Wondering something. Hits vs views...

If crack-head over there gets "22,000 hits per day", presumably every day, why is it thread views don't back it up? In any given week, he would garner 154,000 views, according to his figures. Now I know not everyone views every thread. But I also know that truth never gets in the way of a good tale, especially there. On the first page of the forum, the current topics, only a handful have more than 1000 views, and some have been up for weeks. With about 3200 topics on the entire board, and figuring the average visitor views more than one topic during their visit (hit), the number is clearly fabricated. There's no way that his number can be accurate.

So if the site is that popular, what is it that they're looking at? It can't be any of the content, or the numbers would bear that out.

JOey apparently has some kind of magical software that not only counts how many people view the threads, but also tells him whats in their minds, hence his repeated statements that the 'tide is turning' on the Scranton political landscape.

Unfortunately, I am guilty of padding their numbers, for sometimes I have to go back and read some threads just to make sure I'm not crazy and didn't imagine it.

Since Judyandthestopandgo has crawled under a rock, I've noticed that the amount of new postings has taken a nose-dive. Has anyone else noticed? I've also noticed that there are more "new" members lately (20 or less posts) starting threads, and only a handful of the old die-hards still posting.

His traffic is cyclical, as it is for many message boards. With DD though you have the added dimension of the lunatic posting...some of those topics really drive traffic. That's what I think his whole "Mayor Killed the Fireman" thing is about...he's simply looking for "sieg heil" replies from his loyalists.

I get that. I think....

Let's look at yesterday.

1012 visitors yesterday. Figure he has at least 900 per day. That's 6300 visitors per week. Most of the threads on the main page are at least a week old, some more than that. Many of them have fewer than 3-400 views. So for all teh visitors, what are they looking at? The view counts should be much, muchhigher than what they are, especially if people are "monitoring" at the state and federal level.

I'm just saying that Joe is clearly lying about his numbers, all of them, and refuses to acknowledge it, even with the common sense looking him dead in his bloodshot eyes.

Joe is a complete and total fraud, and it's a shame that there are still one or two people who still haven't caught on to that ironclad undisputable fact yet.

"There are lies, damn lies and statistic."
- Mark Twain

Lieing about numbers is simply par for the course with Pilhcesky, and follows a long, storied series of lies, such as...

PA State Police Deceit

Louie Deceit

...and the list goes on. Anyone who is even remotely looking at what he writes with a quasi-critical eye should consider everything Pilchesky states as being a lie, unless proven otherwise.

Anyway, a large percentage of his traffic is most likely (based on people I've talked to) consumed by people that go to the site to watch the freak-show in action. He's captured the Jerry Springer audience, Scranton-style.

The webpages inform me that those websites are not available, for some reason. biggrin

Must have been the storm that knocked them off line, right, Joe? I refuse to believe that you haven't actually followed through with that, either.

My God, man. What is it that you actually do??

You also have to figure in his staff of bafoons who spend all day doing nothing more than clicking in and out of the site just to boost the numbers. That's how Fay is is going to supplement her fixed income after retirement.

You get a hit when someone visits your website.

You get a page view when someone clicks on anything.

So, according to the obvious and public numbers (except for "hits" - they're Joe's magic number) 22,000 people a day "hit" or log on to dd.com. Then, only 1000 page views occur after that.

That says one of a few things:

-Joe's lying about hits.

-22,000 hits and only a 1000 page views means that there is nothing compelling or interesting for anyone to click on. In other words, 22,000 visits occurred, but those visits resulting in getting enough interest to produce about 1000 page views.

What does that mean? Assuming Joe's crazy 22,000 hits per day number is accurate, the vast majority of those people go no further than the home page. Hits could be produced by search results, links from other boards etc. The real number is page views. Unless those hits translate into page views they mean nothing.

Going by Joe's numbers his Website is a complete disaster. About 4% of the traffic he drives (allegedly) result in anyone clicking on a story. Worse yet, the message board numbers are separate from the dd.com numbers. Activeboard doesn't host Joe's site (I think Earthlink does). The message board numbers are technically credited to another site - not dd.com.

Sounds a bit confusing, but thats the straight dope.

Think of hits as walking through a casino. Think of page views as dropping a quarter in the slot. Casino owners don't care about the walkers until they become droppers. Same goes for websites.

...and our numbers aren't inflated by the same people posting over and over again under different nicknames.

Speaking of that, anyone else curious as to how many different DD posters will suddenly disappear once Edith gets sent down the river? Hmmmmm...now that will be interesting. Maybe Pilchesky will keep up the posts for appearances sake...although with his own multiple personalities requiring upkeep, that could prove to be challenging. Oh well, I guess we will not be seeing anything in PA State Police Deceit anytime soon.

Our numbers are just fine ... I don't want to ever be like the kids across the hall. When we have something to say we say it ... we don't post simply to post. We don't make crap up ... we ask for proof when we should ... we don't worry about the personal lives of city administrators or city employees and their families ... we don't lay the blame for all of our problems on individuals running the city ... we live in the real world and take responsibility for our own actions ... we all here at PD can be proud of that fact.

I like our site just the way it is ... if we get new members ... great ... if we don't ... again great ... we have a nice little site with people who are living in the real world and not some fantasy world ... I don't tell anyone how to think or feel ... and we don't always agree ... however we respect one and other's opinions here ... I wouldn't give that up for the inflated numbers at DD for anything! Joe can have his psycho filled world ... I prefer a world full of free thinkers ... but hey that's just me!
