Posted across the hall are comments about possible changes to be made during council meetings and the television broadcasting of same.
Council has a point, in that having the cameras running during council meetings is playing to certain individuals fifteen minutes of fame. I agree with this. However (and it pains me to admit this), these whackjobs have the right to see themselves blathering, postulating, gesticulating, pandering and foaming at the mouth while at the podium.
But they do NOT need to see it live. Sure, run the cameras every Thursday night, but set the city council meetings to air on Channel 61 at a regularly scheduled time later in the week (just as they have been).
If this isn't good enough for them and if certain individuals are afraid of editing, well, then, let them make the choice and the commitment and arrangements to make their own tape of the meeting. Doesn't one of them bring a camera to the meetings anyway?
And let them apply for their own time slot at Channel 61 to play their very own tape. Can they find someone honest and trustworthy enough to complete this task on a weekly basis and follow through throughout the remainder of the week? What the hell - allow them to do it - let them make a$$es of themselves - let them interview each other - let them make a$$es of themselves - let them make their own YouTube videos - and their inner a$$holes will prevail on public access television. I am sure something like this will surely assist in helping all their political aspirations.
Give them enough rope to hang themselves. Joe doesn't seem to have enough to do anyway, what with only having to take picture of drilling rigs and file multiple 'lawsuites' and maintaining a message board and starting a newspaper and finishing that deck and ... what else ?
paraphrased from across the hall -- Paladin :::This is it. In every revolution there comes a moment when the time to strike is right--this is it. EVERY DAMN ONE OF YOU GO TONIGHT. Dress as well as you can to defang their comments. Remember Ghandi--he brought down the Birtish Empire with respectful, silent disobedience. Go Stand, speak gently with dignity, stay on point. The fate of 61 is in YOUR hands tonight. No lawsuit will bring it back. You better not shout, you better not poiut, act well. Arise Doomers, the moment is at hand.:::
Who the HELL do they think they are kidding? Now they are comparing themselves to Ghandi? Hmmm, 'speak gently with dignity, stay on point. The fate of 61 is in YOUR hands' ... well I'll be dipped in $hit - that's all it's going to take?
I say take the meetings off of TV. Everyone has thr ight to go and watch the meetings live if they so desire. Stop giving these buffoons their time in the spotlight and giving all cable subscribers in the Lackwanna and parts of Luzerne County thier weekly laugh.
How much of our city/county tax money funds this weekly comedy three-and-a-half hours anyway? I rssent that some of my hard-earned tax money may go to see buffoons like Lyman get up and rant about nothing on live TV.
I posted this over on MySpace last night. I've made similar posts here before:
The First Amendment is a quaint little argument, but it doesn't apply to Council meetings. According to our Home Rule Charter, "Reasonable opportunity shall be provided for citizens and taxpayers to address Council on agenda matters before a vote is taken. Procedures for citizens participation shall be determined by Council." The Constitution really has no bearing on these procedures. Nothing says that citizens participation can't be limited to typed, double spaced letters mailed to Council at least 3 days before the meeting. Speaking before Council is a privelige, not a right. When that privelige is abused, it can, and should be taken away. And there's not a thing anyone can do about it. It is not a violation of anyone's constitutional rights. There is neither an obligation for the cameras to be in chambers, nor a requirement that the meetings be taped for later viewing. Minutes are taken every meeting. The city clerk's journal is the only record that is legally required to be kept. Take the cameras out, and I'll bet the meetings flow a lot more smoothly, since the camera whores and attention mongers will no longer have such a visible forum.
Channel 61 was intended to give the citizens a glimpse of their government in action. The "Legion of Doom" has hijacked this intent to promote their own personal and political agenda. City Council is not to be viewed as a form of entertainment. Until it can be brought back to its intended purpose, the cameras should be removed and the second public input session should be severely limited and regulated.
Sorry to be posting one after another, but the LOD nutjobs probably serve to drive away many qualified would-be candidates from running for a council seat. Most sane people would not want to subject themselves to this idiocy, and to have DD straightjacket loons staling them and their families and rooting through their trash.

I know many people, at work and elsewhere, that do not live in Scranton but tune into the mettings, purely for the comic value. They laugh about Janet, Lyman, and the rest of the stooges with their LOD shirts. ANd most have the view, from watching these meetings, that theyn would never move to Scranton in a million years.
So, in some way, televised council meetings is helping to keep people out of Scranton, and probably serves to help drive some residents out.
It suprises me that Pilchesky and Evans don't see it this way. How can they think that their antics and bull$hit displays of lunacy are good for anything other than the demise of our fair city? These two instigators should be taken out to Milo's shed and flogged.
Speaking of Milo - is he buried under a drift of Valentines Day snow, or what? (Not that I miss him or anything.) Someone must have finally told him to can it.
paraphrased from the old man himself - ref televised council meetings
::: We'd be talking to ourselves, because neither Gatelli or Fanucci would know what we were saying to them. Lyman is right at Gatelli's level, how else would he have been able to get to her? Gatelli got chewed up by the frog in the pond, as we like to say. :::
He really stands by his own, doesn't he?? Lyman, in his idiocy, did the dirty work and the old man is trying to reap the rewards. Didn't one of us in a previous post/topic say the old man would do just that? And then throw the FROG under the bus...typical maneuver.
Well they had to cancel the meeting tonight because of threats from DD. It is getting out of hand when city gov't must be put on hold because of a group of bullies and nitwits. I would love to find out what some of these people do for a living and go and scrutinize their work.
Joe is really making himself into the biggest nusance in the area. I started thinking, well he is just a round head that has a lot of free time to now saying jesus christ enough already.
When the Anti-Irish rants of Anti started I could tell this was more than an political site. These are jealous people who feel slighted because they dont have all they want. They think that the prominant families in the area are stealing personally from them.
They attempt to make it all about the administration but I can see though it. I know plenty of people like this. Guys I grew up with pissed because they do not have a well know last name. That is who these people are. They are jealous of anyone doing better than themselves. They will never accept responsibility for it, but rather blame everyone else.
SHAME ON ALL OF THEM FOR ALL THE TROUBLE THEY ARE STARTING. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.
They are reaping what they have sewn. Good call on the part of Judy Gatelli. In fact, I'll send her an email telling her that before the evening is out. I've always said that the one thing that Bullies HATE is when people stand up to them. Well guess what...Judy has stood up to Pilchesky and his cabal of haters.

::: Remember the Ghandi movement and the Berkeley movement. Hundreds of people peaceably protesting. So if you have anything to say do it peacefully and with respect. :::
Remember those Hale-Bop followers? Maybe they will go THAT peacefully. Lace up those Nikes Janet. They all respect you and will follow your lead.
HAHAHAHAHA - but they could have been talking about a whole 'nother' subject, Paul. It might just be a whole misunderstanding - I think he said he was looking for "My Hat and My Ganja". You know how those people SUCK at spelling.
