The Sad Joke That Is The Taxpayper's Association

Five reasons why the Scranton-Lackawanna Taxpayer's Association is a Sad Joke:

1.  To become a member, a majority of existing members have to approve.  Reference HERE.  Put another way, if you want to join but you have a viewpoint that opposes that of the organization's existing GroupThink, you are out of luck.

2.  The president of the association is Robert "Ozzie" Quinn, a man who single-handedly drove the local chapter of a nationally recognized charity, Habitat for Humanity into the ground.  Background story can be found HERE.

3  The group makes the following claim, which is patently false...

"The Scranton-Lackawanna County Taxpayers and Citizens Association is a non-partisan, non-political and does not support or oppose any candidate."

Even Ray Lyman can figure out who this group supports in any given election.

4.  The group constantly whines about taxpayer money being wasted, yet also whines if for some reason their meetings...held in a public facility...are not televised.

5.  Even if you are a member in good standing, you can be kicked out of the association by a majority vote without cause or recourse.  As stated in Article II of the association's bylaws...

 The members shall have the right to deny, or terminate, the membership of the Association, upon the majority of the members.

For example, if you were to speak at a meeting in defense of something done by a politician who is unpopular with a majority of members, you can simply be kicked out.

Don't they endorse candidates Ag? I thought they did but I might be wrong ... that would most certainly be against their very own rules.

What I find interesting is this ... I know that Ozzie founded this group ... but why do we never see a shifting of the Presidency of this club ... makes me wonder ... do they elect their officers or do they just keep going along with this man as the president of the asociation forever?

Comes directly from their mission statement.

The Taxpayer's Association is simply a formal structure created to put some sense of legitimacy around konsil loons.  They are structured...by way of membership and voting off rules...so that only people who agree with them can become and can continue to be members.  Think about it:  how much real discussion and debate can there be when everyone has the same opinion?

As for the Ozzinator, his past actions speak far more than his words.  The fact that he apparently is "President for Life" just typifies how illegitimate the organization really is.

All this association is ... in my opinion ... is just another venue for the Doomers to bitch about things on television.

Have you ever watched it? All they do is sit around the table and talk like they were sitting around their kitchen table ... there does not ever seem to be anything productive discussed and certainly nothing is ever discussed in a serious manner that is backed up with fact ... this is just Ozzies way of feeling important.

And he can put whatever he wants in that mission statement ... it still does not mean it's true.

Can you show up at the meetings and just sit back in the audiecne and listen to them. Or chuckle or heckle like THEY do when other people are talking? I can't see any reason why someone couldn't show up as a concerned citizen - taxpayer or not.

Oh you can show up ... but it would be more exciting to watch paint dry ... just my opinion. I'm sure that if you heclkled them ... you would be put out ... they more likely than not wouldn't tolerate anyone treating them the way they treat council.

Watch you will see that it's just a meeting of the doomers ... although that one guy Mr. Dobzen (sp?) he seems like a guy that genuinely cares ... but that could have changed as I don't really watch anymore ... it get quite boring after a while ... like a repeat of a bad show ... council meetings and the Taxpayer meetings.

I notice they all spruce themselves up these days. Morgan had on a suitcoat and tie and Marie combed her hair.. It's too bad the terms "silk purse" and "sow's ear" keep coming to mind.

I just heard from the taxpayers association that Doherty has not yet responded to his invitation to attend this Thursday night for candidate interviews. Nothing new for Chris, he has no respect for the citizens, or for council, so why would he respect the taxpayers association?


Allow me to respond:  The Taxpayer's Association represents the views of Ozzie Quinn & a very small number of bitter individuals.  They do not speak for a majority of Scranton Taxpayers.  Why bother responding to them?

I know that they do not speak for me! How much impact does this group actually have? They don't even take their own meetings seriously.

Lee Morgan is only spruced up because he's running for city council and he thinks a suit is going to help his cause.

I flipped past channel 61 last night and I saw Miss Clairol sitting next to the Ozzmeister. Now THERE's a pair to have seated at the head of ANY table. I hear she only goes to the taxpayers meetings so she can see what it feels like to be slumming in the cheap seats.
