If Judy Gatelli runs in 2009, she wins. Janet Evans will finish first (though by a narrower margin than in the past), the "officially Irish" Doherty candidate will use a "vote one" strategy to come in second, and Mrs. Gatelli will finish a respectable third. Anyone else, barring a Chris Phillips entry, is just cannon fodder.
Do you think anybody is going to want thrown at them what was done to Mrs. Gatelli? She's run the gauntlet. She'll be back in January 2010.

We have been saying this all along....that any potential candidate may very well pass on running due to the goon squad's personal assaults on people.... public or otherwise (children family members you name it).
On a different note.... what do you mean by the "irish" comment above?

I celebrate Snarky Thursdays over there. It helps avoid a conflict with Snarky Tuesdays here.
Chris Doherty (Dem Faction I) will put up two or three, but only support one strongly. That person will be able to muster up enough votes to pull off a win (see "Sherry").
The Gilbride/O'Malley Gang (Dem Faction II) will put up two or three, and back them all strongly, but towards the end of the primary someone will find themselves on the short end of the stick (see "Garvey") out of political necessity.
Two for II, and One for I. I believe Judy Gatelli will be one of II who occasionally makes deals with I, but less so than her first term.
Evans is only capable of winning elections in a crowded field, where the vote is split among several candidates. Her "core" of voters can only take her so far...after that her negatives create what amounts to a concrete ceiling.
As for Gatelli, the more people like Spindler and Pilchesky scream "rubberstamper", the more the average Scrantonian will think "council speaker crazies" and will probably vote for her out of sympathy; that, coupled with her normal constituency, means a re-election for Judy.

Talk to Ray Alberigi. He's the one who inadvertently exposed the whole "Endorsement By Ethnicity" scheme in the newspaper. They're already talking about "balancing" the commissioner ticket in 2011 when they bounce the little guy.
