Freak show/train wreck. Corbett is an a-hole, but he knows how to cater to an audience that will do anything for attention. He'll get no ratings by falling all over the dd.com goons, but the phones will always ring - that's good enough for him.

Corbett sure knows how to take up several hours a day on the radio without having anything to say, doesn't he?

I used that hour to watch some paint dry. There was a weed in my front yard that needed some watching, as well. It was SO much more productive.

It's bad enough that I have to be forced to watch his sorry ass at a council meeting while he's wearing his flashy gold jammies - I certainly won't volunteer to watch that gesticulating gasbag.

edited for typo - (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

Sam Pitilla charged with obstruction of a public meeting

I'm sorry but I do not agree with you. I was not at the meeting, but had the opprotunity to view it via channel 61.
Sam was told by Gatelli that he was out of order and that only seemed to fuel his fire. Sam was loud, aggressive and in my opinion was looking to push some buttons which was done.
Sam opened the door by his actions for city council to continue to claim, if they so choose to, that we feel threatened.
Sam opened the door to the police officers who are posted at the meetings.
I do not know Sam and I am not saying anything bad about his character, but his thoughtless act has it's consequences. It seems he has given the city a pretty good stance on why city council and the city council meetings should be protected.
Possible changes are in the air as a result of what happened last week, all it took was an incident like this to set the wheels in motion.
Sam is probably a good guy, but like we all do from time to time, he screwed up.

They're carrying on like the cell door has already been locked and the key thrown away.

In America, Fay, there is a little thing we call due process. At this point, he has merely been charged. No big deal. We could charge you with being a shoplifter, but we still need to go to trial and prove it. That's the next step.

If there's no plea deal (naturally, counsel for the defense Pilchesky will scoff at the idea of pleading out to a lesser charge), there will be a hearing. If he is found guilty, he faces a maximum of 1 year in jail. And I doubt that this case will get fast-tracked, no matter what color his skin is.

HOLY WORST CASE SCENARIO, BATTY-LADY! He's never getting a year in jail for this. If he gets a week, I'll be shocked. Assuming that he truly was a Marine until recently, guarding nuclear bombs or whatever, I imagine that his criminal record is blanker than the win column of Joe's legal career. This would make him a first time offender. He'll probably just get a short probation period and an anger management course or something, if he gets even THAT harsh of a sentence.

Put away the cross and the nails, Fay. This is not the martyr you're looking for.

Now Sam is comparing himself to Nelson Mandela.

Mandela went to prison for 27 years for taking up arms against the Apartheid government, and ultimately changing the course of government in a country that is now a democracy..

Sam got pissy at a council meeting and wouldn't step down when he was told to.

Big difference.

Shari and Jimbu ... what no opinion on the Patilla arrest ... what about poor Danny Hubbard? No opinions on these two hot heads????? I'm curious as to what you think.

Personally I think it's about time ... I'm glad that someone is finally making a stand against these bullies ... way to go!

Do I think however Sam should spend a year in Jail ... I think that may be a bit severe ... what do you guys and gals think?

I don't know the guy, but I saw the meeting. Sam and/or his attorney will make mincemeat out of them. Sam just hit the lottery because he did NOTHING wrong. Judy asked if he was threatening her. He wasn't and it's clearly on tapeand now there's a pattern of judy crying wolf. (lying)She's screwed again. But don't worry about your tax dollars. Doherty will pay Sam the....oh....500K through the insurance company.

Ummm....what meeting where you watching? Yes he did make a threat. I believe the phrase was something like deadly force will be used....I have too much of a life to actually record the meetings, but I'm sure that the police or the DA reviewed either a tape or a transcript somewhere along the way. In any case he isn't being charged with making a threat, he's being charged with obstruction of a public meeting. Sam's probably pretty scared since he subscribes to 'Janet math', afterall in her world one year could easily turn in to eight.

Sam broke the rules. It's simple; when the council president rules that you're out of order and asks you to step down you must.

I'm sorry that you guys don't like the rule, but it's that way in every city and every council in America. The council president has the right to rule someone out of order. Period.

Sam is a big boy. He chose to stay at the podium and now he's suffering the consequences for it. He's not a victim, he's a guy who made a foolish decision and now will have to defend that decision in court.

Welcome to the adult world kids. These aren't new rules invented for the LOD. They've always been the rules. If you don't understand or accept that and can't control yourself you should stay away from council meetings. If you attend and plan to become out of order be prepared to pay the penalty.

Review the tape boys. I did. Sam said and I quote after saying Doherty sent the cop. "If that's his rules of engagement so be it." He was then asked to step down twice because she said he was out of order. Clearly on the tape, we walked away. So much for being out of order. While he was leaving the room, A guy called him an "*******". According to all sources, he faced the guy who called him that and they had words. If that's a violation of the rules, I'd love to see them convict him of it. It's simply not going to happen. He'll win the case and proceed to sue Gatelli for inciting a false threat and he'll sue for discrimination for the city citing him and not "whitey" for causing the subsequent argument by calling him a nasty name. Besides, there is no law forbiding being loud and animated while speakingat a public meeting. The only thing I could see causing him a problem is calling Doherty "corrupt". But you see folks, that's been done before and nothings happened. If the shoe fits.....

Bottom line: he was ruled out of order and played a part in disrupting a public meeting. If he's innocent he'll prove it in court. If the evidence is as clear as you say he should have no problem winning. So what's the problem?

Let's not pretend for one minute that Sam wasn't pushing limits. Today he compared himself to nelson Mandela at dd.com. Nelson Mandela never denied taking up arms for the ACN against the apartheid government. He knew what he did was illegal, but he knew it was the right thing to do.

If Sam is an activist he needs stronger convictions. Standing up to the man then claiming you did nothing wrong is a lame activist in my book. Be a man Sam, own up and take your punishment or prove your innocence. Everything thing else between now and his court date is just masturbation.

Totally agree Art. We're going to get along just fine. Not much rhetoric from you. I like that. Actually I enjoyed your posts over there. You know when to admit your wrong and know when to fight when your right. You add in a little humor in the meantime. Nice quality in a guy.

Did I admit I was wrong? I don't remember that part, but OK.

Admit it, that place is like an AA meeting without me over there.

Hey I have recorded the meetings ... and I know I have a life ... just kidding ... I used to record them all of the time ... but I do believe that Channel 16 played the video blurb and it was quite threatening Shari ... I guess you see what you want to see ... I have to agree with Januts ...

By the way Januts welcome to PD ... please read and adhere to our rules ... and happy posting

Here we go even good old Mary Ann Wardell thinks he went over the line! I have to agree that I do think that they are being a bit harsh ... I'm not a fan of Sam but a year in jail ... a bit much ... a good stiff fine is in order though! That is just my opinion ... Everyone across the hall is blaming Charlie Newcomb ... but you know Charlie wanted to speak ... just because he says Sam was wrong and an idiot does not mean that he suddenly has pledged his loyalties to the Mayor and Judy Gatelli ... see how they are across the hall ... they think that if you show respect for an office then you are the person who holds the office supporter ... Not necessarily so ... One can make a good strong point in a civilized manner ... trust me I know this for sure ... it can be a strong point yet still be done respectfully!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I watched the meeting and I think that Sam did get a little carried away but I do not believe he should be arrested or charged with anything. The problem as I see it is that council shows no respect for citizens when they are speaking and pay no attention to what they are saying. This is very frustrating for people and when it happens week after week, you reach a point where you feel you must raise your voice loud enough for them to pay attention. As for Newcomb, he has certainly changed his attitude regarding the mayor and council. I wonder why? He was one of the most vocal opponents of the mayor and criticized every decision he made. He now seems to think that council and the mayor are doing things correctly and no one should object to how they are handling things.

Maryann Wardell is on to something in some ways...why remember back when Paul spoke at council and Janet Evans basically gave him the brush-off? In fact, didn't she leave when he was speaking, or was that someone else who she was going to object to?

ABOLISH JUNIOR COUNCIL

Why punish "ALL" of the kids, when it's My understanding that the Miller kid wasn't even elected president of junior council by the other members (kids).

If I may, what we have is the re-creation of the dohertystien monster occurring before our very eyes (only the attending doctor is named bolus) , if one were to take off the rose colored glasses they'd see he is being groomed (or fitted for his puppet strings) to seek office in this city somewhere down the line and those grooming him have neither his best interest nor those of the citizens of Scranton's at heart.

If he really has a love for politics, lets instead show him what happens to politicians that go astray.

1. We could sanction him by banning him from attending council meetings for 3 months as a result of his calling Adults animals.

2. We could introduce a motion that he be replaced/removed as junior council president for his constant disrespect of his elders and those who actually are "TAX PAYERS and or Property Owners.

3. We can sanction him for scratching out the name (s) of those listed on the Sign-In Sheet above his by reducing his alloted time at the microphone to 2 minutes.

As of yet, Doherty hasn't been sanctioned for violating the Home Rule Charter, the Sunshine Act nor the Laws of This Country, so lets teach young Miller the "Correct and Proper" way a Government should and "WILL" be run.

***** two things seem to be wrong with this poster, #1. we all know that Sam was cyberlion and his posts were often non-sense, now he signs in under his REal name, and his posts sound like that of our honorable(Ahem) councilwoman.

Can you imagine the outrage if Council* sanctioned Cyberlion similarly for his behavior at the podium last week?

(*Janet, when you give Sam ideas, be sure that he changes the wording a bit so that they appear to be his own thoughts. Council can sanction Miller, not "we" as in the general public, since "we" never elected the kid.)

Nelson Mandella ??? Please -- maybe Willie Nelson...

What the hell was Sam blathering on about how Doug Miller should be reprimanded for being a kid with an active political mind?? What the hell would Sam Patilla do if we 'sanctioned' him and did not allow HIM to attend council for three months or allow him to speak or made sure he left his gold plated jammies at home? And who the hell does he think he is making comments about someone else being a tax payer when he certainly IS NOT. The $hit would hit the fan on SO many levels. What a jackass.

Hey Willie Nelson - sitcher arse DOWN.

I was at the DD site and just read the Criminal complaint against Sam Patilla ... http://www.dohertydeceit.com/Criminalcharges.PDF This criminal police complaint does not say that Sam Patilla went to the May 31st meeting with the intent to disrupt the meeting ... what it clearly states is simply that when Mr. Patilla was told he was out of order he failed to stop acting out of order ... that seems to be pretty simple to me ... pretty cut and dry ... it states that he clearly caused alarm and annoyed city council members ... that seemed pretty evident when watching that meeting. It states that after being warned that he persisted in this behavior ... I think that pretty much says it all.
When he failed to stop acting out of order it was then that the intent was for disruption of a public meeting ... he was out of control plain and simple ... telling Mrs. Gatelli that the "Rules of Engagement" would apply ... I don't know about the rest of you ... but that is a threat to me. I saw this meeting ... and nobody threatened him. He took the presence of a police officer on a bike as a threat ... I think that people with nothing to hide ... that are living up to the laws ... would not be worried about a police officer on a bike outside of their home. And even if this officer were watching Sam Patilla ... so what ... if he wasn't doing anything wrong ... what the hell would it matter? But that's just my opinion!

I don't think that Sam would take it very well at all should he be told he could no longer attend council meetings and speak at them ... what really gets to me is all of this free speech that they claim everyone is entitled to ... the Doomers and the DD'ers ... (thats right Shari Lump Lump LUMP) ... but they deny it to anyone who says they are wrong ... and they don't seem to believe that young adults matter ... and that they should sit silently and be seen and not heard ...

I'm not really a fan of the Jr. Council ... but not for the reasons that most would think ... I just don't think that it's necessary for these young people to be abused (verbally) ... and to sit there and watch a blatent disregard for Public officials ... I just think that the examples that are being provided to these young adults is not the best and ... I really hate to think that the members of the Jr. Council could be led to believe that the way these people feel is the way the majority of the tax paying citizens of Scranton feel ... I just don't think it's a healthy environment for these young people.
