I truly like living in this city. There are problems to be addressed, but that is in every city in the United States. The grass is NOT greener everywhere else. It's the same grass, the same issues. If this city is so awful to live in and there is nothing of worth or value here, then why don't they pick up stakes and move? That is a freedom we all enjoy and i wish they would exercise their democratic right to do just that.
i used that argument before. Like most people of their type they say, "no onw will buy, no one will move into this city, i cant aford to just move." yadda yadda yadda.
You are right they will say that, but the funny thing is three homes on my block sold in no time and now have lovely families with children living in them. Plus friends of mine just bought and moved into the city and love it here. So that is four homes in my small circle of the world which went on the market and sold in no time.

Why live here? The taxes are too high, that's for sure, but you get something living here that you don't get any where surrounding the city...namely professional city services. The Scranton Police are top notch...I genuinely wouldn't feel as safe if I lived, for example, in Moscow. Same holds even more true for the Scranton Fire Department.

The taxes are high ... but I have to tell you all that ... and you don't have to believe me ... but I have been looking to purchase a new home .... I have been looking all over and let me tell you that Scranton is not the highest ... homes here are more affordable ... I have been looking at homes in Moscow ... in Clarks Summit .... I have to say that Throop was about the cheapest when it came to taxes ... but the services were not there.
What I like about living in Scranton is this ... that when there is a problem ... your neighbors who become like family pull together ... and help you get through ... what I love is that when you hear about someone who has an illness ... everyone gets together and throws a fundraiser and helps raise money for whatever the problem is ... and they come from all over town ... not just the neighborhood of the person who is in need.
And I know at DD they say that we are crime ridden ... well ... not my neighborhood ... I can go for a walk in my neighborhood at any time of the day or night and feel safe ... I guess not all in Scranton can do this ... but I can ...
I love the cultural diversity of our beautiful city ... you won't find people who are as friendly anywhere else ...
Call me crazy ... but there is a sense of family living in Scranton ... and that is something that you won't find anywhere else ... in my opinion that is ... for every one thing that is wrong with our city there are 100 things that are right about it.
I couldn't bring myself to leave ... but that's me ... I like having professional services available to me ... and yes I have had to use those services ... Our Fire Department is the best! Caring ... comforting ... and more efficient than any other ... Although I have never had to use the services of the Police Department ... I am sure that they are heads above the rest ...
And the DPW ... well I don't have to worry about having a sticker on my bag of garbage ... I put it at the curb on my designated day ... and well along comes that truck and they pick it up ... it does not matter that I have only 1 bag or if I have 50 ... they will pick it up anyway ...
So tell me what is so wrong about living in Scranton ... and if you find it such a horror to live here ... well then maybe you should go ... everyone needs to find a place that they love ... I know that I won't live anywhere else ... I was born here ... and I will die here! I love it here!
