So far it is a barn burner by the numbers on Scranton Times for Mayorial race. Sadly it is a huge blow out for council. It looks like we will have 4 years of the inmates running the asylum again at Konsil meetings. UGHHHHH
Update Doherty Wins Gary concedes...according to the Times.

If Doherty wins re-election & Courtright gets the Tax seat, Janet will not get her "super majority" on Konsil, as Doherty will be able to appoint Courtrigh's replacement.

true Agam. I just bloody hell hope that at least one of the new guys gets his head out of his ass and doesn't follow Missy Jan around blindly. She wants council president because she is looking forward to the hope Doherty is moving up to higher office. The Ice Queen wants to be mayor so bad. :)
I CAN NOT believ what I read on DD. Some of the losers actually are embarassed on the voters for Chris Doherty. ITS THE MAJORITY , if it was up to them we would be living in a Hitler Era. Be upset all you want Gary lost, but the Mojority rules for crying out loud, get over it.

In the wind: Tommy Tell, walks away from Chief of Staff job for Murphy to join DiBileo's camp down the stretch Just in the wind, but my source, a very reliable one, advised me that just recently Thomas Tell, appointed in January to the Harrisburg Office of State Representative Kevin Murphy as his Chief of Staff, advised Rep. Murphy that the serious issues facing the city weigh heavier than being Chief of Staff. Reportedly, Mr. Tell officially tendered notification that he's returning to Scranton in the best interests of the 70,000 residents who are suffering under the Doherty Administration. Mr. Tell's family lives here and he owns several businesses, so his ties to the community are strong and well-established politically.
My source said Mr. Tell joins the DiBileo campaign effective immediately as the mayor's race goes into the final rounds, only 32 days left. DiBileo is already ahead of Doherty in every poll reported, so the addition of Mr. Tell in these late rounds puts a very experienced, well-connected and successful ringman in Dibileo's corner, thereby announcing to Doherty that the political scale has just dipped in DiBileo's favor even more.
Mr. Tell's trusted reputation for long hours of dedicated intensity, along with his campaign organization skills, will ensure that all of the important issues in this race will be identified, fully developed and put in front of the voters for their consideration.
I've also learned that the Teacher's Union has endorsed DiBileo, as well as the statewide Firemen's Union, which is bringing 100+ volunteers to the campaign to work distribution of pamphlets, etc.
Mr. Tell will be to the DiBileo camp what your mother's best apple pie is a damn good Thanksgiving dinner.
DiBileo by 8 points? Forget that now. DiBileo by 12 points.
Again as usual Agame you are wrong. Janet will appoint the replacement with the approval of Frank and Pat. Bob McGoff might as well trade places with Sherry and get use to the corner. He sits alone a minority of {1}
By the way...you look like an utter idiot by not posting her for week/months on end by then coming back to gloat after the election. Seriously, you really do. By all means post here and engage people in discussions, but but this finger pointing "nah nah, Janet won!" stuff is incredibly stupid and it feeds into the perception that you are this psycho spouse.
I want to believe differently...prove me right.

Election Winners: Chris Doherty, though he no longer has the majority and can't do what he pleases, he won easily on the Dem and won a write in on the Rep while having a nominated Rep in Bolus. Still in charge of the hiring/firing, union contracts, cabinet, etc.
Janet Big win. Got to give credit where credit is due. She won with a nobody and a college kid. Now she will have a majority and be president. Now here's the question, what will she do with it? Does the local government now work with a system of checks and balances and compromises (I think I read somewhere about checks and balances and thats how government should work) or does she act vindictive and cancel anything the mayor does out of spite? This could be a great thing for the city. She can curb spending while the mayor continues to move the city forward. Yes this can be done through compromise. Or instead does she turn the konsil circus into an even larger city wide j-a-c-k a-$-$ rodeo? My bet is on the rodeo. Remember David council majority may only last for 2 years, if she doesn't accomplish anything, while the mayor will be there for 4. This is Janet Evans make or break. She now has the cards and can accomplish what she said she would, we will be watching and I'm sure the Times will keep everyone informed.
Losers
Public Safety Unions. No matter how many letters the People's team send, or throw fits, the mayor has the final say on the contracts and is the boss. I have not one ounce of pity here. They used every card from tragedy to canvassing neighborhoods with scare tactics of fire house closures to try to win. Guys I really hope those keep our firehouse signs have a return policy, cuz I no longer want to hear about how you haven't had any raises.
Joe Pilchesky. No matter the spin or any other BS he shovels at the end of the day his wife is a convicted felon doen hard time, owes $156K (oh by the way everything is in her name, smooth) and Chris Doherty is the mayor.
Okay. I am driving down North Washington Avenue right now for Dave's keyboard. We don't need a scene, Dave. Just toss it onto the front porch and there won't be any trouble.
Chris Doherty's political career ended tonight in a ball of embarrassing flames! * 10 very expensive flyers mailed over a ten-day period * 5 front page articles with photo-ops over a five-day run * 3700+ minutes of radio time * 4200+ minutes of tv time * quite the colorful door hanger for every door * 3,500 yard signs * 10 billboards * numerous spin-off articles touting one thing or another * repeated endorsements from Clinton to Rendell * a rash of glorifying letters to the editor on a daily basis * a personal tribute from the Times in its endorsement * numerous City Hall employees working the streets/phones/stealing signs * endorsements from several local unions * shelled out an easy 1.3 million+
And he wins by 5% (+/-)? (Which is actually a 2.5% spread on a give/take basis)
That won't get it done in a run for office out of this area. Two days ago he was barking that he was up 20 points. Many of us believed it was closer to 0 points, maybe even down 4 points.
He desperately needed to win by 12 points + to impress Harrisburg, and that didn't come even close to happening. Worst than that, he completely turned his back on Gatelli and Fanucci to save his own ass and now he's not only lost majority, but he's facing an adverse supermajority. (See the appointment of DiBileo to replace Courtright)
Evans is in her basement now sharpening the axe.
First thing to go? Doherty's nuts, what's left to them.

GC
You don't have a green Volvo do you?? (Girl it was a green volvo right? I really struggle to recall what that loon says most of the time)) God knows he has been looking high and low for the owner of that car. LOL LOL.
Doherty spent 700,000k to win by 900 voted to a guy who spent 75k....ummm that is ridiculous.....I love it he spent 700,000k and lost his power....Dave...tell Janet start at the top in January!! clean house with her budget and to bring Gary along for the ride.........ahhh I love it.
joe pilcheski spent stolen money from his dearly departed father-in-law and heaven knows how much of OUR tax dollars filing 30+ bull$hit lawsuits, only to win HOW many? ummm - none
If Chris Doherty wants to piss away $700,000, to win an election over Dibilio or anyone else, I say "more power to him" and a very hearty "thank you".

I heard a guy make the same statement word for word on Sue Henry this morning was that you doomers? My only question is....do we know how much money was spent by the democratic party on Gary's behalf? How much was spent by the fire/police Unions? Somehow I think a whole lot more than 75000 was spent on the campaign. :)

I must say If Missy Jan "leads" the council this should be great fun....now she has to actually put up or shut up .....lol I can't wait for her to actually be held accountable for something!!
Please Agame. I enjoy this site. I haven't posted lately because #1 I didn't wish to get in a pissin match with IHAVE. I couldn't win and I hoped,,well it don't matter. #2 I haven't felt well. Had 2 more surgerys to my chest and neck. I'm not an utter idiot. Respect returns respect. I posted because what I read was false. None of you know how my son ran the campaign. I can tell you that it was sharp and precise. He took no prisoners and beat them at their own game. Maybe I will gloat about that. My son was a General for 3 months and I am proud of how he lead the charge for 5 candidates with 4 of the 5 winning. He was off by less than 100 votes in the order of finish in the council race. Huge!! Very HUGE indeed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David...correction...none of us care how your son ran her campaign. He is, however, garnering quite the "like father like son" reputation though. By the way, care to tell us which rapid DD poster Christopher is???? We have our suspicions.
Also, post here whenever you want, but don't for a New York minute expect that you're going to get back-pats and "Gee isn't Janet wonderful" accolades. If you want that, then go over to DD and write a post about how successful Janet would be if she chose to work in the private sector (Oh wait, too late...Joe already did that...in fact, that particular post, if I remember correctly, was almost creepy in Joe's devotion to Janet...better keep an eye on that situation as Edith becomes a resident of the state correctional system...).
Doomers...Question: Are implying that if Gary DiBileo were even capable of raisin that kind of money he wouldn't have spent it? Come on...you're engaging in a line that's only going to fly when you are dealing with a bunch of Pilchesky's toadies. If Gary could have raised that kind of money he would have spent every dime of it...and then some.

First...I heard the same thing on Sue Henry.....I repeated it. Next I wish Gary had raised 1miliion.....he could have fed the sheep in this city a bunch of crap also....I am glad chris through his council sheep to the wolves.....should be a great two years...........
I do have to agree with Dave...Chris obviuosly ran a great campaign.....his mother got more votes than the mayor!!
