Its smoke and mirros. The lien actually is worth nothing, but they can count it as an "asset" or something they they mght collect on in the future. The truth is they almost never collect on it, or they waive the lien for their political hacks when the property is sold. Voodoo economics is right on the money. Excuse the pun.
Again Very Joeyish the use of copy and paste responses below a response
The city of Scranton is not being re-developed to make a better 'Scranton for Scrantonians'. (Well, they are trying to get rid of the non-desirables, but its not working-yet). Oh, I know they are. (So you would rather undesirable people living in your community...ok.)
Rather, the city is being built to the consumption patterns of tourists, middle-class suburbanites and gentrifiers. (True, and is that is the last thing we want; people who spend money (tourists) , people who have some money (middle class) and people who invest money in property (gentrifiers). Why should the taxes of residents in the city of Scranton subsidize amentities that a.) they'll never use, b.) aren't supposed to use and c.) are built for a different population? [Taxes are used for welfare recipients all the time (and welfare is the one of the largest line items on every state and federal budget nationwide)].
Doherty has 'invested' our money into studies to determine if a revamped zoo will lure in people 'of the right sort.' (True, the city does not want the unemployed colt 45 drinkin' crowd Anti...and your point?). My point is that the city is not being re-built for the population that lives here and pays taxes. [Well Anti, your statement is a generalization, there are many classes of people that live in Scranton, the majority of which are poor and below the national poverty level, but there are middle class people here as well, and some rich people. Sorry, but government is not going to build any more po' folk housing in the City and the days of the endless supply of welfare are over-some people are fed up].
If so, then Scranton taxpayers will subsidize a good time for people who can buy and sell us. (Well, taxpayers have been subsidizing lazy people in this country for a long time. Last time I looked, the working people in the City have been subsidizing people on welfare and the welfare crowd has been having a real good time. Nobody subsidizes the middle class-they actually work for a living). Middle class get more subsidies than anyone. (No, poor people get the most out of the government, free health care, free gov't money every month, section 108 free housing, free food, free day care provided by lackawanna county, free legal assistence at legal aid, free public defenders when they commit a crime, no taxes, sorry anti, you are wrong once again.) We get the risk (unemployed, welfare recipients don't risk anything),when the city loans out money it probably won't get back, that's called risk. (no when money ios loaned out its called investment, another concept that po' uneducated people dont understand...which is why they are where they are.) private firms get the profit (private firms supposed to make a profit-but the welfare crowd doesnt understand that concept) they make the profit but don't pay taxes and don't reinvest the money here (once again you dont understand that we live in a capitalistic nation, Denaples certainly reinvests in NE Pa., he also pays a lot in taxes, just one example, plus he creates a lot of jobs) and Doherty's machine get to orchestrate the graft in such a way to a.) maintain political power and b.) insulate themselves from the city's decline. (vote them out then) Sorry, can't break the Irish gridlock. Apparently Albrigi and others sit in an office somewhere and see who's the most Irish and then support them. (Alberigi is not irish, doherty is just one man, is that your best excuse? blame it all on the man, why dont you run for office, you seem fairly intelligent, and the majority of Scranton is under the poverty level, you should get a lot of votes.)
The responses appear far too well thought out and maturely argued to be anyone in the Pilchesky family. Well, except for the part about Anti seeming "fairly intelligent" that is. That might have been thrown in for entertainment value only. The style of responses is meaningless. Some of the posters here use it. Very common style.
I just finished reading the postings and I agree with you Paul.
My guess as to how this plays out? Anti isn't used to people challenging him, so Kurt...ooops....I mean Anti...will end up crying like a 12 year old girl to Joe about being 'picked on' and the cease and decist order will then come on down via email.
What's cool is that you see Antis Aunt getting all sorts of ^5's from the DD posters who think that Anti is full of $hit. Monkey Shines is probably loving this. My advice? Enjoy it while it lasts, because it won't. Joe doesn't like deviation from the script.
