First thing on her agenda will be to get a throne for herself at center stage. Next, she'll need to borrow the crowned jewels from Dave. Then she'll contact the tv people to buy a stationary camera to be used STRICTY to film her and to have them invest in 6 to 7 hour tapes instead of the 2 to 3 hour tapes normally used to tape council.

2010 may very well be one of the most productive years in the history of Scranton for both the mayor and the council. The mayor can continue doing what he does best (the professional face of a city trying to turn itself around) and the council can step up to the plate and begin the repair work necessary to fix the budget and take the blank checks away from the mayor.
I bet that Chris Doherty would tell you that he is thrilled with the primary results. I know I am. The "Legion of Doom" no longer serves any purpose at the meetings, and everybody can get down to business with a proper system of checks and balances.
Glen, you're hallucinating if you think that the next 4 years will be any different from the last 4. Barring any unforseen consequences, Doherty will still be Mayor. He'll have a Council majority opposed to anything he's in favor of, how can this be progress? Joey & co will still be in the cheap seats, whining & Janet will be s l o w l y elaborating on her plan to become goddess of Scranton.
You disagree? Did you by any chance follow her when she was in the majority (for a very short time) on the school board? She had the oportunity to do good things...did she?? Not exactly! In addition to being the most condesending person I have seen in a long while she also was one of my favorite kinds of politician. Vote yes for all kinds of new stuff and programs but vote no to an increase in taxes. In other words act like you have a magic credit card. the kind that allows you to spend but not pay.....ya Glen this going to be great!
Wait until January? No way -- Productive ? No frikking way -- This dame is going to come out bangin' and swangin' this coming Tuesday. She is going to sweep into chambers and lord it over the rest of council, making sure they know their days are numbered. And I could guarantee she'll make some snide-ass comments about her self-imposed superiority.
The Majority of council in January will appoint Gary Dibileo to Bill Courtright's seat than they will have a super majority. And my Perdicition is when Janet Evans retires from the school district she will run for mayor. She in her last two elections for city council recieved more votes than the Mayor . There is no doubt she will beat anyone in this city for Mayor.Then Scranton will be a better place to live. And be a more fair place to work and live.
You also might want to add to your "Perdicition" that the Scranton real estate market will be overloaded with the homes of people abandoning ship if the time comes when she sits at the Mayor's desk.
I'll be one of the first to bail out and put my house on the market.
I would take Janet over Maror crookerdy anyday/////face it...obviously people agree...she can't hold a candle to the mayor. COME January the fat will start to leave city hall........I would like to ave seen Gary win, HOWEVER I LOVE that this mayor will be able to do nothing for this city....and better yet Gary can slap him in the face weekly.........ahhh what a nice January it will be. eed to spend 700,000k to win a Primary????????????
Here is just a thought ... we are all assuming that there will be an appointment by Janet ... however there are two full years left to Bill's term ... there should be a special election and the people of Scranton should be the ones to choose who will sit in that seat.
Since there is a General Election coming in November there should be an election by the people to make the choice. Isn't that how Janet got on to Council?

If a councilman or woman resign before term is up the council votes on the replacement, this is what happened when Mr Mc Goff got on the council the council had a tie 2and 2 and the mayor came in and gave the tie breaker. Than Mr Mc Goff ran for election and won a 4 year term. If Bill Courtright resigns from council in January because he wins tax collector. The Majority of council picks his replacement. The conduct interviews and they pick if it is a tie than and only then the mayor votes to break the tie. This time it will not be a tie the council will pick the replacement.
Glenn my old friend. A little bird that lives in my attic told me that the apppointment will win a full term in 2011 hands down and a young Irish/Luth woman is already being groomed to take out Mr. McGoff. As my girl peewee says. "Can't make this $hit up"

Janet was elected not appointed ... because she was filling a vacancy left when Brian Reap stepped down. There were two years left to his term and she was elected to fill the remainder of those two years ... so yes Glenn it can be done as Janet Evans first run for council is evidence of that.

Janet had to run in 2003 because a two-year "unexpired term" seat was open. This was because a vacancy had occurred with three years remaining and there was a municipal election available for the special.
I congratulate Janet Evans on her sounding victory, however she better be very careful about appointing Gary to the vacant seat. He might come back to haunt her, she might want to appoint someone she can control. Just a little thought.

Doomers ... I don't care how many more votes than Doherty she did or did not get ... the point to make here is Gary was the one who needed to beat him and he didn't do it ... Janet did not run against him for Mayor ... and are you really sure that the Mayor is going to run for higher office ... remember all of you kids from across the hall told us he was going to Harrisburg ... what was that ... over 2 years ago ... didn't happen and I am not so sure that he will be running for higher office ... he may ... but if it would mean that Jan was Mayor ... then I don't think he would just hand it to her ... I could be wrong ... but you guys have been wrong so many times about his movements before why should we believe you this time.
