DD up in arms over smoking ban....

This figures....the statistics show that the less educated a person is, the more likely they are to be a smoker....and even though I hardly ever look at DD anymore (just got too repetitive and boring), I had to check it out after the news of the smoking ban being passed. About 25% of the population smokes, but my bet is that about 75% of DD posters are smokers. And there they are, railing against this ban, for the most part. Typical, they don't mind laws that benefit them, but then they start crying "communism" and "nanny-state" when its something restricting their uneducated dirtball addicition.

Its sad, because a political website the critiques local government COULD be a great thing to have, just to create some discussion and give the people more of a voice, and there are some legitimate posts over there.....unfortunately, it gets coveredby the buffoonery.

Note to DD poster 'DET Shockley'...

I can't get lung cancer from your eating French Fries or your drinking Whisky. What I can get is lung cancer from being around those who smoke...even when they smoke in public.

Someone needs to wake this idiot up.

To Bitter Pill:

I have been saying the exact same thing for years now!

Yes, for those people who felt that big-brother's long, fat nose wasn't sticking itself into our private lives and businesses enough-like Sherri Funnelcake-ucci and Judy "Mimi from Drew Carey" Gatelli, it is a great day.

At the risk of sounding like one of Rush Limbaugh's foot soldiers, I'm going to out the smoking ban for what it is: aliberal/sociaist, anti-corporate power grab!

ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT THIS SMOKING BANHAS BEEN FOISTED UPON USBECUASETHE STATEACTUALLY GIVES AFAT RAT'S ASSABOUT OUR HEALTH NEEDS TO STOP SMOKING REEFER AND BLOWING THE SMOKE UP THEIR OWN ASSES,OKAY???!!!

The government's job is to protect me from Airplanes-as-Missles programs! End quote! By the way? Building a police-station next to a munitions plant? Bad idea! Skylining a communications center atop a mountain? That's like bending over in front of someone who wants to give you a wedgie, okay?

Since frigging when is itthe government'sjob to protect me from myself and my own personal choices? And what's next?French-fries? Whisky?
What didn't these politicians learn from Prohibition????

It is however the governments job to keep us from committing crimes against one and other ... is it not ... now I'm a smoker ... what if ... My husband gets Lung Cancer because of my smoking ... yes I am the only smoker in the house ... say he (God forbid) dies of lung cancer ... should I not be held responsible because I spent all of these years smoking around him ... I'm not saying that I murdered him ... but should I not be held responsible in some way ... he does not smoke ... never did and as far as I know he never will ... hell he has made it this far in life 50+ years and never even tried.

Where in the constitution does it give me the right to smoke ... to pollute the air of others around me. It doesn't and if there is someone who can find it ... hell please point it out to me.

I will be upset by this on the day that they come and tell me that I cannot smoke in my own home (I smoke in the kitchen in the winter only)... and out on my very own deck ... where I do go now ... anyone who follows me there (deck) well they know that I'm going to be smoking and if they don't like it ... well then they can just leave as this is my home.

But do I really have a right to light up in a bar or restaurant ... blowing my smoke all around ... and not even considering the person next to me ... Hell I'm a smoker and I can't stand it when someone lights up when I am out for a few drinks and places the cigarette in the ashtray and then walks away ... leaving the smoke blowing in everyone's face ... It's damn rude ... consideration for others has gone out the window ... we have become a me me me society ... and don't you all think that's sad!

I am a smoker and I support the smoking ban! They have been doing it in Massachusetts for years ... I believe it was the early 90's ... and they seem to be fine with it! Nobody has died becase of a SMOKING BAN ... Lets try and be respectful of the rights of smokers.

And for the record Bill ... I feel I have received a quality education ... I am a smart woman ... I just do stupid things occassionally ... smoking happens to be one of the less intelligent decisions I have made in my life!

Sorry for the ramble!
