First, let me say that I don't agree with the content of the letter sent to some guy from South Side who complained about a letter he got at this afternoon's council meeting.

What gets me is why anyone had to suffer through listening to him carry on about how some one sent him a nasty anonymous letter. How is that city business?

On a humerous note, he made a repeated big stink over how the envelope the letter came in had fingerprints on it. His thought is that it will be the key to making an arrest. He's right, the letter will have plenty of finger prints on it, including his, the mailman's, half a dozen other postal workers, etc.

"Welcome to Scranton, we're not as nuts as we look on TV." I'm pitching that as our new slogan.

That a boy Art. Abuse a guy who was just abused. Nice. Are you the kettle or the pot?

How did I abuse him? I said I disagreed with the content of the letter. I merely pointed out that he was crazy (and inviting more abuse) if he thought that spouting off about it on TV and thinking finger prints would help solve "the crime."

There's a lot of growing up that needs to start happening around here. Are you by the day or by the post?

Your alleged ID aside, you do see the lunacy of such behavior at council as described above...don't you? You have to admit it has no place at a public meeting. Can you admit that much?

This probably belongs over here more than it does in the ASM Dumbfck thread:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What will council do about mailed letters? Wouldn't that fall under the jusrisdiction of the Postmaster General?

In much the same way that Council is not the place to go when someone raises the price of a bowl of soup, it's not the place to go when some idiot fires off one anonymous letter to your house.

I'm not saying the letters are fake, and I'm not saying they're not being viewed as threatening by the recipient ("threatening" is in the eye of the threatened, right?). I'm saying that it's not city business. Even if a handful of white powder fell out of them and the letters exploded, it still is not city business. Anything involving the mail is federal.

What's next? "Council, Jimmy's staring at me!" Seriously, this town needs to grow the hell up.

There was an sad elderly chap too who started bawling ( I felt bad for him really) about how the cops couldn't stop the kids from cussing at his wife or urinating on his house.

The meetings really are a freak show.

As Paul stated, that letter may have contained real threats, those kids probably really are peeing on the poor guy's house, but a council meeting is the wrong place to bring it up.

What went wrong in this city? When did it become common place to complain about your mail and the neighbors at a council meeting? There is no one on council with the power to do anything about those issues but nod.

Art, it's called nowhere else to go. If you're not from Clarks Summit or you're not connected, your complaints go unanswered. As far as a freak show? That's your opinion. While some speakers are painful to watch, they're people. Real people who have the right to address their government. People can complain about it all the want, but no one will ever stop a US citizen from addressing their government. The other right we have is the right to change the channel. Try it sometime.

Shari I have checked again today and I have to say there are not deleted posts with the Date June 14 or 13 on it for you ... there are deleted posts that I wrote ... but that's about it.

I don't know what's happening to your posts ... I honestly am not taking them down ... I have asked the moderators and they are not taking them down ... I do not know what is happening to them.

There are so many things wrong with what you just said.

The police, not council are supposed to handle police matters. I have lived here all of my life, am not connected to anyone, and have had the police respond to every situation (which thankfully hasn't been many) I have ever needed them for. You can tug at the heart strings all you want, and I feel bad for that poor old guy, but he was wasting his time (and mine) at the council meeting.

Sure you have the right to address the government about anything you want, but that doesn't mean that you're not wasting valuable time and energy while accomplishing nothing.

I shouldn't have to change the channel. I tuned in to watch city government handle city business; not listen to old men cry, watch crazy guys wave letters, listen to Jim Davis talk about not having a chance to discuss issues that were already discussed, watch Sam Patilla carry on about pulling mayors from other cities aside this weekend for a chat - the list is endless. None of that has anything to do with city business. It's become a sounding board for people who think like you. No business is attended to or discussed.

It is, in fact, a freak show - broadcast for all the world to laugh at every Thursday. That's reality sweetie, sorry it's beyond you. You still have this idea that the 20 nuts who ramble endlessly each way represent a cross section of our city. They don't. They're the same 15 or 20 people talking about the same thing, every week for years.

I think that the older gentleman went to council with the neighbor problem because it was with the mission that never was granted zoning for the old Universal Printing Building ... yet they have gone ahead and moved in and began using it. They are in the process of appealing the decision.

Now comes the "Homeless" people that this mission's helping ... they are causing all sorts of problems for this older gentleman and his wife ... urinating on his home ... cussing at them ... etc. He wants something done because they are occupying that building ileagally ... that is City Business and something that Council can help with.

Remember Jan said she went down to that mission and took care of that problem ... well apparently she didn't!

Now as to Mr. Jackowitz (sp?) It is unfortunate that he received that letter ... and I'm with the other posters here who say this is not city business. It is also not city business to get up and bitch about the Scranton Times Articles ... it is also not city business to get up and Bitch about the Chris Barnes Show in the AM ... come on ... lets get back to city business ... and leave our personal feelings at the door.

Lets make our point in a strong ... yet dignified manner ... one can make a strong dignified request ... I know ... If we conduct ourselves as adults and not pre-schoolers throwing a tantrum ... we will all be surprised when we begin to get the answers that we seek.

one more thought on Mr. Jackowitz and the letter he received ... he read it to council and well I listened ... he felt threatened by that letter ... however ... I did not think it was a threat ... why is he different than Judy? Why is it a threat if he says it is ... and well Judy should not fell threatened by what the DD nutbags wrote about her? Isn't that a double standard?

This poster cracks me up ... isn't what Bill Jackowitcz (sp?) doing the same as what they are accusing Judy of doing ... did I miss something ... he feels that he and his family have been threatened ... I didn't see it ... but who am I to tell this man how to feel? I can't ...
Who is to say what makes someone feel threatened ... a threat to me may make another laugh ... I could take what another takes as a threat ... as a joke. I think that it all depends on the personality of the person who is on the receiving end of the "threat" ...

RE: Reihners petition demanding the names of posters here

One (of many) of the standards of gauging human respect and decency for each other is comparisons to what we learned from interacting with our parents, teachers, and most other adults.

She speaks to people as though she's in some cat fight in an alley, where anything goes. She ignores the people who are speaking to her. She doesn't answer questions put out to her. And, worst of all, she's lazy, but expects everything in return. If I ever did that to my parents, teachers or my boss, I'd be tossed in a New York heartbeat.

One of our posters (Blonde) has done some wonderful research on Gatelli, showing her course of conduct in using the words, 'I feel threatened,' for many years. Do some psychological research - that's behavior intended to garner attention, sympathy, and support, and often to coerce love from someone. It's a manipulative measure which can be effective. I heard she's good at it. Mostly it's used by people who started practicing it when they were children, found that it works, and never grew up emotionally.

You've really got to feel sorry for her.
