The couple has three young children, and the job of commissioner requires a "significant commitment," he said.
Which means an individual should not be running for commissioner, trying to act as a full-time executive, and planning a Congressional campaign at the same time.
Mr. O'Brien said while he is focused on winning a new term as commissioner in 2011, he would not rule out another run for Congress in 2012.
Unacceptable. I have nothing against ambition or a politician seeking a higher office sometime during his or her term, but this move is so blatant it is offensive.
The commissioner unsuccessfully challenged 13-term U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski in the Democratic primary last May. Mr. Kanjorski went on to lose to Republican Lou Barletta in November.
"It's way too early - one election at a time," Mr. O'Brien said. "I'm focused (on the commissioner race), but I'm not going to rule in or rule out running for any office in the future."
But he should, at least for 2012. Three elections in three years looks bad no matter how one spins it.
I am probably suffering from too much Christmas but I am missing your point I think......is it you do not believe he should run because he is unacceptable as a candidate.....or because he already has an elected postion in the county or both?
Unacceptability as a candidate is for the voters to decide. For instance, I thought Ken Smith was unacceptable. Thirty-eight percent of the voters in the primary disagreed.
I do not believe that Corey should pursue another four-year term when he has every intention in the world of serving less than one-quarter of it, and even that time will be severely curtailed by the campaign. Personally, I have had no use for the guy for the better part of three years. However, even if my personal bias did not exist, his lack of concern for the taxpayers he represents as a county commissioner is disturbing.
