I hope I am totally misunderstanding this paragraph in the Scranton Times...but if not... can someone explain why Missy Jan is acting as the message boy for the unions? Also why would the unions have the say on this issue in the first place?
In other business Tuesday, Mrs. Evans requested a letter be sent to Mayor Chris Doherty stating that the police union has agreed it would be OK for the city to use $300,000 in money from OECD to fund overtime for additional foot patrols.

Can funds from OECD be used for foot patrols? Take a look at info from OECD's website: ______________________________________________________________________________ The Office of Economic and Community Development (“OECD”), a self-sufficient department, acts as the grants administration arm of the City of Scranton. OECD identifies grant programs that could provide sources of support for a variety of community and economic development initiatives and aggressively pursues these funds. Employees are responsible for administering these grants, taking care to allocate funds to activities that best address important community and economic development needs and ensuring compliance with their regulations. OUR MISSION:______________________________________________________________________________ OECD will serve all citizens by striving to make Scranton a better place. We will do so by supporting activities that provide:Decent housing A suitable living environment Expanded economic opportunitiesTo fulfill this mission, OECD will encourage citizen participation in our programs and will work closely with other governmental agencies, private nonprofit organizations, and neighborhood groups to ensure effective collaboration and collective problem-solving.
OECD is committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing. Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability. If you have been trying to buy or rent a home or apartment and you believe your rights have been violated, you can file a Fair Housing Complaint. Visit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s website for instructions on how to file a complaint.
One last thing. If it was the mayor asking for the use of $300K from OCED for something, JaNut and the LOaDs would be raising holy heck till the ends of time. I forgot anything for the UNion. Why not support SAPA, you could ask for a few grand from OECD. Thanks Queen Bee, glad to see you have your priorities in order - Push the Unions, Not Progress!!!!
