I see the poster who purports to be Mary Ann Wardell is still posting on the hate filled DD board. Uhhhhhhhhhh MAW?? Maybe they didn't tell you but you lost your run for office. I hate to break it to you but your idea of how council should perform didn't appeal to the voting public so.......... Give it up already!!
Hey, c'mon now! When Doherty leaves for his state job, Little Miss Jan is gonna get his seat, and someone is gonna have to take Jan's seat. Mary Ann anyone? So she HAS to keep campaigning, and keep the moonies on her side...I mean, that's 5 extra votes!!!
Yet another example of how low some people will go to further their own ambitions.
Years ago she seemed fairly reasonable. In fact, when Mayor Doherty was on council, she would more often than not agree with him on some of the larger issues. Of course now she has that fringe, hate-mongering constituency to play to, and she seems to be working hard to fill the role.
Note to Ms Wardell: For every one DD/LoD crew memeber you please with your anti-Doherty rhetoric you probably turn off five of us normal folks who happen to like the mayor. Stop pandering to the fringe.

I believe if the Mayor left that his seat would then go to the President of Council ... so Jan would not be the person to get the seat ... Mary Ann couldn't win the seat before becoming a card holding member of the LoD. What makes her think she will do any better now ...

It seems that everyone who posts over there gets delusions of grandeur, so it would not surprise me if she ran again! Also, I thought anyone from council could grab the Mayor's seat. Am I wrong?
That I would have to check on Dill, I thought that council president would move up if the mayor were not able to finish his term of office ... but I could be wrong. I guess we can check the home rule charter or the Administrative code for that information.

Ok Dill the information that we are looking for can be found in the Administrative Code of the City of Scranton.
Here we go:
Section 304. Vacancy in Office of Mayor. If a vacancy occurs in the Office of Mayor, the City Council shall fill such vacancy, within thirty (30) days thereafter, by choosing a Mayor, to serve for the portion of the unexpired term.
If by reason of a tie vote or otherwise, a vacancy in the Office of Mayor shall not have been filled by Council within the time as limited herein, the Court of Common Pleas, upon petition of the (10) or more qualified electors, shall fill such vacancy by the appointment of a more qualified person for the portion of the unexpired term as herein provided.
Until such time as either Council or the Court fills a vacancy in the Office of the Mayor, the Council President shall serve as acting Mayor and shall possess all the rights, perform all the duties and exercise all the powers thereof.
Well Dill it seems as though we are all wrong ... the Council President does not automatically get the position. The President will become acting Mayor ... until a new mayor is appointed ... it could be the Council President but seems that it is not the right of council president to become mayor when the city is absent a mayor.
