When you see Jeremy Burton, who hasn't even lived here for six months, who owns no property here, pays no property taxes here, has nothing invested in Scranton, has no family here, has no roots here of any kind and has no loyalty to the people here, but has a ton of loyalty for lowlifes Sherry Fanucci and Gatelli, drop to your knees and bow to him. Kiss his ass, and kiss Sherry's ass, too, because if you don't this nobody's fvcking nobody might print something about you.  And why not print something about you?  What are you going to do about it?  Ask yourself what Hardcore would do about it? 

Heaven forbid that you lash back.  Take a stand.  Fight fire with fire.  It's too ugly for some people. 

Play nice, just like the Times-Tribune has played for the last 50 years.  See where it gets you.

If only women were that undemanding. If men were capable of being good, honest and decent in the first place, we wouldn't have to have sex with our wives so much to make up for it. Sometimes it's not the nerve, but surprisingly who's striking it. I believed you lived here a long time, my mistake. 

I've watched a gradual progression here, that has eroded into outright bigotry.  First it was the "Irish Catholic Network" or "ICN".   Whether someone subscribed to the administration's policies or not,  if they were Irish, they were no good and part of the conspiracy.

And, what's your point? That sh!t is 100 years old in this city. The "other" progression of exposing corruption has a price tag. Others are more sensitive to the words used to express anger or resentment and don't appreciate the violations that triggered the words. It's a mixed bag, but without the mix, the intent of free speech is chilled. You're enjoying your free speech, and that's how it should be. Your opinions are as important as anyone else's.  

Next, the blacks got slammed, and Stacy Brown was actually called the "N" word.  While a few (very few) other posters and I took exception, most either agreed or sat quietly back and said nothing.

No, no......one black got slammed. And, it was a well deserved slam at that. And, I was the slammer. I stand on my statements, if the black community hates the word N-i-g-g-e-r so much as an insult, then tell them to stop using it on themselves in society and song to their profit. It was hardly the color of Brown's skin that got him tossed off the City Hall beat, but he did fit within the definition of n-i-g-g-e-r, as did the Lynetts and Doherty, hence no lawsuit from any of them. It's 2009 for God's sake.  Smell the prostitution of keeping America in conflict for what it is - divide and conquer.
 
Let's not forget the folks who are from South of the border.  There was at least one thread on this site bashing illegal immigrants. 

You go to Mexico and see if you get the same social/medical/economical treatment they get here. I'm all for humanity, but get the fvck in line to be counted as a legal citizen when you get some free time. Thank them when you talk with them, the construction industry here is thrilled that they'll do anything for $6 an hour. Try competing with that in your industry.

Now it's Jews and gays.  Those evil Jews who control all the money and the gays who will be the downfall of the human race.

"Your mother wears combat boots", would have been just fine as a knee jerk reaction to Burton's antics of the politically threatening kind, and threatening they were. The point would have been made, OK? If he was fat, he'd have been on the nasty side of fat jokes like Gatelli and Fanucci are all the time. It really doesn't matter how Burton was criticized, it just matters that he was - in response to his attack. But, the attack wasn't pluralized to include all Jews and all gays, as you indicate. He may not even be gay, but at the same time, he's not willing to go 'on the record' denying it, and he was given that opportunity. I'll post that email. That refusal to deny is a statement in itself.  I'm afraid I'm from that old stock where believing that being a man meant you didn't suck another man's dick, Hardcore. Shame on my Mom for imposing such sweeping prejudicial prinicples up me. When he wasn't blowing me, my priest intimated that my Mom was a racist. Not knowing what that meant at age 12, I thought my Mom was against me joining the track team. I joined it in spite of her racism and became a long distance runner, an undefeated one at that. To this day I relate to the benefits of an intense competitive nature, in case you haven't noticed, which I didn't know I had until I joined the track team. My biggest fan was my priest.    

The ICN.  Illegal immigrants. The blacks. The Jews and gays.  Whose next on the list?  Shall I start buying stock in white sheets? 

Well, we really won't know who might be next. Maybe a male Chinese transplant from San Francisco who stands 4'2" tall having a Mormon father and siblings of mixed color and ethnicity, who also talks with a lisp and sports a braided pony tail with the words "Harley forever" tattooed on his left forearm and a butterfly on the other, nicely couched in a 60s pant suit, purse to match. If he writes the truth, we'll love him. If he doesn't, he's game. If he attacks, as that ******* Burton just did, he better duck.   

Slam Burton for being a puppet, or for having poor grammatical skills, or for writing articles without doing adequate research, and I'll sit back and watch the criticsim flow.  But insult a person for being black, or gay, or Jewish or DIFFERENT than you are, and I will stand with them. 

So noted. In America you're free to stand where you like. But, your pendulum swings too far to the prejudicially sensitive side. We're on defense here, Sir. We're somewhat limited, to boot. Burton introduced a willingness to do totally dishonest work in seriously threatening form. Furthermore, he used freedom of press to do it without fear of counter-attack in press form. Desperate as it was, and even for as justified as it may have been in its desperate form, it was clearly an ugly two-pronged message. Prong one: Fanucci can control the media to her political leisure. Prong two: No one can do anything about it. Prong one is still true, to the Times' disgrace. Prong two is a lesson learned for both Burton and the Times. Fanucci, Burton and the Times will write me a check further down the road, a fat one. The comments made here about Burton may or may not be just in everyone's eyes, but what he did, and was attempting to do, was totally unjust. He seriously pokes at us with a powerful sword called the Times Tribune. We poke back with an equally powerful sword called free speech, but absent the circulation prowess. Both swords are sharp, but neither are worth their weight holstered. If they don't like how ours feels, don't force us to pull it out. If you don't like it, that's your choice, but to call the "little guys" disgusting because we don't have a daily publication to attack others or defend ourselves smacks with disloyalty.  Get on the right side.

No, just an idiot. Idealism is to wiping out racism what capitalism is to wiping out recession. This country is eating its own young and the price will be heave. Racism is victim to itself in this country. The blacks hate it and love it at the same time. They use it to fill their cup with sympathy driven welfare and advantages and then throw it in your face by exploiting themselves for profit on national TV.  WTF. 

You're looking for Oz. I hope you find it, and when you do, don't be shocked to find that the Wizard is an Irish democrat and all the worker ants are divided blacks, Jews, Italians, Polocks, Germans and the rest. Click your heels for your OECD grant.

I thought we weren't supposed to be talking because of the litigation. I see the point you're making, and I don't believe it compares, but it's duly noted. Thanks for the chance to respond, but on these matters I will decline in part and respond in part.  What does it matter who my family is?  To a more concerning degree, I think you have to have a practical sense of reasonable and rational thinking.  Being in a bar known for gay partonization does not a gay person make.

Like I said, you're a public figure now.  Look at the influence you carry in that poison pen of yours. It comes with great responsibility for truth. There's justified concern regarding who you are. I agree with you 100% that being in a bar well known for gay partronizatin does not a gay person make. Perhaps a little reasonable and rational thinking would have served you well, too, because being in a house owned by another does not a taxpayer make. Your paper will additionally be sued for harassment while Sherry will additionally be sued for retaliation and you all shall be additionally sued for invasion of privacy. There's plenty of case law to support the claims. You couldn't have picked a worse time to play with people's lives. The mayor will suffer the political consequences for your proclivity to allow yourself to be manipulated as you were. Sad for you as a young journalist. You should have stayed in Buffalo. Your reputation here is severely compromised. Everything you write will be critiqued word by word.  It's just a matter of time that you'll be gone, as Brown is, writing about inanimate objects.
