TOPIC: Take a poll and share your opinion ... What is Scranton's greatest obstacle?
Which of the following do you believe is Scranton's greatest obstacle? [6 vote(s)]
Lack of cross-governmental cooperation. By this I mean cooperation between the Scranton School District and the City Administration, as well as with other local municipalities. We need to think about ways to make government smaller and more efficient. A p

Attitude...but this is getting better. I was working with a group of newly hired employees last week at the office and I mentioned that I lived in Scranton. Now these are all people who are mostly in their mid-twenties, and to the letter all commented on

Lack of Labor Progress. The dirty little secret of Scranton's government is that the vast majority of the citys costs are labor-related and the majority of those costs are tied up in union contracts. Until efficiencies are built into these contracts to d

The Circus that is Citizens Participation. Don't get me wrong...I think people should be allowed to speak at City Council meetings. Furthermore, all of their comments, no matter how inane, insane or just plain bizarre should be included in a public recor

Thanks for setting up the poll Lus, although there are dozens of things obstacles facing Scranton these days. Besides, it gave me the perfect excuse to ramble on about City Council meetings, which really are a disgrace. I go to Iowa on business a few times a year, and the city that I stay in, Dubuque, also televises it's city council meetings. Guess what? There is no Iowa vesion of Les Spindler, no midwest accented verison of Fay Franus foaming at the mouth, no Ray Lymon complaining about letters he probably sent to himself. In short, the meetings are pretty boring...but that's what they are supposed to be, not some governmental version of the Springer show.

Your welcome Ag ... I like putting up polls ... so anytime you want one ... feel free to attach one to your topic. And I would hope that we are a rare situation with our City Council Players ... I just couldn't imagine people acting in this manner all over the country ... I am still thinking that if the writer for the office ever get wind of this bunch ... well they will be incorporated into an episode ...
