Is The Assistant Zoning Officer Position Still Open? It has always been an unfulfilled ambition of mine to become more involved in the day-to-day operations of a municipality. I was thinking of applying for the above position, and have already downloaded and completed the application, but if the job has been filled, I will not mail in my packet so as not to waste the time of the Human Resources Director.
As an attorney and real estate broker, I believe I meet the qualifications and can compete with the current applicant pool. Although the salary is a bit of a pay cut, I will do my best to adjust my personal budget accordingly. Does anyone know if the application process is still open? I do not see the position listed on the official city website.
Upon submission of my application, I will make it available to the general public, with the exception of my Social Security Number.
Thank you.
GC
Now I know I'm a couple of days late reading this ... but comeon Glenn you don't really want this job do you? You do know that it would require you to move to Scranton ... you do know that don't you? All city employees are required to live within the city limits.
I think that you are only looking to apply for this to see if they will hire you ... you may fit all of the job requirements and may be the most qualified of all applicants ....... the one requirement you won't meet is ... that you do not live in Scranton.
I say however if you are trulyinterested then send in your application ... and good luck to you. At least the kids across the hall will be kind to you.

I thought Snarkiness was reserved for Tuesday's ... Shame on you Glenn ... Oh that's right he posted this at DD where snarkiness is encouraged everyday!

Oh, I'd take it. At least then I would know exactly what the qualifications were. I would also gain a better understanding of the inner workings of a city government.
Sorry Glen. No appointment for you. You're not capable of leaving your conscience at the door on your way into city hall. You didn't drop a few pennies in his war chest. You are not capable of getting yelled at from a spoiled brat each day. You don't seem to be the type to kiss butt. You don't control a pile of votes in Scranton. (at least I think you don't being from the upper valley) You don't have a degree in fashion merchandising. Your father was not an ex-mayor. You are a poster on DD. You know how to speak your mind. (you would be gone after the first time) You ran against his "officially and federally certified incompetent" buddy. And you are not a member of the Scranton Country Club.

geez -- shari was spot on with the snark she must have been saving up
::: You are a poster on DD ::: Hmmm, is that how you keep your job, hun? Oh, not your city hall job ... the one whose description explains how you have to stay on your knees at chez pilcheski waxing the vette when Edith is ::: ahem ::: indisposed.
I don't play the ICN stuff. With a vast majority of Irish decended people in our city, I'm sure that may have an effect by numbers alone, but it's not that way under Doherty. Doherty's only requisite is what you can do for him or what you already did for him, regardless of ethnic background.
Hi Thursday! (hun) I meant Doherty, I'm sure, doesn't like anyone who plays on DD. That's all.
"geez that sounds just like a description of every politician who has ever lived including your blonde savior Missy Jan."
No, Janet is different. She would never, for example, accuse others of "feeding at the public troth" while having someone in her own immediate family also employed in the public sector. Nor would she use an elected position to garner herself a well-paying public sector job. Nope.
Nope, Ms Evans is different. David told me so.
