Joe the legal expert is encouraging public safety unions to strike.  Great job Joe, will you be proud of yourself if a tragedy happens during this strike??  What is a house burns down with someone in it????

Quote | ReplyDoherty appeals will open doors to cops and fireman strikes

The appeals filed by Mayor Doherty relating to the contracts for the fire and police unions will open the door wide for both city unions to strike if he's successful. They've been without a contract since 02. The binding arbitrations between the unions and Doherty were appealed, but the controversy enters the picture because Act 111, a law voted upon by the citizens of the state, forbids striking in exchange for the city negotiating in good faith. In this situation, Doherty failed to act in good faith. The arbitrator ruled pursuant to Act 111 in favor of terms fair to both sides, in order to provide new contracts, and that's what Doherty appealed. Doherty argued in his appeal that Act 111 was negated when Act 47, the Distressed City Act, took over Scranton's financial future. However, as pointed to me by those most affected by Doherty's appeal, Act 47 has no "No strike Clause". Hence, if Doherty wins the appeal, then Act 47 and the Recovery Plan trump Act 111 and strikes are then automatically a viable negotiating tool for the unions. Makes complete sense any way you look at it. You can't have it both ways.

What Doherty has managed to do is upset all of the unions and my source, a very credible source, is telling me that the day that the Court overturns the binding arbitration awards, if it does, the unions are going to announce a strike to recover from being forced to work with no contract for 5 years,

BOTH OF THEM, FIRE AND POLICE

Careful what you wish for. Doherty is a loser any way this court case goes, no matter what. Our fearless leader will have us in fear if the unions are forced by him to strike.

posted in that thread and in a calm manner tried to explain how the people of scranton would be pissed at the cops and firemen not the mayor.  What i wanted to say was the bull**** union maniacs that would actully go as far as putting lives at risk simply to get what they want is why most people think unions are a bad thing.  I understand that they are good if you in are one because they offer a collective voice to make sure you dont get screwed over , but as one of the posters metioned, ( Paraphrasing) we just work slower untill the point gets across and we get what we want.  Pricks like that are the same ones that complain that "Mexicans" are talking are jobs.

Maybe i am harsh but i really have a dislike for the Jimmy Hoffa type.  They only cause headaches and they are typically only in it for themselves.   Not the common man.

On page 4 of the Smoking Ban Lawsuit thread, we have Wondering post the following:

I call the Dept of Public Safety they tell me to call the Dept of Licening, Health Inspection,  I call them they say they have no idea what is going on and sent me back down to the Dept of Public Safety, I called 911 they say call the inspectors office. Its a pretty screwed up situation.  All I wanted was some simple information no one can give it to me. (emphasis mine)

What the holy hell?  Didn't anyone ever teach you that you only call 911 in the event of an emergency?!?  This god damned smoking ban IS NOT AN EMERGENCY!!!  Get the fck over it already.  If it's illegal, it'll be overturned.  Jesus Christ, just when we thing that you've gotten as stupid as you can get, you go ahead and post this.  Get the hell out of the gene pool, dumbass.

I agree anonymous....union THUG tactics do nothing but harm the organized labor movement in this country. The way for unions to be successful is for them to win based on the logic of their arguments and their strong desire to make life better for working people, not in resorting to 'lowest common denominator' behavior. In the end, winning at any cost is sometimes TOO EXPENSIVE. Unfortunately this lesson seems to be lost on Ms Stulgis, Ms Krake and Mr Gervasi.
