Ok ... I'm not against unions ... I know that some here are ... I do not happen to be one of those people. WHAT ABOUT THE CLERICAL UNION???? Click and go!

There is a thead at DD that is feeling sorry for the clerical union because they had no choice but to accpet a contract ... now forgive me here ... but don't the members vote on contracts ... what in the world could they have had held over their heads that was so threatening as to make them accept a contract that was not good for them? What would be the difference if they had made the choice to do as the police and fire departments had made to work under the old contract. i have to say that they are claming that the got nothing anyway ... so why would the make the choice to vote for a contract that would hurt them and not help them ... and did the fearless Nance Krake push for them to accept this contract?

I am sorry but I have much sympathy for the police and fire depts. but I can't say that I have the same feeling for the clerical union ... they at least were given the opportunity to negotiate ... who is at fault when a union accepts a bad contract ... I would say that it is the Union that is at fault. They gave up!

I've been reading that thread, and the bashing is being equally distributed among many, including the retirees "who got double pensions".

I look at it this way: People should be free to unionize (or not unionize), but along with that comes the responsibility of accepting the consequences of the collective bargaining process. If anything, the poor contract is the result of poor union leadership.

As for the police and firemen, I've said all along that they deserve a contract that provides a wage that at least keeps pace with inflation. They don't deserve to run their respective departments...that's the job of management...but they don't deserve a multi-year wage freeze either. The mayor needs to step up and settle these contracts, period. Endless litigation is not helping anyone, save the lawyers on both sides.

Ag ... if this were an illegal vote for a contract they had the option of taking it to their lawyer and doing something about it ... How long has Nancy Krake been in the position of President of this union ... and since when does a Union President allow the VP to negotiate a contract? I don't think that the whole story (a norm for DD) is being told about this contract ...

It's always easier to lay blame at the feet of someone else!

Nancy Krake has been union president since the former president was hospitalized for a paper cut and serious burn to her left buttock from the photocopier glass. The union is in litigation with xerox as we speak. They are using the same reasoning as the lady who spilled McDonald's coffee in her lap, claiming she wasn't warned about the extreme heat of the product.

Bunch of crybaby typists who, if they can't (or won't) do the job, should step aside and let someone who needs the job get to it. Firemen and policemen need a contract - Krake and her crew need a band-aid and a tub of wite-out.

edited to refer to dd disclaimer below

as i see it, why would the Mayor want to sit down with Nancy Krake to try and negotiate a contract? this is the person who gets up at council meetings and bashes him every week. the union members should be plenty pissed off that she is not speaking for ALL of them, just herself and her own agenda. If they had any sense, the union should vote for another representative that actually represents them and their interests as a group. after speaking to some union members i am at a loss to understand what it is they truly want outside of a raise. the benefits for life deal just doesn't fly in today's world. great for those who have it, but not realistic in society these days. as far as copays for medical visits and prescriptions, shut up already. everyone in the nation (that actually has health insurance) pays a copay to their doctor or pharmacy. this is life these days. live with it like the rest of us do!!!

Crybabies - the whole damned bunch of them -

I want
I need
buy for me
do for me
lift me, carry me

For cripe's sake, do a real job for an honest day's wage and speak for yourself, instead of having that insipid little dimwit whine on your behalf. Haven't you learned yet that she does more harm than good???
