will I even consider voting for someone who choose to "announce" on DD and who has never uttered a word of protest over the racial, homophobic, borderline pornographic, etc..etc, posts? >>>>>Lets see now...<thinking thinking> Oh that's right...NOT!!!!!
This seems like as good a place and time as any to make a personal announcement. Before I do that, let me just make a few statements. I love Scranton, fell in love with the city before I fell in love with my husband Larry, of 22.5 years. I do not think I know it all...or can fix it all, just hoping to make my little corner of the universe a better place.
I am not necessarily or by any stretch of MY imagination a perfect role model!!!! I smoke, I can curse like a drunk sailor but do mind my language around the elderly and children! I am not more then a social drinker USUALLY...but have been known to over imbibe, but that is extremely rare, and usually about oh.......every few years! I never ever ( and I can not say that about too many things in my life) drive after drinking ( I was hit by a drunk driver 2X's in the same accident when I was 19).
I have more than a few skeletons in my closet. Since I don't know what the average # of unflattering "phases" of the typical American 44 year old women is. I honestly can not gauge "my secrets" as being odd, excessive or highly dysfunctional. I do know that when my son was in first grade, I told his teacher at the time, half joking and half serious...that I would work to be a better role model for my son!!! And I have!!
I am fairly well traveled, have lived in vastly different areas, with vastly different types of people; and made Scranton my choice (with my husband off course) to raise our youngest child here. My husband returned to Scranton in April of 2007. Myself and our son Joshua, joined him in June of that year. Iam a Long Islander, by birth and attitude, and depending on the day and who you talk to, that can be a double edged sword. I have no problem poking fun at myself and try to take others poking at me with good humor, although I am much better at dishing it out than receiving taunts.
I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from St. Joseph's College (LI campus) in Community Health and Human Service. I briefly attempted to pursue my Master's degree at the Nealson A. Rockefeller School of Public Policy @ SUNY Albany; but did not finish.
My degree and a boat load of patience will qualify one for a rewarding albeit, poorly paid position in the Non/ Not for profit community with special emphasis on the mental health. I am currently receiving a pension for disability retirement from the federal government. My medical condition (s) are private and I wish for them to remain so. That may not be realistic, but that is my desire.
I am continually frustrated by many things I see in our community. I am also very opinionated and headstrong. With all that being said, I have decided to run for a seat on the Scranton School District board. My head tells me I do not have a snow balls chance in H.E.ll of winning, but my spirit and heart tell me I should try.
This has the potential of being either fun, rewarding and effective OR disastrous, but it sure will be interesting... Ty all for reading...and I hope if nothing else you can wish me luck.
Beautiful ... imagine the state of the District if one of the regular DD'ers and remember she's also a doomer ... wins!

As a regular poster on pretty much all the local boards, I understand your concerns. But Mrs. Bloom has the potential to be a very effective school board member because (a) she speaks her mind, (b) she is open to new ideas, and (c) the political machine drives her nuts.
I will invite her over here and you can toss her into the crucible. Any legitimate candidate should be able to handle criticism and answer questions from opposing viewpoints.

I would like to know what direction she sees our School District heading in ... what ideas she has to better the education of our Students ... I'm not terribly interested in hearing that she is going to cut taxes ... they all say that and then it never happens. What is her stance on Technology in our Schools and what programs will she be interested in that will help our students become well rounded productive citizens.

If she doesn’t then I know she doesn’t have what it takes to be in that seat. If she is over whelmed by us DD will eat her for light snack.
We will ask questions certainly….we will not, however, do what her comrades across the hall will do it to her if she doesn’t follow their every command every minute of her service, i.e.…attack her children and grandchildren, discuss their paternity, encourage people to watch her at all time, go through her garbage, sit across the seat in a car and “watch” her, track her movements through her private time as well as her public time, discuss her sexual orientation, and her family members, use racial, homophobic, and sexist remarks and attacks on her person to keep her “in-line”.Lynn if you think we are mistaken takes a look at our “Important Post from DD” thread. Remember if they will do that to someone else what makes you think you are any more important than those victims and you will be off limits?
Very good points IHave ... but for some reason I don't think she will come here and post.

Really doesn't matter to me one way or another ... hopefully she will ... but if she doesn't well ... I won't be disappointed.

Did you mention to her that she won't be required to build a computer to access this wesite?? I mean it is taking quite awhile for her to ....ask for access...
Hello, and so sorry it took me awhile. I am a busy Mom and active PTA member. Not to mention I have had a chronic headache for over 20 days and computers are not migraine friendly. Also, I hate to admit it, but I was using comcast's search engine to look for this site; and due to the aforementioned headache, I only realized my silliness about 15 Min's ago!
So here I am, I will be more than happy to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. If I do not know the answer, after I research the subject, I will gladly give my reply. Please keep in mind I am not officially in the race, so for now my time is still my own to use as I wish.
If she doesn’t then I know she doesn’t have what it takes to be in that seat. If she is over whelmed by us DD will eat her for light snack.

First, let me say the use of comrades is not applicable. I am a confused liberal democrat. I am a child of the cold war, lucky enough to have been married to two outstanding US Army service members and sadly saw Prague shortly after the wall came down. I do drink grape soda, but other than that I am true red, white and blue. Cohorts, peers, fellow activist whatever else, but not comrades.
I am not the moral compass for other adults, it is not my place to adjust other adults belief systems. I am not a racist, ageist, and try very hard not to be a sexist. But really need to work on that a bit. The truth is I have always worked better with men than women. Maybe it is because I grew up playing hard ball and was crushed when in middle school I was told "girls play softball"! On my block, we all played hardball, and I loved the game and the guys and girls I learned to play with and always enjoyed the long summers on LI playing with my friends.
I am prone to putting my foot in my mouth, but again, am working on that. I am loyal to 5 things in my life, my God, my husband, my country and my family and lastly but very importantly, my friends. Mostly in that order too! With that being said, I also am very good at "lightening the load" when I feel it needs to be done. I stick out in most places like a sore thumb, and am comfortable with that.
I decided to put my big mouth and my big arse to use for a positive change in my new and much loved home town. I do not think I am better than anyone else, just more honest than the average Jane. My parents, my community, my church and my life experiences have developed in me a strong moral bearing. My life up until this point in time, has lead me to who and where I am now. I have always desired to make my little corner of the universe a better place. So here I am...
What direction do you see the Scranton School District heading in? Please tell me what you feel and not what you think I want to hear.
What programs will you either try and promote or institute that will help to bring about a better education for the children of Scranton?
The socialization skills of children today are seriously lacking, what kind of programs do you see happening in our schools to help socialize children in the early years of their lives so that as the progress through the School System they are not bullies or bullied by other children?
Safety of the Children is always first and formost on my mind, what can our district do to make our students safer in our Schools ... people trust this district with the most important ... most precious posessions that they have, how do you see our District becoming a safer place for the children of Scranton?
We often hear that Children get into trouble because they have nothing to fill their hours in the evenings, are there any programs that you as a parent first, and then as a future School Director would try to implement in the Schools to try and keep the children off of the streets and in a positive environment?
Do you support the district making advances in the use of technology ... in this ever changing world we need to keep current and this is costly, but so worth it in my opinion. Do you support keeping up with the constant changes in technology that will keep our district current and help our students as they enter into the workforce. This is an area in which we cannot afford to drop the ball.
Here is my statement ... what are your thoughts?
"I do believe that Scranton is taxed highly, however when it comes to the education of the children and paying for activities of the children, I am all for paying taxes. I have no children but I believe that someone paid for me in the past that had no children so I am now paying back. I do believe that we need to do more for the children so that they become better citizens rather than residents at the Lackawanna County Prison."
What are your thoughts on the above statement?
Now as far as questioning you on the site across the hall ... well I am sure that other posters will do that ... I will not ... I am more interested in what you are planning to do for the children of the City of Scranton. I await your reply!

I will start with two question. Please take some time and review the information we have preserved here under the "Important Post from DD" thread as well as the other threads. After you have reviewed these posts and given them some thought please answer the following questions; as a potential public school official, not unlike anyone who in a position to influence my children as well as others, what they believe in (their core principles) are very important. Therefore if you wouldn't mind......
Are you comfortable being associated with the posters at DD after reading what Pilchesky, his "other screen name" posters and the handful of "real posters" have written previously about other public officials and their minor children and grandchildren?
Are you aware of his "colorful" background and his wife's impending sentencing on her conviction for stealing money out of her dead fathers estate?
1 day and counting! Actually more if you consider that I did post what I wanted to know about and she made a choice to ignore that and move on to the questions posted by IHave ... so I am still waiting and the fact that she is not answering these questions tells me that she is not running for office for the important reasons ... namely the children ... she is running to save the taxpayers money ... all well and good I guess ... but she has no vision for the Scranton School District and this is why she didn't speak to my questions I am assuming ....
Thank you for your participation Ms Bloom I will bother no further with my questions that you will not answer ...

...all school district candidates profess to be "for the children"
...all politicians profess to be honest
...all politicians profess to be for change (positive or otherwise)
...all politicians profess to love their families, God, etc.
...capisce?
Now that we have that out of the way...and seeing as though this board is called "Pilchesky Deceit"...I'll be interested to hear Ms Bloom's opinions on the tactics employed by Joe Pilchesky, his wife, and his merry band of miscreants.
Batter-up Ms Bloom.

I leave the Pilchesky questions to you guys ...

I believe on my first post I stated that for now my time is still my own. If you are expecting a time clock response from me, you will be disappointed. Especially since Friday was a late start for my son and early release. Sorry but family first for this broad. Saturday's in our home are also mostly devoted to our youngest, as he has swimming and it is the day we reconnect as a family after a busy week.
Now...down to business. In my former hometown, I saw my school taxes go up approximately 10% every year for 5 years. While there are situations in my opinion where a school tax increase is required, IE: expansion of available technology to students; increases as a matter of standard practice does not fix a districts problems.
Of my two eldest children, one left high school as a "super senior" (repeating his senior year) without graduating and the other graduated 6 months early. These children are 11 months apart, so for all intense and purposes they were reared and educated in the exact same manner. I am proud to announce that the one that did not graduate is now in possession of his GED and will be entering college shortly. But I had questioned then, and still do, what did we as parents and the school community in which he received education not do to make him successful? I will continue to ponder that.
I must clearly state, I have not read the current contract between the teachers union and the district. With that being said, I do have some ideas on how we can assist in the development of making our student population more well rounded members of our community. As a parent of an elementary school student, I know the after school activities that are offered in his school. They are IMHO extremely limited. Tutoring and chorus/band. If there are more school sponsored activities available to elementary school students, then I am not aware of them, or they are not available in my child's elementary school. I would like to see a change in this. If we implement positive "workshops" for our children in the areas such as volunteerism, Ability sensitivity (disability awareness), Bully training, and Manner workshops; low cost and high impact could be projected. While I have mentioned the focus being on the grammar schools these types of programs could be implemented district wide.
Being a former Long Islander, I have lived and learned that throwing money at problems does not predict a positive outcome. As the rest of the nation and most households have already learned, we have to do more with less, and work smarter with what we have. While it is IMHO a sad state of affairs, it is the reality in which we live.
I hope this is enough for now...I will be back with more.
I am not Ms. Bloom, I am proudly as Mrs.! Regarding DD and the admins and members, I have already stated I am not the moral compass for other adults. Do I agree with some of the tactics used, no not really. Can I understand the frustration and disgust that have lead some of those folks to where there are, you bet I can!!! One of the sad truths I have learned since moving here is a lot of people have no problem getting down and dirty and rolling around of the proverbial floor fighting.
Sadly, this is literal experience I encountered at the O'Malley Christmas Children's party of 2009. You see, I had a truly unfortunate encounter with my husband's former wife at the end of that years party. She shoved me, and with out thinking of where and who I was, I struck back. This woman then sat on my chest and pummeled me as my step-daughter held me down by my hair. It took approximately 6 men to remove them from my body.
I was forty-two years old at the time of this, I had not been in a physical altercation with another person since I was a child, I was physically and emotionally injured. But, I learned a valuable lesson, I was in a new place and some people do not play by the rules of our civil society.
I am sorry for what happed to you Lynn ... but because some people do not play by the rules ... it does not make it right for all of us to then begin breaking the rules.
I still have yet to see the direction that you would like to see the district go in.
I do not understand why you would need a Union Contract for the teachers to bring about ideas for how to keep our children off the street.
I asked that you not speak to taxes ... yet you did ... save that one for DD please as I do not recall it being something that you were asked about here at PD.
I understand that you did not officially throw you hat into that political ring to seek this seat at this time. We are trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here at PD and trying to see if and when you do are you a candiate that I/we could get behind and support. You snarky remarks are unwarrented and yes I do expect to have timely answers to my questions just as you would if you were asking them of me.
Let me just clue you in for what you are in for should you make the choice to run, no time for your family, out everynight of the week until God only knows what time. Tougher questions from the public than you will get from anyone here. And that is only a small portion of what you can expect ... now before you do this ... I would suggest that you seriously sit down and make sure that you are will to make the sacrafices necessary to run for and then do the job of Scranton School Director ... it will take away from your family ... and it has no pay ... and they will tear your family apart across the hall .... look at Chris Phillips ... a one time worshiped poster ... much like yourself ... and now they trash him every chance that they get ... are you really up for that? If so good luck to you, but I can tell you now that you have not answered my questions sufficently enough for me to pledge a vote to you.
Please read the questions again and leave out the personal family stuff that you think will get you around the question and throw me off track and just answer them honestly and if you don't have an answer please be kind enough to just say that you have no ideas.
