This can't be good for Joe. Gotta' think these guys will be all over him. Sure, this is how the people over there want to be portrayed. You can dislike Stacy's writing all you want, but Joe is trying to rationalize being a racist.

Sounds like John Mitchell might be somone who had finally become disenchanted with Pilchesky and his methods, if not necessarily the message. Seems to be quite a bit of that going around lately...
