The perennial political punching bag announced he was running for county controller (with no ideas or platform, but I assumed something would be coming), so I was content to sit back and vote for what seemed like the only option to rid myself of Ken McDowell.
Now he's planning something for commissioner. Mayor, council, school board, county controller, state senator, commissioner...
Does anybody have a real (and serious) suggestion for what I should do? A Mellow/McDowell showdown would be devastating, as that would seem to drag the race down to its lowest common denominator and leave the office to two people who have no interest in utilizing its strengths and/or improving its functions.
Do you actually believe Joanne Pilchesky is going to serve this sentence? I was always under the impression that once convicted, the individal had to report to the facility. But not this time. Interesting. Are you sensing something a bit off yet?
As for the rest, the joke is long stale. The council speakers have no impact other than to kvetch and bore everybody, Janet's disability is a "been there, done that" kind of thing, and Pat Rogan has shown that one can be 22 and still be a competent public official.
DiBileo needs an intervention. He brings nothing to the table and will literally take any public office that comes with a paycheck. Sadly, the quality of candidates for office in our area is usually determined by their desire to drink from the public trough, not on any actual platform, expertise, desire to help, etc. As for McDowell, it still amazes me he has the ability to win any election. My understanding of local politics ends at trying to understand why and how these people continually get elected.
"Does anybody have a real (and serious) suggestion for what I should do?"
Yes .....either run for the office yourself or stop waiting for the two stale political parties to put up a viable candidate and find one yourself. You know lots of people, think about who would be good in your opinion and run them! Sooner or later the people of this area are going to realize the only viable candidates are not necessarily inside the political party. And please please try a little harder in the vetting process than you did with the high strung, every negative action has a perfectly good medical excuse, argumentative, thin-skinned, and oh so delightful Lynn.
As for Edith you and I both know Joeyboy has thrown every appeal and delaying action he can at the sentencing portion of the process.....the guilt/innocence phase was decided a while ago. She was convicted of theft by unlawful taking,in both the criminal and civil case. She is a convicted criminal. All that remains is to sentence her. Is it possible she won't serve "time" in a facility? Sure it is, lots of criminals beat a stay in the big house, it will not make her any less guilty of the crime..........she is a dirtball .....period.
Glenn make a run for the office or find someone that you trust and throw yourself into that campaign.

Thanks for the serious input. [You're welcome Glenn!]
Do you actually believe Joanne Pilchesky is going to serve this sentence? [You're in trouble now Glenn...you actually referenced Joanne and her felonious behavior. Joe is going to be soooo maddddd. You may be in for another 15 minute banning big guy.]I was always under the impression that once convicted, the individal had to report to the facility. But not this time. Interesting. Are you sensing something a bit off yet?[Yes, I sense that Joe Pilchesky has turned obfuscation into something an art form. Outside of the occasional homo-erotic references (i.e. "Wheaties"), this is one of the few things that he does really well.]
As for the rest, the joke is long stale. [Your opinion, not mine.] The council speakers have no impact other than to kvetch and bore everybody, [Wrong Cashuric, dead wrong. I'm assuming you've been to a council meeting. I have. They actively bully speakers who don't tow the Doomer line. I f&^%king hate bullies. Even a lame-assed opportunity to mock one of those bastards is worth taking.]Janet's disability is a "been there, done that" kind of thing, [Oh really???? So you have an update of the disability claim? If so, belly up. Last I heard this is still being dicked about, and it's not entirely clear how it will end. What Janet wants is to quietly go out on a full disability and then run for mayor. Mind you I'm not sure how being the Mayor of Scranton is less taxing than being a high school English teacher, but what they hell would I know. Anyway, she may want this quiet, but I don't.]and Pat Rogan has shown that one can be 22 and still be a competent public official.[Dougie Howser was a competent doctor on TV too. By the way, I thought he was more like 26. 22? Hell, I didn't know how close to the mark I actually way.]
Ya know Glenn, they say lawyers don't have much in the way of sense of humor. Based on the two I've worked with over the years on personal stuff, I'd tend to agree with that sentiment. You're response adds a notch to that belt. That noted, please don't too bent out of shape when someone takes your "serious" posting a bit less than serious.

I take everything on these message boards (actually, I take everything in general anymore) with a grain of salt. I think the council meetings are like a birthday party at two in the morning. Thanks for coming, but go the hell home already. I know a certain someone likes looking at Les's hindquarters, but enough.
As for the issue that dare not speaketh its name...people who are convicted go to jail. They do not usually get to appeal and roam around. I sense interference somewhere along the line.
Glenn!!! You did a Lynn and avoided the real point all together......either you run for office or run someone who you think is worthwhile. Once again I must beg you to please engage in a more vigorous vetting than you did with Lynn.
Mellow and the machine are frantically trying to clear the field for O'Brien/Mariani as commissioners and DiBileo as controller. No point in jumping in front of this freight train of corruption.
That is ridiculous of course there is a reason....several actually. You don't believe they are going to be good for the county. So do something about it.
Glenn, I had to laugh at your comment about the birthday party. My mother taught me something in Polish which roughly translates to: "Mother, let's go to bed, our company wants to go home."

I'm not trying to pick on you sir, although I have somewhat adversarial responses to you twice in one session. Drug dealers, shoplifters and very violent criminals go to jail. The people like Joe Donahue, (former) Judge Toole, and many white collar criminals are granted the luxury of freedom until they exhaust every appeal...and sometimes even longer. Although I think Joanne P should be locked up after her conviction, her case is the rule for most "white collar" criminals, not the exception.
You have suggested a few times that this is case is somehow "different" can you please explain what you mean by that? Can you also explain why Edith wrote out checks in both her married name and maiden name?
