I wonder how she did hurt that back? I can't imagine how it could be a work related injury ... it's got my mind boggled! And I have to add that I do hope that her Mom is ok ... but how about how they always slam Judy without knowing why she is not at a meeting ... but they ask for prayers and to keep Janet in our thoughts.
How come they didn't ask for a prayer for Mr. McGoff as I did hear that he is really sick and required hospitialization ... but no prayer request for him .... hmmmmmm

Hummmmmmmmmmmm Missy Jan is an English teacher......Missy Jan is her ederly, presumably not in great health, mom's primary care taker .....Missy Jan hurts her back......ya it probably happened at work while she was sitting down at a desk, not while she was attending to her mom....yup sure sounds like a comp case to me.
There are soldiers, blown up with with road side bombs.
After being rehabilitated and what we would call being disabled, are choosing to return to IRAQ. Their dedication to their beliefs governing all else. "GOD BLESS THEM."
I see that same determination in Ms. Evans. An honest person is an honest person. I really have faith that If Ms. Evans thought she could not serve the citizens, she would not play EGO games and withdraw from the race.
In my heart I truly believe what ever the outcome, Ms. Evens will attempt to prevent anything that would be detrimental to all citizens of Scranton.
Ok so she is back on the Dias tonight ... and I'm glad she's feeling up to being there ... what the hell is the button she is wearing though? I am hoping that it's not a campaign button ... because that would just be wrong!

Found these interesting posts on another local website. I highlighted the posters last comment at the end - I believe it shows Janet to just be another political hack - not the new messiah the doomers and dd faithful proclaim her to be.
Janet stole my idea!!!
Oh my God! I'm sitting here now watching the re-broadcast of the League of Women Voters' city council debate on Channel 61 on Comcast, and I nearly spit my juice all over the floor when incumbent city councilwoman Janet Evans, when asked about her ideas to capitalize upon the incoming Commonwealth Medical College in the Lower Hill neighborhood, stole an idea I pitched to city council back in 2007 for her benefit. I only ever approached the city council podium one time, as I didn't think I truly had any business being there as a non-resident of the city. However, my idea was what I deemed to be a very solid one to help the city in the long-term and deserved to be shared so I went up there to pitch it.
My proposal was for the University of Scranton and the city of Scranton to each pay 1/4 of a student's annual tuition bill in exchange for that student signing a contract promising to stay in the city of Scranton for "X" number of years after graduation to pay taxes, purchase homes, start their careers, raise families, etc. in a "pay-for-stay" sort of program. In this sense a student could only spend 1/2 as much as they'd normally pay to attend the University of Scranton, and the city would gain by having a progressively larger and larger proportion of its population being college-educated with each passing year, making it more feasible for better-paying employers to come here to tap that intellectual capital. I saw some drawbacks to this as well (with one being where would the city find the money to support this program and the other being an "ethical" one of should we be "bribing" people to live in Scranton), which is why I opted to not pursue it further after I pitched it. When I sent follow-up e-mails to council members introducing myself as that speaker only Judy Gatelli got back to me and offered to speak to me over lunch so she could learn more about what she thought was also a great idea. The other four, as has been the case with every e-mail I send, ignored me. I assumed then that Janet Evans had no interest in this idea either, which is why I was so angry to learn that she apparently made a mental note of my idea to pounce upon it for her own political gain in this election.
Granted if the idea IS implemented and benefits the city then I don't care WHO gets credit for coming up with the idea as my love for the city trumps my own pride, but talk about poor taste on Mrs. Evans's behalf to ignore my follow-up e-mail after that meeting and then pocket my idea to pass of as her own for an election-related pitch. Anyone who votes for this woman is just shooting the city in the foot, as she'll throw anyone under a bus to advance her own agenda. If I lived in the city I'd probably vote for Pat Rogan (I don't like the fact that he appears to be racist/homophobic but he's very intelligent and has some good ideas), Doug Miller (despite his youth he has an uncanny willingness to WANT to learn the ropes and to WANT to serve his city, and I find that to be admirable for an 18-year-old), and yes, I WOULD re-elect Judy Gatelli as well (despite what many on this forum think she has been the ONLY incumbent council member to ever be responsive to all of the ideas I pitch). I'm by no means a fan of Sherry Fanucci, Lee Morgan seems a bit scatter-brained, Joyce is obviously trying to ride the popularity of Mrs. Evans's coattails to victory, and after seeing Mrs. Evans take credit for a solid idea that I pitched I would never vote for her either.
Quote:
Ever wonder why she waited until an election year to bring it up rather than investigate the idea two years ago when it was apparently first brought up to her?
That's exactly my point. This was brought to council's attention in 2007 not only to the podium but also via e-mail, and the only council member to respond affirmatively was Judy Gatelli. If it was a good idea in her eyes back then, then why would she wait now for an idea she thought might have benefited the city? I came up with the idea on my own accord and then did some follow-up research using what I think was the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee (but my memory is fuzzy so I could be mistaken) as a case study. I pitched it. Even pitching what some may consider to be a BAD idea is better than pitching NO ideas, as is the case with 75% of council speakers. I probably had no business as a non-city resident being at the podium, but this was a very tame and very sparsely-attended summer meeting, so I wasn't "stealing time" from other people by any means.
What kind of politician would I be if someone brought what I thought to be a beneficial idea to my attention and then sat on it until it became politically advantageous for me to capitalize upon it?

I think that came from the City-Data site and if I had to guess who wrote it my guess would be Scranbarre ... he is a poster from Pittston but loves Scranton and eventually wants to end up living here ... Nobody on DD has ever come up with an idea to help resolve any of the city's problems ... however this poster comes up with ideas for Scranton all of the time.
Am I right Preacher?

Lus - you are 100% correct.

He had another good idea and he sent it to the council members ... and the only one who ever responded to him is Judy Gatelli ... This guy truly cares about Scranton ... but there are those on City Data who make fun of him and tell him that he is too young to know anything ... I do believe that Dan Hubbard constantly runs this poster into the ground ... him and another poster who follows Dan Hubbard like he is a god..

Editor: The purpose of this letter is to rescind the multiple accusations and negative remarks I have made at Scranton City Council meetings regarding Daron Northeast. The statements I made were misleading, malicious and without merit.
Among the false allegations I made toward Daron Northeast were:
I stated that Daron was “not in compliance” and that it “exploited loopholes” to get the company up and running. Daron Northeast followed the proper guidelines to start its manufacturing operations in the city of Scranton and did nothing to exploit the city or the zoning officials. Daron submitted all the proper applications and received all the appropriate approvals to begin its operations in 2003.
I also stated that Daron Northeast violated local zoning ordinances “30-some times.” I had and still have no basis for that accusation. To my knowledge, there is not one existing zoning ordinance being violated by Daron Northeast at this time.
I have accused the city administration of protecting Daron Northeast and lining its pockets as a result of that. I have no basis for that accusation whatsoever. Daron Northeast has followed all the proper channels and guidelines in establishing its business within the city limits.
My statements accusing Daron Northeast of causing “long-term lung damage” as a result of Daron’s operations and “operating illegally polluting the environment and killing residents” were made recklessly and without any merit. I have no reason to believe that these statements have any truth whatsoever.
For these reasons, I am hereby retracting the above statements that I have made about Daron Northeast.
DANIEL HUBBARD
SCRANTON
Editor’s note: Mr. Hubbard confirmed the submission of his letter is related to the settlement of a civil lawsuit brought against him by Daron Northeast.

None of this surprises me at all. As I've said before, I've known Janet for years. Actually, I went to college with her. I learned quite early in my acquaintence w/her to never discuss project ideas outside of class. This post brought to mind a day in which a few members of the class were having cofffee before class. One of the women in the group was talking of her analysis of a novel we were reading. She was livid when she heard Jan espousing this same analysis in class. Jan then sat back w/a Cheshire smirk & accepted the professor's accolades.
She hasn't changed. She thinks she's entitled to all the ovations.
Interesting story Penelope. While someone could argue that you are just "telling tales", when you add your story to the facts surrounding Janet's very questionable teaching appointment, it does seem to be in character with someone who will do whatever it takes to get ahead.

IOh my god! So did anyone get the robo call from Missy Jan asking for a republican write in ...it's funny but there is no mention of her running mates .... hmmmmmm ... very interesting.
And did anyone get the letter from Mr. Rogan .... I got one today .... hmmmmmm ... he asked for a vote for himself .... but never made mention of his running mates.
To quote the letter:
North Scranton Residents,
My name is Pat Roganand I am proud to be your Democratic candidate for Scranton City Council.
During the last six months, I have knocked on thousands of doors, and I have attended dozens of community events. I have listened to your concerns, and I understand the many problems that our city is facing.
If elected I will always put the needs of our hardworking residents above any otheres. I believe that Scranton deserves a City Council that is Hardworking, Honest and Respectful. If elected, I pledge to you that I will honor these three words.
For far to long, Our North Scranton neighborhoods have not had the representation that they deserve on City Counckl. If I am elected, I will work tirelessly to improve roads, improve snow removal, and to increase police patrols in North Scranton.
I thank you for your time, and I humbly ask you to vote for me, Pat Rogan on election day.
Sincerly,
Pat Rogan
P.S. Please spread the work of my candidacy to your family, friends and neighbors.
Now I put this question out there to Mr. Joyce ... do you feel a bit betrayed by your team mates???? what is going on I thought it was one for all and all for one ... they were supposed to be like the three muskateers ... so much for that ... and just one last thought to ponder here ... there is no I in team.

And here Lus, I really thought you were smart!. For once give credit where it is due. Campaigns are like chess games. Out smart the others. Ah why do I bother?
David ... I told you once and I will tell you again it matters not one little bit to me what you think of me.
Now I got a robo call with Janet asking for a vote ... no mention of her team mates ... and I got a letter from Rogan ... no mention of his team mates ... it happened ... so what in the fact that this occured makes me dumb ...
Joyce is the one they were going to leave out in the cold ... plain and simple.

If Janet is so popular and Chris Doherty is not, why then did they both receive approximately the same number of votes (per Channel 16 this morning, 8685 for Ms Evans, 8677 for Chris Doherty)? This election proves two things relative to the council race:
1. Scrantonians want some balance in government 2. Janet Evans can win in a crowded field
By the way David, how is her back? Has she returned to school yet? It must have been tough standing all day yesterday.

Lus. What in Gods name are you talking about? Each candidate did separate and personal mailings or calls. Each did seperate radio ads. Frank Joyce was one of the best workers we've seen. Those two young men were the eyes, ears and mouth for Janet as they knocked on over 10,000 doors in two months. TEN THOUSAND !!!!! I can't even imagine what the numbers would be if Janet actually campaigned. Don't knock any of the three because the loyalty they share in unbreakable. Give them credit because they worked as a team while fooling the competition into beleaving they were working down the middle. Honestly Lus, I respect you for your logic and your beliefs but don't presume to speak of something you know nothing about. Your girls lost. Your man won but actually lost. He probably has the next seven months to reach out to Janet and start to do the right thing for the citizens. If he doesn't I am quite sure this new council will show him how it's done. Thinking past all of that, I truely believe that the city will soon be better with Chris and Janet working together for the same goal. If not, Madam President won't be to blame. She has reached out to him twice before and got the door slammed in her face. It will work or everyone will lose. I believe that in my heart.
