You posted over on the old man's site: "Amil the a$$ says people don't want to walk thru a 'cloud of smoke' at the mall and other buildings...LOLOL. What the hell mall is he talking about? You have not been allowed to smoke in a mall for years. What a joke!"
Go back and read the article again. I'll wait......
What he actually said was "The ban is so people don’t have to walk through a cloud of smoke if they want to go to malls and other buildings." He is referring to the people who smoke outside of the malls and other buildings, but right at the doors, thereby creating a bit of a "cloud of smoke" at the entrance that people have "to walk through" if they want "to go to malls and other buildings". Get it? See how easy it is when you break it down? This is where the 20 foot radius comes from. Nowhere in any article does it show that anyone is under the impression that you can still smoke inside of malls, or in elevators, or libraries, or grocery stores, etc.
When you want to ridicule someone's quote, at least have the courtesy to get said quote correct.
It irritates me to no end when ignorant smokers smoke right next to a building entrance. One place where that is really prevalent is the entrace to the Bon-Ton at the Steamtown Mall on the roof of the parking garage. The store employees and whoever else seem to think its fine to sit on the steps leading down to that door, forcing people to walk through a smokescreen just to get into the mall....including those with babies and small children. My son has asthma, and I shouldn't have to risk my child's health just because some ignorant carcinogen-sucker doesn't have to drag their lazy arse somewhere else to suck down their poison.
That was a typical DD response from Newgirl. I would bet that most of them over there are smokers. Smoking and lack of education go hand-in-hand.
I respectfully disagree with your last sentence. I'll be making yet another attempt to quit very shortly. While smoking is a stupid thing to do, given what we know, to equate smoking with a lack of education is a bad generalization to make.
I think they demonstrate a lack of education because they follow the old man. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Well maybe I should rephrase that. A lot of people who aren't necessarily dumb or uneducated pick up smoking, especially in their younger days. I'm a former smoker myself, a bad habit I picked up in college...used to bum them off friends when going out, eventually snowballed into an addiction...but I never "planned" on smoking forever, it was just a hard addiction to quit. I wasn't able to get up the will power to quit until my wife was pregnant with our first child. haven't looked back since. I should have said that people who just keep smoking with no intent to quit ever, and are ignorant about imposing their habit on others (especially children) are uneducated. Its shocks me how many people I see smoking around children. Even when I was a smoker I wasn't that ignorant. You see people with a baby in one arm and a cigarette in their other hand, I have to wonder where they were when brains were being handed out, or people who smoke in cars with kids...that burns me up. If an adult smokes, fine, they shouldn't impose it on a child who has no choice to leave.
Anyways...they do say that ex-smokers make the most rabid anti-smokers, and I believe it. I hate smoking. I can smell a cigarette a mile away and the smell of cigarette smoke turns my stomach. I hate smoking so much because I know the grip of the addiction, and how hard it is to quit despite wanting to kick the habit.

Although...there is truth to the fact that the lower one's education, the more likely they are to be a smoker. Not all smokers are uneducated dummies, but most uneducated dummies are smokers.
The Viewmont Mall is a great example of why a ban is needed...walking in through the main and foodcourt entrances you have to pass through the smoking clouds just about every time. I end up holding my breath, as I really can't stand the smell.
As for smoking and education, I agree with Paul...I know some very bright people who smoked, are trying to quit or still smoke. To the letter though those that do still smoke really wish that they never started. All of us make bad choices in life from time to time...our hope is that these bad choices don't end up killing us.
Speaking of killing us, there was a letter to the editor in this morning's Scranton Times whereby the writer basically dared the public to name a single bar-tender who died of lung cancer. The letter made me sick to my stomach. No, I can not name a bartender with lung cancer, BUT I CAN name a waitress at a local restaurant who also works for the School District that at this very moment is fighting a loosing battle against lung cancer. She never smoked, but her part-time waitress job was at a restaurant that allows smoking.

I just read that letter, too. I'd be shocked that people could be that dense, but I've read the old man's site. Ignorant and oversimplified opinions like our Mr. Griffin's no longer suprise me. Just because I don't know anyone who's been to the moon, doesn't mean that no one has. What an incredibly weak argument he offers up. Must be the old man's legal advisor.
Sam, I was just giving you a hard time. But, you can also say that the lower one's education, the more likely one is to shove crayons up their nose. Some of the dumbest people I know have never smoked a single cigarette, while some of the more intelligent ones chain smoke. One really has nothing to do with the other, in my opinion.
Could this smoking ban be the biggest story to hit DD and the city of Scranton ... seems like that's what they love to talk about over at DD ... they are blaming the Council and the Mayor for this ban ... but as I recall a group of young citizens came forward and asked them to consider banning smoking in the City of Scranton ... they researched this ... worked hard on the presentation to Council and then made a professional presentation ... these were the children who under normal circumstances are never heard ... finally they have a voice ... someone actually listened to them ... they made a difference in local government ... isn't this what we try to encourage ... citizens to come forward ... and present an idea ... and hopefully if it's a good idea (as this one is) ... then it will be considered by the Council and the Mayor and it was ... and now it's an ordinance ... we should applaud the children for doing something good ... for using the system in the way it was intended to be used ... I for one (a smoker) am quite proud of the efforts these young citizens put into this and even prouder of them for accomplishing their goal! ... the LoD is upset with this because they have been going about things in such a vile and disgusting way and accomplishing nothing for years ... and these children came in and were successful on their first try ... and why is that ... because they were prepared.
My opinion on this is it is just another excuse for Joey P. to enjoy his hobby ... I wish he would just go to law school already ... Joey if you do that you could be the lawyer for all of you and represent them for all of their legal needs ... then you could stop wasting tax dollars on your frivolous lawsuits ... think about it my friend ... I think you could turn your hobby into a career ... what do you think?
And by the way I don't feel that smoking in anyway has lowered my IQ ... but that's just my opinion ... other's may disagree and that's OK!
