RE: We're Hitlers and Bull Connors and Reverend Simmons quotes "Mein Kampf"
"When you acknowledge this Web site by lawsuits and media coverage, you are giving these people exactly what they cannot get anywhere else- publicity.
And, lots of it, by the way. As do car accidents, train wrecks, natural disasters. People will look..it doesn't mean they like what they they see... you buffoon. Personally, I have never asked the Times or any other media to cite anything I have ever stated on this site. No but you whine constantly about how little attention you get and that the little bit you get is used to make an ass out you and your goons squad. :) They call me. I've appeared on WILK numerous ?? I think twice.. does that qualify as "numerous" ?? :) times in defense of free speech. Practically every interview done with Stacy Brown resulted in nothing being printed as I said it, ever. Ya and the check isin the mail and ...well you know the other big lies that go along with that whopper. They printed the bottom-feeder comments pretty accurately as I remember. Publicity will flow to those challenging the government, that's the compliment it deserves. It flows to mass murders also what's your point?? That's the fear of the establishment showing. Simmons forgets how the times absolutely hammered many council speakers for using their right to free speech, and here she is using her right to free speech to indict our use as illegimate. She never said you couldn't say the gross and disgusting things you say, she simply was pointing out how gross and disgusting you all are, doesn't she have the right to speak her mind?? Oh saviour of free speech!!?? Again... you buffoon. She's way off base here, way off. Or, is it paid off? I sure hope you aren't accusing her of illegal activity, she might sue you. :))
Stop turning the Hitlers and Bull Connors of 2007 into legitimate sources of information.
She talking about Gatelli? It can't be me, or any of you. I don't recall telling anyone they can't speak here. Those who abused the privilege of posting here have been banned for not conforming with the purpose of the site, but that's it. Oh please!!! Does Stormin Carmen conform with "purpose" of your board? Yet they stay and someone like SWB simply says something you don't like and bam.. they are gone. Explain that you jerkoff. Maybe Stormin is conforming with the purpose of the board aye?? Maybe he is just another one of your little alter ego's playing the bad side VS Joey again??
I have never read this Web site and never will because if you cannot and will not help this blessed city by legitimate words of aid, then you have no business speaking anything negative about it."
Then, how does she know what information is brought here? Suffice it to say that free speech is every corrupt administration's enemy, especially when there is a corrupt media protecting it. I've called Dohery, Mellow, all of the Lynetts, and so many other political players every name in the book in trying to get them to sue me for libel. They haven't. Why not? Because you are nothing to them, not even worth mentioning that's why a**hole. If this site is so evil and such a source of condemnable exploitation of government, why haven't I been sued. Why haven't I been arrested? The game ain't over yet so be careful what you wish for darling.. :) Took a while before they slapped the cuffs on many a criminal, patience... little grasshopper.. patience. Jarbola and the PSP shut me down and they got sued, and I won. Won?? Since when does settling a case mean you won?? Since the other side has to settle also does that mean they won also?? Nice try at re-writing history Clarence but you settled, settle(stl)v. settled, settling, settles
v.tr. To decide (a lawsuit) by mutualagreement of the involved parties without court action. Awww how sweet you and the DA mutually agreed. :)) Case closed. True that particular case is closed because you settled you whiner. We're here to stay. It's only just begun. We'll see. :)

The way these folks are all ganging up on Rev. Simmons is disgusting, to say the least. What is even MORE sickening is that Joe still firmly believes my own bainshment was justified. What did I do? I posted one thread in which I even attached thumbnail photos of a pedestrian plaza in Ithaca, NY in hopes to spur some INTELLIGENT conversation on how to improve our city using another as a case example. I explicitly said that I was "pro-city" NOT "pro-Doherty" and that a fine line had to be drawn between them. One can be a cheerleader for the revival of the city (as I am) while still questioning and dissenting from our elected officials when the occasion calls for it. Joe knew I wasn't some sort of pro-Doherty plant, yet he still banned me anyways. This man is a crock pot, and I can't believe folks in Scranton are DUMB enough to throw money at him left and right to support his "war" while some of their own neighbors could have benefitted from that money more by...per se...buying food for their children! What a waste!
Joe Pilchesky has soured me to the core on a lot of the people who live in Scranton and behave as immaturely as he does. I don't understand why folks don't realize that I love the city for what it is, not because of what politicians have done or haven't done to it. I love the block parties, historic architecture, tree-lined streets, sidewalks, neighborhood elementary schools, festivals, parades, etc. The downtown, whether the Legion of Loons wants to admit it or not, looks better than it has in quite a number of years. I'm proud to say I've done roughly half of my Christmas shopping this year at independent downtown merchants---the same folks DD members villify. I suppose I'm one of the select few who has been able to see the positive impact "The Office" has had on boosting awareness of our city on a national level---I talk to folks all the time online who joyfully say "Scranton? Isn't that home of The Office?! You're lucky to live there." I prefer to look at the BRIGHT side of Nay Aug Park---the treehouse, the water slides/pool, the summer concerts, etc. whereas the DD folks tend to look at the ruts in the Davis Trail, the collapse of the Hanlon Pavillion, etc.
I'm not a dumb person. On the contrary I hope to eventually pursue my Ph.D. in Accounting (I wonder how many on DD have even graduated high school?)I could easily afford to live in a suburb like Clarks Summit with a CPA's salary, yet I've chosen to restore a blighted home in theHill Sectionof Scranton in which to raise my family in in the future. Why? I foresee nothing but great things for its future, with or without excellent political leadership. The downtown hasn't rebounded so greatly because of Mayor Doherty---it has rebounded because outside of DD folks actually believe that their city CAN bounce back. I've spoken to some downtown merchants, and they, like myself, are optimistic that Scranton's better years lie ahead. The Electric City has everything I could ever ask for in a hometown, and then some. The city has the nation's fourth most affordable housing market. The city is the 59th-safest city in the nation. The city is becoming an attractive option for Wall Street West firms. You don't hear any of this on DD. Why? Those morons think that by expressing anything GOOD happening in the city automatically pledges allegiance to the mayor (which is undoubtedly why I was banned from DD). Why can't one be PROUD of where they live while trying to keep politics OUT OF IT?

Another absolutely genius statement from Les is More (Les Spindler?):
If all she said was stop the hate, that would be fine. But the hate doesn't come from here. We aren't the ones responsible for Gatelli's and Fanucci's actions over the last two years. They started it. Doherty started it. We're just cleaning up the mess, or trying to, and calling it like we see it. I think we're calling it right on the money.
Can this person possibly be any MORE brainwashed?"The hate doesn't come from here?" What exactly do you call your fearless leader's approval of using the "n"-word merely because it is protected under freedom of speech? Love? What do you call your fearless leader's (amongst others) nasty remarks to me during my brief tenure on DD for my sexual orientation? Tolerance? What do you call your forum's flagrant support of using very nasty comments to reference elected officials? Peace? If youdon't think Mr. Pilchesky is leading you and the others in Scranton astray like sheep being led to slaughter, then please be my guestand encourage your palJoe Pilchesky to willinglycall Samuel Patillathe "n"-word. After all, if there's supposedly nothing wrong with using thatslur, he should take it as a compliment, right? Dr. King would be rolling over in his grave right now if he were aware of how much racism and homophobia are both championed and celebrated in Scranton---no wonder why folks from NJ and NY laugh at us.
"Cleaning the mess?" I'm sorry, but I firmly believe that ifDD had never been created, Scranton wouldn't be the laughing-stock it is today. You wouldn't have the Legion of Loons spinning off to try topander to the televisioncameraanddisrupt official city business atcouncil meetings. You wouldn't have lawsuits being filed left and right from all angles. You wouldn't have council members being forced to limit speakers' timerestraints so drastically. You wouldn't have city council meetings canceled because elected officials feel threatened by exploding head avatars that belong toanonymous city residents with a visible hatred for these same officials. You wouldn't have so many battles in newspaper editorials.Folks here in Luzerne County (think debit card scandal) still laugh atScranton thanks to DD and theNEGATIVE impact ithas had upon the city's image. You knowthings are bad when the same idiots who voted in an ex-NFL playertwicesimply because"good football players make good politicians" are laughing their arses off at you!
DD is what I'd like to call a pimple on the ass of progress. While boosters like me invest countless hours into photo tours, uplifting editorials, volunteering, etc. to make this city a better place in the eyes of the rest of the nation, idiots on DD negate any good work I've done. I've succeeded in luring several families to the city through my optimistic efforts. DD has probably sent hundreds more packingand heading to the Abingtons to rape even more of ourrapidly-depleting open space for McMansions with their negativity. Yes, DD, continue to scream to the rest of the world "Scranton sucks" and then sit and wonder why the tax base continues to erode. Want your taxes to go down? Increase the tax base. Want to increase the tax base? Give peoplereasons to come here (as I do), not reasons to flee (as you morons do).

portion from the opening post in the thread referenced above ::: ... "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone..." John 8:7 "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Matthew 7:1 :::
Tell me - where in the hell does ANYone at that site get the brass balls to utter those words in comparison to Simmons? Personally, I don't like the woman and do not appreciate the way she pontificates at the podium, as if she is sermonizing to the masses, but who the HELL do they think they are when they say that they judge no one? Practically each poster across the hall is a judgmental son of a bitch, and it's posters deserve all the scrutiny they get. IN SPADES.
DD has probably sent hundreds more packing and heading to the Abingtons to rape even more of our rapidly-depleting open space for McMansions with their negativity.
You're giving this message board WAY too much credit. All Judy and Sherry had to do was take a page out of Chris Doherty's playbook and treat DD as though it did not even exist. But they keep bringing it up, and that is a huge mistake. It is entertainment. You may approve or disapprove of its content, but in the end it is nothing more than the online version of the "public speaker" portion of the council meetings.
Seriously, though, I believe you should take off the rose-colored glasses. While I believe that a positive attitude is the preferred choice, such an attitude should always be anchored in reality. This city is in deep financial trouble. Your uplifting editorials and photo tours mean nothing if the city careens into bankruptcy and/or annual double-digit tax increases become standard.
...Joe Pilchesky is not a crusader for truth, justice and the American way? ...Nelson can't get real news at DD? ...AntiSemiticMovements' rants about vast Irish Catholic conspiracies are more or less equivalent to Jimmy Stucker's rants about the latest doings on Parrot Avenue?
I'm suffering from a major case of bubble-burst at the moment. I think I need to cry.

You're giving this message board WAY too much credit. All Judy and Sherry had to do was take a page out of Chris Doherty's playbook and treat DD as though it did not even exist. But they keep bringing it up, and that is a huge mistake. Maybe I can share some insights into this for you Glen. I run, of course, the risk of being completely un-PC by saying it but here it goes anyway. (This is purely my opinion based on my own feelings as a woman, not based on any info from the people involved) I agree that Mr. Doherty remaining silent about the attacks he has received by DD has frustrated their efforts to get his goat, so-to-speak, however the attacks on the women have been very different kinds of attacks. I have heard of you Glen, by way of your campaign, but I do not know you personally so I do not know if you are married or not, but I am going assume for this purpose that you are married. Tell me Glen, how well do you think your wife (or daughter, sister, or mother) would hold up to a daily barrage of insults like the following: Whore, slut, bitch, fat, ugly, stupid and so on and so on?? How about accusations of sexual promiscuity? Lets face it, there is a huge double standard still in existence that allows a man who has many partners to get the wink-wink boys will be boys reaction, while a girl who is tagged with that same behavior becomes a object of scorn. So the same attack rained down on a man will receive a very different reaction than when it falls on a woman. How silent do you think Mr. Doherty would remain if the people who were the recipients of DDs attack were his wife, daughters, sisters, or mother?? In addition you have to take into account the creepy undertone that these weirdos seem to be watching the women constantly. Mr. Doherty lives on a main well traveled street, to see him coming and going as they traverse the area is not as suspect as constantly stating what is going on at Mrs. Gatelli home, which is on an off road area. Scary?? It would be to me. It is entertainment. Sorry I do not call trying to destroy a person "entertainment". You may approve or disapprove of its content, but in the end it is nothing more than the online version of the "public speaker" portion of the council meetings. Wrong... as the "public speaking" portion of the meetings, as awful as they are, would never allow for a speaker to engage in the horrific comments posted on DD (i.e. the n word, the attacks on the womens appearance, accusations of sexual promiscuity, or threats - "I hope you get aids" pictures of guns, exploding heads, and so on) Anyone who should try to engage in that behavior would see how fast their butts would be arrested. Ask Patilla about it. Seriously, though, I believe you should take off the rose-colored glasses. While I believe that a positive attitude is the preferred choice, such an attitude should always be anchored in reality. It is the job of the elected officials to help bring this man's positive attitude to fruition. He brings the ideas; they build the foundation to make it happen. He should keep his glasses firmly in place, lest he become disillusioned. We would all be the poorer for having lost his enthusiasm. I hope that never occurs. This city is in deep financial trouble. Your uplifting editorials and photo tours mean nothing if the city careens into bankruptcy and/or annual double-digit tax increases become standard. His uplifting attitude means everything, please do not discourage him. I usually really like your comments Glen, but I am surprised by your negative attitude on this subject.

1. I agree that stalking anybody is inappropriate. This probably does not fall into the "illegal" category, but it is improper to say the least. Public officials should feel safe in their homes.
2. If you do not want to be insulted, do not run for public office. Politics has been a full-contact sport for over 200 years. This teary-eyed "woe is me from that damn website" routine is getting old. I always said that family members are off-limits unless they choose to become public figures. Mr. Doherty has shown amazing discipline in dealing with public criticism, Mrs. Gatelli honestly tried to remain stoic but eventually succumbed to the pressure, and Ms. Fanucci has made it worse by her "us vs. them" attitude.
3. One can have a positive attitude yet still be aware of financial and political realities. I would argue that one can make a greater contribution by occasionally diluting one's fervent idealism with a drop of pragmatism.
4. I honestly believe Scranton is in deep financial trouble, and that both the mayor and the council are simply running out the clock trying to move on to bigger and better things before the whole house of cards comes crashing down. Numbers are what they are, and these numbers are not sustainable.
5. I feel that any city or town can be rejuvenated. However, don't pull out the pom-poms and tell me a website is responsible for people moving out of Scranton. That simply is not true, and such a one-sided view allows those in positions of authority to avoid the responsibility of making truly difficult decisions.
2. First off, I agree with the old saying ...can't take the heat...yada yada stuff.. but lets be honest these "insults" go way and above what any normal thinking individual would expect to recieve as a sitting official. If this kind of attitude continues, and is excepted, then you can kiss goodby forever the hope of ever getting a good candidate, who cares about their reputation and good name to run for office. If a person cares about their reputation they won't run and if the person doesn't care about their reputation and good name, would you want that kind of person to run and possible win?? Besides, my point was that I agree Dohety has been able to maintain his silence, but would he have if it were his female family members being abused in this way? Would you have remained stoic if you were in this boat? I know you have spoken out about ripping family members of sitting officials, however how would you have reacted personally if it had been your granddaughter and daughter being ripped apart? Would have remained silent then? I don't think so Glen, you are far to decent of a human being to not let something like that get under your skin. These people are public officials but they are not robots, they actually have feelings just like we do, and when attacked they will react just like the rest of us do...they are, after all, human beings. Secondly, as to Mrs. Fanucci and the US vsThem attitude. I do not believe she created that reality (and yes in that council chambers there is most certainly an US vs THEM attitude.) that was nicely created by Jan and her merry band of suck-ups. I believe if you look back over the meetings right from day one (and even further if you are up to it ..to her School Director days) you will see this most clearly. So again are you expecting Mrs Fanucci to react any differently to the climate she is exposed to than any of us would react in the same situation? Last but not least, there are two schools of thought on remaining silent on personal attacks, you seem to favor the "silence" school of thought, however there are many who believe by silence you are saying it is true. I offer the last election as an example: Do you think if John Kerry were able to do that election over he would remain silent again for as long as he did, about the swiftboater comments? By the time he finally reacted the damage had been done. He was not able to recover. Silence for him was defeat. I sincerely hope you win office one day Glen 1. because I think you could do a good job. 2. because I would love to speak to after you have been assaulted in this way, over and over, for days on end and see how you feel at that point.
3 A drop would be fine, just don't douce this kids flame of passion by a downpour... agreed?
4. I know better than to argue numbers with a numbers expert. Point taken. :)
5. I agree. I do not believe DD or the clowns who appear at the city meetings could run anyone out of Scranton, who already live here. However, I do believe they could very well change someone's mind about moving here if they see them in action or read the hatred spewing out at DD, while they are still shopping around for a place to live. I know personally I would not choose to live somewhere where I preceived there to be a negative or nasty atmosphere. I would continue to look..........elsewhere.
As always I enjoy a good debate with you Glen. :)

2a. I agree that Mrs. Evans has not done herself or the city any favors by encouraging the weekly "speeches". However, Mrs. Evans (and I honestly do like and respect her) will soon suffer the consequences of her political fence-walking when she is faced with the Sophie's Choice of city politics: whether to run for mayor and literally hand a third term to her political nemesis or sacrifice that which she craves so badly and allow someone more in sympathy with her political views to have a clear shot.
2b. I would remain silent or challenge the person to bring something issue-oriented to the table rather than scathing personal attacks meant solely to irritate me instead of benefiting the city as a whole. It's politics. Unfiltered and sometimes uncomfortable.
2c. I have no personal problem with Ms. Fanucci. She seems very pleasant and willing to work for the betterment of the city. However, she just doesn't know when to move on where the audience is concerned, and when she attempts to explain her positions or justify her viewpoint, she occasionally comes across as somewhat unqualified.
2d. John Kerry did not even protest that the comments were inaccurate, and his campaign really never recovered. False accusations against a presidential candidate for dereliction of duty and/or treason should be refuted. Calling someone a whore, a fat ass, or a criminal for misplacing fifty cents at the Stop N Go in 1968 is just ridiculous name calling, and I believe it has been viewed as such.
Mrs. Gatelli's perfect response to criminal accusations was "So go to the Attorney General." They didn't. She wins.
3. Sure.
5. I honestly believe that the wage tax (3.4%) and the real estate transfer tax (4.0%) are the biggest threats to an economic recovery in Scranton. They inhibit job growth, salary growth, and discourage investment. I still believe the web site is no longer a factor. The racial slur was the pinprick in the already-deflating balloon. Once Bob Cordaro got slaughtered at the polls, there was nowhere for DD to go, and the name-calling (and subsequent defense) was just a massive hit to any credibility that remained.
The truly amazing thing is that on this site we can have a civil debate and it doesn't degrade into Jr High name calling.
A few cents from me on this...
...thanks for the tissue offer Lus.
...I fall firmly in the "ignore the a$$holes" department in terms of dealing with Pilchesky and his small band of morality-impaired followers. However, like IHave said, there is a line in the sand that shouldn't be crossed...the line that Comedian Rush Limbaugh crossed when he compared how Chelsea Clinton looked to a dog...the line that many in the press crossed when the reported on the drinking habits of the Bush daughters. Yes, the candidate is fair game in this country, but the family is not. Maybe this is why I'd never run for office, as the moment any of my children came up in a DD post I'd be planting a size 13 up someone's 'you know what'.
...It isn't all sunshine, smiles and rainbows in Scranton, but the problems we suffer from are the same problems that many cities are suffering from. Scranton carries the bulk of the areas not-for-profit real estate, we carry the bulk of the areas poor and we have far more infrastructure that any other community in NEPA. Chris Doherty didn't invent those problems. Fault him for not addressing many of them, but the notion expressed at DD that he is at the heart of all of our problems is a sad joke.
...Janet Evans? I've tried really hard to keep an open mind on her, but it's just impossible. She just telegraph's her ambitions at every turn. I've rarely seen such naked ambition at work. Her budget? It's a political document, not a financial one. The long-term problems of Scranton CAN NOT be solved by doing away with the Public Safety Director and cutting administration salaries (Ms Evans)...just like they can't be solved by failing to negotiate reasonable contracts with the uniformed employees of the city (Mr Doherty). To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "Government is too big and it spends too much money"...that is especially true in Scranton. If Ms Evans believes that she can become mayor and solve Scranton's long term financial problems without some significant sacrifice on the part of the city's unionized employees...the very same individuals she cow-tows to at every turn...then I've got a Nigerian investment opportunity I think she should look into.
...Pilchesky revels in the attention he gets from his DD followers, but it ends there. Everyone I've spoken to who has read DD postings has walked away with the "it's just a big joke" impression. Even seemingly Joe-tolerant people like WILK's Sue Henry will admit that it's really nothing more than a gossip site.
