You might want to read the language in her contract regarding the reason and justification for taking a sabatical, somehow I think the powers that be and certainly the taxpayers didn't envision teachers taking sabaticals for self serving reasons such as running for a political office thus allowing them to double dip at the taxpayers trough oink! oink!

 LOL I get it fine I think you might be a bit confused though :)) To help you out and of course to inform others, I pasted below the definitive explanation for a teacher sabatical.*** You know it is funny but running for office to stroke ones own ego doesn't seem to appear there.

Earned it?  I am so glad your brought that up could possibly do us a favor? We would love to see a list of the legislation that she has brought forward, has had passed,  please include when it was implemented and the postive outcome it produced for the city in the two terms she has sat in her seat.  If it is a long list feel free to condense it down to its essential components for brevity and convenience. :)

IHave, she started the fad for Louis V satchels, and those fancy frappa cappa carmel chinos she slurps on during meetings, and for the ever-popular 55-gallon drum of Miss Clairol #8 ... Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Well, now actually she did fess up to making a few dozen phone calls to the mayors office. And didn't she show up demanding an audience at Doherty's office, a la Puff Daddy with her entourage in tow? Oh, oh oh ... and didn't she give etiquette lessons to grandma a while back? And she and her husband "dave tomko evans" most certainly entertained pilcheski and the missus at their home a time or two (and elsewhere sans her hubby and his missus winkwink) Do I have proof? In the words of a famous dd scholar of the afr-am persuasion - Hayell No Fo Schizzle.

She's a busy little bee our janet, but any kind of LEGISLATION ??? not so much ...

it does not surprise me at all Ducky as there have always been different rules applied to Mrs. Evans than there have been to any other sitting council members as far as Joe Pilchesky and the kids across the hall are concerned.

You missed the point of the post David.

I don't think any of us think less of Janet Evans because she missed a konsil meeting or two...hell, speaking for myself, I wish she would miss more meetings.  The issue is that your friends at DD would beat the snot out of Judy and Sherry if either missed two meeting in a row.  It's the double standard of it all...get it now?

As for your (or her) mom, I hope she feels better.

I was thinking about this post ... and I only have a few comments to make to you David concerning it.

Although I am sorry that your family has been ill, and I certainly am quite saddened to hear that Janet's mom is not doing well and needed to be hospitialized.

I certainly have no sympathy for someone who blew thoughtlessly through all of their sick and personal time.  Janet has quite a few years with the District and should have been able to accumulate days ... but it seems to me that she took quite a few days off so it is her own fault that over her years with the District that she is now going with days off without pay ... don't go looking for sympathy for her wasteful use of time.  And did you know that the District will allow her to borrow time. 

I have been with the School District for many years and when my father was ill and I made a choice to spend my time with him because he only had a very short time to live, so I do unerstand Janet wanting to spend time with her mother.  I had enough days to cover my time off ... why because I didn't waste it that is why.  Oh and I spent over 2 months away from work and still had plenty of days left in case I myself became ill.  Which did happen ... and I still have plenty of time left ... I have experienced several surgeries, a bout with cancer, the death of my mother from a lenghty illness and still have never taken a day without pay ... go figure!

To be fair to her students maybe she should look into a FMLA leave which is to care for family members or an individual who may be too ill to work, she would not be paid however it is 12 weeks off with healthcare ... and it would be 12 weeks that her students would have stability in the classroom.

Now I know she became a department head due to the fact that she is the senior teacher in her department, but it is my opinion that they should look also into the work ethic and record of these people before they are given the position of Department head.  If the Head of the Department isn't at work then what is the justification of keeping them in that position and is it really fair to the other teachers to have someone in charge who is never at work  I say this if she does not need to work then why not retire and give the job to someone who needs it? Someone who will at the very least show up for work on a daily basis!

I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who is taking time off from work with out pay ... so you are barking up the wrong tree with this post. 

 

David is strangely silent when you actually point things out to him that he may be uncomfortable with/does not know.  Maybe we should just assume that is his version of "yeah, you're right".

In related Janet news, I finally saw her jumbo campaign poster at Moosic Street/Harrsion Avenue.  Glad to see that the picture has been moved forward 20 years & I don't recall the "Tomko" name inserted anywhere.  New strategy?  Here's another new strategy she should employ during konsil meetings:  speak .......... more .......... than .......... two  ......... words .......... a .............. minute.
