Danny Hubbard Gets One Right (for a change...) & What To Do About It

To quote our favorite pastey council loon (from this thread)...

"Doherty mayor and Doherty majority on council.

The complete and totaldisorganization that runs rampant in the anti-doherty camp will be the sole reason that this plays out this way.

Rogan and Joyce might as well be Morgan and Spindler"

Now never let it be said that I don't give credit where credit is due, as Hubbard is 1000% correct on the points noted above.

What do to about it? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Treat Pilchesky Like He Has Scabies & Headlice (well if he had hair...how about crabs instead?)...avoid him like the plague. Pilchesky is in this for Pilchesky, not for the betterment of the City of Scranton. The more anyone associates with Pilchesky the more his stench clings to them. Average Scranton voters know that things like blaming Doherty for a suicide are extreme and simply wrong.
  2. Get Janet Evans to Stand for Something...simply being "anti-Doherty" isn't enough. We get it...she doesn't like the Mayor...what we don't get is what she would do differently. How about coming up with a real plan to reduce the wage tax (a plan with more detail other than "fire cronies")? Oh, and the "KOZs rob the people" rhetoric has to stop...it's silly and stupid. Can you argue that KOZs should be used more effectively? Yes they can and yes she should, but arguing that they shouldn't be used at all is, as Ray Lyman would say, "Reedickoolus".
  3. Get Janet Evans a Communications Consultant...she needs someone who will provide her with honest, direct feedback about how she communicates. What feedback? Well for starters, she needs to get the message that Council Chambers isn't a school classroom and that most voters in Scranton are capable of processing more than three words per minute. Also, with all due respect, she sounds very condescending.
  4. Focus On Real Issues...like the wage tax. Most Scranton residents do care that they pay a wage tax that is 2.4% higher than the surrouding communities, but most Scranton residents don't give a $hit if Ozzie Quinn thinks that the Nay Aug Treehouse was over-constructed. Seriously, the opposition needs to focus on real issues that matter to people, not just areas where they think Doherty has screwed up. Doherty has screwed up...but some of those screw-ups simply aren't all that important to average voters. I'll listen to a candidate who has a plan for making my life better, but I'll ignore someone who just rants on about "Doherty this" and "Doherty that".
  5. Argue that City Employees & the Administration Have to Work Together...don't simply stir up typical union "anti-management" crap. The days when city employees could dictate elections are long gone, and I'd venture to say that most city residents aren't union members anyway. What's more, a lot of Scranton residents earn less that city employees, so it's hard for them to understand the whole "down-trodden" thing the municipal unions try to sell. They will, however, understand that Doherty hasn't done a very good job of partnering with employees to make the city better, if it's explained the right way.
  6. Find Articulate, Well-Dressed Candidates Over the Age of 30 for Office...individuals who can talk about issues that matter to Scranton residents, not, for example, nonsense about illegal immigrants. Image does matter, and anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.
