Darth, You sound like a very self centered person. When all you are doing is complaining about your Mother getting a free ride. YOu will complain about anyone. You should be happy your MoM is getting a few extra dollars to see her through. You say you have to pay for your wifes insurance, Don't you think your father paid for your MoM and you through the years somehow? How are you going to feel when your children blame you for all the money Doherty spent fooishly and they have to pay it? I do realize what side of the track you are coming from. But use your Mother for an example? Sorry Bud, I just hope somewhere down the road you won't be sorry. If you want to complain use a neighbor or someone else, but your MoM ? It is bad when you start using your MoM as a target of a free ride. When all these polititions are raking in a *ell of a lot more. Be happy as you say free ride for your Mother. One day you may just wish you had a Mother to take a free ride.
__________________ A government for all the people, not just "Those who matter." Granma ... I think you missed the point of what Darth Art was trying to say ... I do not think he was complaining about his mother getting a free ride ... he was just stating a fact that his mother is getting a free ride ... and that she more than likely is not the only one ... therefore the cost of health care is rising as the people who are getting a free ride get older and incur more medical bills ... I don't think that he is complaining about what his mother gets so much as saying that the people that are getting the free ride are a big part of the problem. This is not something that Makes Darth Art a self centered person ... it makes him a realist ... someone who knows what the problem is and knows that his loved one is not intentionally contributing to the problem but contributing nonetheless ... do you understand Granny?
Here is the thing ... the point that Art is trying to make (I think) ... you are all claiming that over the years you have not gotten raises ... your right you have not ... you claim that you now have inferior health care ... Aetna is a very good plan ... I know people who work for the city that love it ... never denied anything under Aetna ... so it's not inferior ... it could be said that it's pretty much equal to the Access PPO under Blue Cross Blue Shield. The problem is this ... the city pays a huge portion of your health care ... and you pay a small portion ... over the years health care costs have risen dramatically ... so even though you did not get a raise in salary the fact is that your health care costs have more than likely skyrocketed ... I know that they have everywhere else. This is something that was negotiated into contracts past and there is nothing that can be done about it (and I don't think that anyone is suggesting that we try and stop the practice for those people) but that we should learn from the mistakes of the past ... that's all ... I think I have confused myself ... so let me know if this did not make sense Art ... or if I am wrong.

Yep, that's what I'm saying. It's not about my mom getting a free ride - it's me admitting that the system has gone too far. That doesn't make me a bad son. Both of my parents are smart enough to know and understand that they are receiving benefits that are unlike anyone in the real world gets today.
My dad is the first to say unions (of which he was a member of) ran this city for years. Now the bills have come due.
Art that's what I thought I understood you to be saying in your posts ... finnaly comprehension skills .... sometimes it takes me a while but I got it.
