copied from DD.. well oh well looks like Joe Gatelli just might win after all, especially when the DD crowd tells you not to vote for someone, and just exactly what are they soooo afraid of with Joe running, from what i know about Joe Gatelli, is that he has been a teacher for a very long time, but now for the life of me i cannot figure out why we would want to elect a teacher, to an important position as a school board member(sarcasm is dripping from my skin) lets just keep electing those who have not stepped into a school for 20 years, the schools and popu;ations have changed, and athe best people for school board members should be all teachers, i also know of mark brozoski and he is anaother candidate who is a good choice.
My My Bo you little sweetie-- you forgot to mention who the most important school board candidate is AND WHO NOT TO VOTE FOR Joe Gatelli!!!!!!! That is who we MUST keep our eyes on and make double--triple sure he does NOT sneak in there--We positively must finish this guy off-- The Gatellis must NEVER hold another office in Scranton-- Just wanted to make sure people know who NOT to vote for-- Thanks
I'm not really sure who else is running, but Joe Gatelli will get my vote for certain. The fact that his wife has pissed Pilchesky off to no end seals the deal in my book. Now if they actually get the court to sanction Pilchesky...well hell then I'll volunteer to hand out crap at the polls for the man.

Well Ag ... there sure are a lot of people running for School Board ... there are 5 seats up at this time and here is the list of people that are running for those five seats.
As listed in the Wednesday March 7, edition of the Scranton Times:
Mark Brozoski (D) Mark Dougher (D/R) Joseph X. Garvey (D) Joe Gatelli (D)* Daniel P. Keeler (D/R) Tom Gilbride (D) Meg Kelly (D) Joseph A. Matyjevich (D/R) James R. Minicozzi (D/R) Patrick Mitchell (D/R) Kathleen McGuigan (D/R) Paul McGloin Sr. (D) Carol Oleski (D/R) Patrick O'Malley (D/R)** Paul O'Malley (D)*** Todd O'Malley (D) Susan Patte (D) Christopher Phillips (D)****
*Mr. Gatelli, husband of City Council President Judy Gatelli. **Formerly on School Board ***Current Director of Facilities and Grounds for the Scranton School District. ****Worshiped by the DD gang and the LoD ... Joe Pilchesky must be very proud!
There are 18 people running for 5 seats ... Good luck to all candidates ... it's going to be quite the fight for those 5 seats. I have noticed that there are a lot of candidates who did not cross file ... that's goin to make for a more interesting race I think ... although a good majority of candidates are running as both Dem and Rep. I just personally don't agree with this practice and am glad to see that there are a few candidates who decided against this.
Like I said good luck to all ...

I'm sure I'll get the usual slew of comments about how I have to vote for this one or that one because they are a friend of somebody. Regardless, I know I can knock a few off the list right off the bat...
Jim Minnicozzi...while I deeply respect him for serving our country in the armed forces, I'll will NEVER FORGET his pandering to the Fay Frani of this world by opposing the construction of Scranton High School. That was a big, big mistake....the kind of mistake that I never forget.
Patrick O'Malley...he had a shot on the board and didn't seem to do much with it, other than use it as a spring-board to run for other offices. Don't get me wrong...he seems like a nice guy, but if you get a shot and don't do anything with it, then why get another?
Susan Patte...also seems like a nice person, but I can't point to anything she has done as a current board member and say "yes, because she did _____________ she should be re-elected".
I'm on the fence about Todd O'Malley...on one hand he is a trial lawyer (and he supported Gary DiBileo for mayer I believe...that's two strikes), but on the other he does seem to bring a certain professionalism to the board. As memory serves me correctly, he has also been an advocate for a stong anti-nepotism policy in the district, something that I think is needed.
So it looks like I've got four more choices to make, since Joe "it will really piss off the LoD he gets elected" Gatelli already has my vote.

I don't personally know ANY of the candidates. But I do have to say that Todd O'Malley is just taking up space, and he's an ambulance chaser. He's eliminated in my book. He gave away tons of our tax money to a wasteful project at Memorial Stadium, while our kids were using 30 year old textbooks and the elementary schools were overcrowded and/or crumbling.
Pat O'Malley seems like a good choice. The guy always puts on holiday parties for the city's kids ...many of whom would have no other chance to go and see Santa or the Easter Bunny. He seems to be a guy that might care about the kids, which is what we need on the SCHOOL board.
And as far as Minicozze and the Scranton High School, I do think that that building is a monument to the ineptitude of our school board. Why did they close one of our high schools, only to turn around a couple of years later and scream that we're overcrowded and need a new building? We should have kept three high schools open. Smaller schools and smaller class sizes are better for our kids, and enables more of them to be active in sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. I would never want my child going to a mega-school like SHS where the kids probably don't even know most of the kids in their class. Wilkes-Barre School District operates three high schools, and W-B's population is near half of Scranton's.
No offense to parents and students of SHS, but I'm glad I live in West Side. Actually, I'm from outside the city originally, and the only place in Scranton I was willing to move was West Side, for the schools. The elementary schools (especially Willard and Sumner) are among the best in the area, and the high school is a more normal size where my kids won't be one of 600 in their class. Plus, I just like the sense of community on this side of the river.
To an extent I agree with you on Todd O'Malley...hence my lawyer comment. The only lawyer I trust is my own. As for the new school, we will have to agree to disagree...but that's the great thing about this board...disagreements don't turn into petty-assed name calling.

RE: We need Dan Keeler and Paul McGloin on School Board (posted by peewee, moved from another post)
The son of John Keeler Sr. who works for Fidelity Bank. This kid is 29 yrs old. Word is that he is a an alcoholic. Fact. He also ran for council 2 yrs ago but pulled out when he got a bad spot on ticket. Fact. Find out the facts before writting about this and that. Paul Mcgloin is a Doherty hump all the way. Fact
(edited for typos)
OK so he's the son of John Keeler Sr. ... and that is bad why? Hey I like John Keeler ... I know him ... nice guy ... I don't have to agree with everything he says ... and here is just something to think about ... you can't pick your relatives ... because if you could I'm sure that ... oh say the Reverend Jim Jones's family may have picked someone else to be related to ... or Joe Pilchesky's family may have picked someone else to be related to. I'm just trying to make the point that we can't pick our relatives ... I don't think it's a bad thing to be related to John Keeler Sr.
OK he ran for council 2 years ago and dropped for lack of a good ballot position ... many candidates do that.
You pick it ******* ... it's either the word is which means that you heard from somebody ... who heard from somebody who know the guy ... or you have the facts to prove that this young man is an alcoholic ... which is it *******? I love when you use your Administrator member name ... it's so authoritative ... makes me believe every word you say .................. NOT!
I personally think that when you make a statement calling someone an alcoholic that you better be damn well prepared to back up that statement with proof ... but that's not something that you DD'ers expect from your leader.
Oh well another ramble ... another rant ... I apologize!
