Interesting that Fanucci, Gatelli and Doherty have not taken a public stance in writing letters to the governor about this. What the hell good are representatives of the people if they don't represent what the people want?
Just another example of how these three are political liars and cheats of the first class in robbing the citizens of public trust.
Now correct me if I am wrong, but I've not heard of Janet Evans spear-heading any letter writing campaigns on behalf of the SSSD either.
On another note, I thought that the Jesuits were the only source of religiously inspired evil in Scranton? Now the super troopers at DD want us to believe that the once revered Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are somehow usurping the University's Jesuit fathers in this area?
I'm fine with people pointing fingers at Senator Mellow's decisions all they want. I've not voted for the guy, ever. However the notion that somehow the IHM Sisters (who I had much experience with growing up) are behind the closure of the SSSD is laughably stupid. You will not find a more kind, dedicated, group of people on the whole planet than the good IHM Sisters.

Agam ...facts facts facts.....you always are a wet blanket throwing arounds facts!! DD likes to stick to rumours, inuendo, and flat out lies...get with the program will you?
I guess I missed that one. Poor Nelson believes in conspiracies. Are the "TANs" somehow involved in this plot?
If Marywood had some underlying desire to expand, why wouldn't they simply continue the way the have been for years, spreading out in the open area North of them, and keep a somewhat contiguous campus?
I would imagine if it becomes available that Marywood may want it ... but I somehow doubt that it is their desire to close it simply to gain that site. But as with everything else ... DD would have us believe this is the thought process behind it.
Balko makes a good point in that every time Marywood has expanded so far they have gone north of their existing campus using open spaces ...
I am personally hoping that the SSSD is saved ... I would like to see it remain open.

This is a tough one...the $97,000/student number that is thrown around seems high, but then again it's never mentioned in the same sentence with the cost for similar residential schools. Regardless, I think the operations of the school do need to be examined, but it would need to be from a...
"how can we provide these same or better services at less cost to the taxpayers"
point of view, not a...
"how can we save money and provide services"
...perspective. In the end, the needs of the children always have to come first, which I think is what is missing (from what I read) in Gov Rendell's rationale.
Regarding Marywood University, the have a much smaller endowment than the University of Scranton, which I think shows in far less aggressive expansion campaigns. In other words, it's not as if they are constantly on the hunt for property. Anyway, if the school is closed (and that's a mighty big if), someone would need to buy the property, and since Marywood has historically done an outstanding job of maintaining their properties why not them?
Rampant DD paranoia aside, I hope that the state does find a way to keep the SSSD open. Our value as a society is largely measured, in my mind, by how we treat those in need...especially children.

I just went to DD and well now it seems as though Chris Doherty is giving away the SSSD ... now come on he has nothing to do with this school ... it is not run by the city of Scranton it is a State owned State run School ... so how in the world could Chris Doherty be giving it away???
The Subject Title of the thread was changed from: BOB MELLOW FLIP FLOPS ON Scranton State School For the Deaf...why Bob?
To now read: Doherty giving the school for the deaf to Marywood
Pilchesky changed this subject title to reflect badly on Chris Doherty and well maybe I am missing it but where in the article does it even mention Doherty's name??? Point that out to me if you can ... this is just another example of how Joe Pilchesky is living in a world where everything is Chris Doherty's fault. If he got up in the middle of the night and tripped over something it would be Doherty's fault ... Chris Doherty even if he wanted to could not give away property owned by the state! Use your brains goons ... if Pilchesky said the sky was falling you would just blindly believe him.

They really don't see how obviously stupid they sound, do they? I'll bet that if Janet Evans were added to this list, she would be shown to have missed just about as many meetings as any other konsil member...
Tonight makes 3 in a row that Janet missed ... not that I'm counting or anything ... and I do not know if she missed any others so far this year ... because as I said ... I'm not counting!

Posts: 168 Date: Apr 28 3:58 PM, 2009 Sounds like Marywood has something to do with this. From the article: "Discussions continue about a role for neigboring Marywood University under the plan, Mellow aides said."
And isn't the gym at Marywood named after Mellow? Hmmmm.....

::: ... why wouldn't they simply continue the way the have been for years, spreading out in the open area North of them ... :::
Because if they continue North, they'll eventually be cut off by I-81. They have to spread toward the South, because if they absorb more real estate and intend to build, the good sisters will want to keep all their new construction in the same area.
Think they'll stop there? or will the church be next ... and then the Doherty manse??
