I haven;t been posting there anyone, even though I did post on the old site and I'll tell you why. I believe his site started out as a bunch of people concerned about the direction this city is heading in, especially as far as finances and public safety are concerned (of course there are the people that are most likely just angry disgruntled city employees, but thats for another discussion I guess). But lately his site seems to have evolved into something that is just way too vindictive and vulgar...personally I don't care about Judy Gatelli's kids, or where Sara Hailstone likes to drink latte, or what kind of car someone may drive, etc. Its evolving from a serious political discussion into as some may say a "sideshow." There also seems to be a lot more tinfoil-hat wearing people on that site...evidenced by posters that think that Louie DeNaples and Chris Doherty shut down the Chumster site, which is operated in England. That theory alone really made me shake my head.
And there was always promised some "bombshell" of information that was just going to take down Doherty, DeNaples, the U of S, and bring about world peace and have the "ICN" in jail cells in one fell swoop. Despite all these comments about all of this ino coming out soon, still nothing.....
Don't get me wrong, I do think this city is heading in the wrong direction. Public safety needs to be addressed, BIG TIME. There can be no more turning a blind eye to the gang/drug problem in this city. Because all the downtown revitalization and infrastructure projects are meaningless if this city becomes a crime-infested slum full of crackhouses and gunfire. Also, I think that any money spent on economic development/infrastructure needs to be done within reason...i.e.: not running up a ton of debt that will lead to tax increases. This city is already overtaxed and the reason that people are moving out and not moving in to Scranton is the wage tax (and mercantile taxes for businesses).
But, enough is enough.....the negative atmosphere is wearing thin..
Well written post...thanks for sharing your thoughts. You raise more than a few good points....for example, I also agree that the city is over-taxed. We may differ on how to solve that problem, but that's okay. Forums like than can help people bridge differences by encouraging civil discourse.
As for DD, I read the thread on Chumster being down, and I so wanted to post the following:

but alas, I just can't get myself to post over there. The whole 'evil empire/ICN' thing just plain creeps me out. Besides, all it would take would be one reply from Granma and I'd end up writing some tirade that would just get me banned anyway. Besides, life is too short to be swimming in a cespool of negativity anyway.
Anyway, I'd strongly encourage you to consider posting here on a regular basis. We don't tolerate the vulgar name-calling you see at DD. Yes, most of us think that the mayor is doing a good job, but hey, no one will knock you if you feel differently.

Today should have been a big day for posts at DD what with Janet making the front page ... but since the got loose they just aren't posting like they used to ... and I thought more people would come to Janet's defense ... She should resign ... yes she should ... but we will never be lucky enough for her to do the right thing ... she was stupid enough to put her words in and e-mail ... that's not the fault of her colleague's it's the fault of herself. DD'ers can blame who ever they want ... but the blonde hair is on her pretty little head ... she can't help it if she's dumb. We will not foot the bill for lawsuits that are suggested by our council members and I think Janet should foot that bill ... what say ye?
With so many other problems in the city Smoke is her biggest gripe ... she's not worried about the damn budget ... she's worried about that ****tail on a Friday night at Whistles and not being able to have a smoke to go with it! Self serving that is what she is ... that's what she was when she ran for School Director ... she did that to secure herself a seat behind the teacher's desk ... but she is honorable ... yeah that's real upstanding isn't it ... let me use this political position to secure a teaching position for myself ... nice ... but don't let anyone else in the world do that because then it would be wrong ... you know what I mean? are not on this site and well you may get some sympathy from one or two here I think the majority of us know exactly what you are all about Jan ... I guess all the 'normal' posters went on about their lives as soon as they realized that Marblehead's Don Quixote-like charging at the windmills wasn't adding up to a hill of beans. And I think that Art got too busy to register all his aliases at Marblehead's new site!
Just so you know I sent an e-mail to Art to let him know we were back and he wrote back to me and said that he is very busy at work ... so if you are worried about him ... he's ok ... and I'm sure that he hasn't registered all of his names yet ... I think Milo is a hurting puppy in terms of traffic at his board. It kind of reminds me of a really bad 70's sitcom spin-off...you know, where you had a successful show and then you take some lessor character(s) and try and build a new show around them. Faye has been getting away with this behavior for years ... she used to attend all of the School Board meetings ... and they have that same rule ... so she knows how things should be run ... it's about time this rule is enforced at council meetings ... maybe now they will move along swiftly with less problems ... this should also help cut down on some council members taking most of the speakers 5 minutes with responses that should be held until the speaker is finished. But anyway Faye knows the rules she has known them for years but she is basically about the drama ...

I missed the rant by Ms Franus on Thursday evening, as I had been out of town. Having seen it this morning, two things come to mind:
1. Kudos to Judy Gatelli for having her taken off the podium. 2. She once again proved that with the hate-mongers, it's more about them than it ever is about Scranton.
Specific to point #2, how pray tell does standing at a podium in Council Chambers and foaming at the mouth solve a single problem? How does belittling Mr McGoff better the city?
Logic, reasoning, civil discourse...all seem to be alien concepts to the DD/LoD crowd. I know, I can hear the whinning now..."but the mayor ignores our beloved Janet"...well guess what, based on what Janet Evans CONDONES and ENCOURAGES at the DD board, I WOULDN'T TALK TO HER EITHER.

Ok ... so Janet is often ignored by the Mayor ... is that right probably not ... but if she took a different apporach when dealing with him and other officials maybe she would get further in discussions with them ... Hell how many of us want to be talked to like we are 2 year olds, and that's exactly what she does ... talks down to these people as though she is better than they are.
Mrs. Evans behaves the same way at school, at least in my opinion, she speaks when she needs something from you ... but if she needs nothing ... she is ... less than friendly ... when she is looking for your vote however ... man she just falls all over you ... but if you are someone who dares to disagree with her ... you are then nothing in her book. Not worth even saying hello to. That's the way I see her ... that's my experience dealing with her ... and I think that now ... what she gives out ... is coming back to bite her in the ass ... you get as good as you give ...
By the way watch her sometime ... and this is just an observation ... if she agrees with a speaker she stays and listens to what they have to say ... if she seems to not know the speaker ... or if the speaker is going in a direction she really does not like ... she walks out of the room ... I know this from when I spoke at council ... she got up and walked right out of the room! Didn't care what I had to say ... and the issue I was addressing was a very serious issue ... but and here is the thing ... I was on the wrong side of the political fence for her. So my "little problem" (her opinion) probably was not important enough for someone like me ... a person who would not jump on her little save the city bandwagon. :scared: I did not see the city being in the iminent danger that she was trying to protect us all from ... I did not see Mayor Doherty as the evil dooer that they portrayed him to be ... I actually though he was (and is) doing a good job. I liked that I could see what my tax dollars were going towards for the first time. I saw real changes. I told her that she didn't like it.
I didn't start this place because I'm a DoooBeee though ... I started this when the McTiernan situation started and the Gatelli attacks ... When Lesh's divorce papers ... along with other's divorce papers were posted on the Web for the world to see ... I spoke out against that at DD and well ... I was for being a free thinker. I couldn't then and never will be able to be a .
Jan by the way does not seem to think there is a thing wrong with that ... she doesn't have time to worry about such things ... I started this place becuase when I spoke out at a meeting I was not heard and I spoke with a reason behind my words and they had meaning and purpose ... but the then council didn't listen ... and the LoD ... well they were very creepy to be around for that evening ... they don't like it when new people show up ... they whisper and not quietly ... you can hear them ... they want to know who you are ... what side your on ... and why are you there .... they are crazy They do not welcome you ...

That pretty much sums up how I try and manage my life. Note I said 'manage', because I am in no way going to claim that this is how I actually live my life...I often fail to live up to my own lofty values, but that's okay. Unlike Janet Evans, I can however look into a mirror and see someone who has NOT been a party to attacks on the families of elected officials (or anyone else for that matter). Ms Evans doesn't have the privilege of being able to make a similar claim.
I highly suggest that Ms Evans heed the words of Gandhi...her words, her behaviors, her actions...are fast becoming her destiny. She can cloak it all in a blanket of "I am doing it for the city", but outside of a few self-serving union presidents and a few city council regulars, NO ONE ELSE is buying it.
Enjoy your fame now Ms Evans, as it will be short lived and one day you will have to confront the scariest thing of all: your conscience.
