Thomas Gervasi surrendered Thursday afternoon at the state police barracks in Dunmore.

He is accused of setting fire to an apartment building he owned at 1021 Mark Ave. on June 17, 2008. The fire destroyed the apartment building and damaged a neighboring home at 1023 Mark Ave.

Mr. Gervasi, 56, of Madison Twp., is charged with 14 counts of arson, one count of insurance fraud and five counts of criminal mischief. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Theodore Giglio, who set bail at $100,000. Mr. Gervasi was released but must post bail by noon Friday or go to jail.

Madison Twp.? He collects 2 pensions (DPW and Fire) from the city of Scranton and moved to Madison Twp. upon retirement.

By the way, what deal did he cut with Connors for his appointment as fireman?

His arrest followed an 18-month investigation by state police fire marshals.

Who pushed for this? I thought this was done and over.They claimed over a year ago they thought it was arson because he owed so many back payments,then it went away.Perhaps a rat?

I want to point out to everyone that the poster alilcrazy seems upset that they got Gervasi ... saying that there must be a rat in the rubble of that burnt out building ... one would think that they would be happy that an arsonist was caught ... but not this poster ... I wonder what Dave Gervasi and his fellow firefighters think of this ... on the evening news it was reported that he lit this fire knowing that the tennants were in the building.  I think the only rat in the rubble of that building was Tom Gervasi himself ... being a former firefighter he should have know better than to put the lives of these people in jeopardy ... and he should have know that we have a very good fire depatment and that he would most definetly get caught ... what is that saying ... if you are going to play with fire your gonna get burned!

Ya one of the tenents was a child and they were hurt.  Remember the tear out your hair preformance by Joe at the fire were the child was killed? I can I assume we can expect a big reaction right?  What is Dave's Gervasi relationship to this guy?

Well I certainly think he has had time to react to this ... but it is just my opinion that there will be no big bang on this one ... Tom Gervasi is the brother of Dave Gervasi and well we know how they love to protect their own over across the hall ... they will not pick on this one ... see how they have already reacted to the news ... there must be a rat because they thought this was all settled. Come on!

And you know what ... I am disgusted and appalled by this ... I know Tom Gervasi and to me he has always been a very nice guy ... but hell he put lives at risk!

A couple of thoughts...

a) The term "Jewish Lightning" is offensive and anti-Semitic, but since Anti is a racist scum-bag, it's to be expected.

b) Aren't all firemen supposed to be "heroes"...at least as far as some are concerned?  I guess this one may not be.

c) This guy is "retired"?

b) If guilty, then I hope they throw him away forever.

Well some would have us believe that all firemen are heros ...but in reality ... they are not ... which I think when something like this happens we feel even more let down.

Yesh Ag he is retired ... he was the one that was out on diability ... but was driving race cars while supposedly disabled. But he is now retired.

I guess that I am remembering him from years ago ... and I do find it hard to believe that the Tommy Gervasi that I once knew would do something like this ...but I am finding out lately that the people that I thought I knew best are the people that I really didn't know at all. Life is just full of surprises ... and lately most of them are not good surprises.

And you are right ... if he did do this he should rot in jail ... putting the lives of people in jeopardy for his own financal gain ... like I said it's surprising and not a good surprise.

wow did you blow this out of proportion.He asked who pushed for his arrest he didnt say arson  was a good thing.you are a crack pot anti.you must read between the lines .Arson is a horrible thing ,especially for cash it displaced people and harmed them Also put his fellow fire fighters in harm.Anti get your facts straight.crack pot!

I made a post earlier this morning saying that Firemen and women are not heros ... and I think about that post and I have to say that I was wrong ... many of them are heros ... I'm sure that at one time Mr. Gervasi was a hero to someone ... but somewhere along the way he forgot and he became the fire bug instead of the hero that strives each and every time to save lives ... Mr. Gervasi made a choice to put lives at risk ... there is no rat ... he committed many crimes because of the multitude of bad choices he has made in his life ... so now he must pay for what he did ... and it is only due to his life choices that he is now in this situation.

It absolutely amazes me that some of the kids across the hall would take the side of the arsonist because they like his brother ... because his brother hates the city administration ...it just goes to show just how far off the mark they are when it comes to being decent human beings.

But anyway all firemen should not be "lumped" together ... many ... many of them are heros. So I do sincerely apologize for my early morning post.

I seriouly want to ask the following question OHHHHHHHHHHHHH Sherrilewis <coughdavecough or coughdave'swifecough> pipe in anytime imagine if the following had actually been the news story.


Tim Doherty former fire fighter now arrested for arson.....just imagine.  Where is the moral outrage? A child was injured due to this pig's actions.

So Joeyboy and Edith and all of you DD members where are the pictures..? the tears..?  the fund raisers?....no sympathy for the poor families affected by the Gervasi set fire? Don't you care? Isn't it politically expedient enough for you? You bunch of pigs? How about that child? I guess not good enough? Did he or she have to die first? Or perhaps it's because this one was caused by one of your own aye??  You can't blame this one anyone but Gervasi so you could care less about the families since you can't get any press out of it you bunch of slimballs and press whores.
