what she is doing ... make Scranton a better place. Others did not agree with those who supported Sherry and well she lost ... it happens. Nobody is going to curl up in a ball and die ... but instead of the LoD contantly baiting her week after week ... calling her names ... why not for once show her a bit of respect and maybe she will in turn show them respect back. Respect is earned ... they don't get respect just because they are voters and taxpayers ... If I talk with someone I always show respect even when I don't agree ... there can be civil disagreements you know.
