Open call for your thoughts: Who do you think is the saddest LoD Speaker at Council Meetings? Now just to level set things here, I suggest we only include on this list those 'tee-shirt wearing' LoD Speakers, so people like Jim Stucker <sp?> can't be included. I'm on the fence as to whether or not Lyman counts.
My vote: Nancy Krake I've written this before, but it really saddens me to hear Nancy speak at council meetings. Here is a decent person...I honestly believe this...who has somehow become this bitter, nasty, cynical lady. Yes, I suppose that part of the change could be layed at the feet of Mayor Doherty (the Mayor has been overly tough in some respects with the unions), but ultimately this one does squarely belong to Nancy. Why? Because we are all ultimately accountable for our own words and actions, Nancy Krake included. Blaming Doherty for Krake's state is like the teenage boy blaming his friends for making him go out drinking...sure the friends provided the opportunity, but the boy said yes and took the drink.

Do we have to stick to LOD speakers? You have to admit, there are many more that go there. My vote goes to either JoAnn Williams for her undying loyalty to the mayor and her track record of her being 99% wrong on her statements. Or......Jim Davis for his rants blaming everyone for not helping "his community" OR.......that Keeler guy who made a complete ass of himself because he had dealings with the city in his employ and was exposed for that on DD OR.... Judy Gatelli herself for her lies. Check out the thread at DD on her flip flop staements. It's amazing what difference a few months make as it relates to her agenda.
My vote goes to and I hate to agree with Shari ... you don't know how much ... that it should go to Jim Davis who does not seem to be able to tell the difference between City Businnes and School District Business.
When Mr. Davis wants to talk about a problem he is having getting help from the SSD he goes to a City Counicl Meeting ... and when he needs help with a City problem he goes to the SSD meetings ... he just doesn't get it that these are two entirely different governing bodies ...
I have been at both council meetings and school board meetings when he has done this and it has always baffled me as to why he would do this.

My first reaction was Fay Franus, simply because of the huge chip she carries on her shoulder for everyone else's cause and how she jumps with both feet onto everyone else's bandwagon - all in the name of misdirected righteousness. Stick to your animals, Fay. They need to hear your voice more than we do.
Shumaker always got up there and seemed to make a valid point or two. However, I changed my tune a few months ago when she had to bring in the LOaD prop department who taped her mouth shut with duct tape. That had to be the epitome of LOaD idiocy. No one was squashing her freedom of speech, no one was shutting her mouth. She really made an ass out of herself with that picture - and naturally, that same action made her an icon with the LOaDs across the hall.
After reading the comments so far, I'll risk being the master of the obvious and say that all of our candidates for saddest Doomer have one thing in common.
Fay -Foam at the mouth- Franus---Just a mean nasty angry woman. Please don't tell me she's married, if she is, Well I just can't imagine. I understand she's been this way long before city council, just ask the people who use to work with her.
Fay Franus! I swear, every time Fay is at the podium it's time for The Pilcheski Puppetshow! Starring: Fay Franus! Yaaaaay! Talk about Koolaid drinkers, wow.

It was hard for me to pick between Nancy Krake and Fay 'Foam @ the Mouth' Franus. Fay strikes me as the kind of lady who yells at kids for walking on her grass, complains about the noise outside, etc.; In other words, regardless of how old she actually is she is elderly...and nasty elderly at that. Hell, when I am retired I'm going to do my damn best to be more of a kid than I was when I actually was a kid (look out Railroad Avenue...there is some grass I plan on walking all over).
I agree with your Nancy Krake comments Art. Funny, but I remember when she told me that she got the job in City Hall years ago...she seemed so happy about it...now you wonder why she just doesn't quit if the job is so bad.

Fay was married ... but we don't really want to discuss that ...
I do know that Fay is someone who went to meetings long before the cameras were in the board room or council chambers ... she has always been aggressive in her ways when it comes to what she is passionate about ... She was the biggest foe to the building of the new high school ... she never missed a meeting that I can remember.
She has been going to council meetings for years also like I said long before the cameras were there ... even if they stopped televising the meetings ... I have no doubt in my mind that Faye would still be there.

I would have to say Lee Morgan. The man does not even live in Scranton but is obsessed with the Scranton City Council. He is so obsessed with them that he wanted to be one of them, now I dont know about you but I find that scary! How come hes not obsessed with his own council?

WIM ... Lee morgan is a good pick ... I didn't even think of him ... but I would have to say that Jim Davis is still my pick ... but Lee is a good second.

Lee Morgan is an interesting character in that he's a guy who (in my opinion) has a few ideas that he is passionate about but no real way of implementing them. His playground program is a good example...noble idea, but let's face it, he's about 30 years too late on that one. Personally I think the government shoudn't be taking care of children in the summer...I'd prefer less government and more parental responsibility for children's actions (especially in the summer).
To his credit he less psychotic that many others who speak at Council meetings (with a recent boost by Sam P., who has dramatically lowered the standards for everyone). To his detriment he seems to think that most people don't realize that his residency status is questionable at best, non-existant at worst.

Does Serene Stoker still speak at council? She was pretty sad back in the day...
IIRC, she wanted that little patch of Maple Street paved, between 81 and Wintermantle, an area that people barely walked much less would drive if given the opportunity. And I'm sure that would have solved a whole bunch of runoff problems, not created new ones. I could be a bit off on her beef, though. I haven't paid attention to that windbag in years.
She's what I would call a fair-weather council speaker. She only shows up when someone else has a similar gripe and she can add some fuel to the fire. She was extremely vocal when they were still harping about Hollow Avenue. I am not sure which block of Maple Street she was griping about, but she sure was pis$ed off that someone else got their trees cut instead of her.
Is it just me ... now I know this will sound bad ... but does anyone else think of the cowardly lion from the wizard of OZ when they see her ... or is it just me?
God forgive me for this post!

I do I do I do believe in spooks.... nah. She's a born and bred mountain girl - sasquatch is more like it. Heh - who am I to talk ... I'll be burning beside Lus.

Paul...I believe Ms. Serene's complaint was because she couldn't gain access to a piece of land she was paying taxes on...my memory isn't the greatest, but I beleive that is her issue.
As far as saddest Council speakers, for me it's a tie between two, even though neither are quote on quote "LOD'ers" I have to say two of the sorriest, saddest, sacks I've ever seen walk up to that podium have got to be JoAnne "Konsil" Williams, and Judy "What's my life threatining illness this month" Laske...Jimbu15.
Which one was painful Shari ... Judy Laske or Joanne Williams?
And Jimbu I do believe you are right about the Serene situation. She had inherited land from her father and would like to utilize this land but has no access to it. I thought she said she was going to hire a lawyer and sue the city? What ever became of that?

What does "no access" mean in her case? Is it surrounded by a moat full of alligators? Is it in Europe and she doesn't have a passport? Is it at the bottom of the sea?
It means the city didn't pave a road or place a sidewalk on the land to giver her easy access to the weed field. She wanted access to it, for what? So she could fail to maintain it? So she could park junk cars on it?
Jimbu, believe it or not I agree with you on Judy Laske. I don't recall the illness thing, but I do recall that it seemed like her children were in mortal jeopardy from something every week...lack of stop signs, wandering packs of feral dogs, vast Irish Catholic Network conspirators (okay, I made that last one up...but hey, some people actually believe in that IBM...errr ICN crap). The Laske family was redeemed somewhat though by Dick Laske (her father?) who actually used the word "Hunky"* during one of his speeches, which nearly caused me to fall off a chair laughing.
(*)A very old derogatory term for Hungarians used "back in the day" by miners.

"Hunky" is a derogatory term? You wouldn't know it from the 500 times I was called that during the primary campaign. I had a feeling they weren't referring to my stunning good looks and chiseled physique.
