...not that I think those gals didn't milk the "over-time whore comment" because they did big time......but I have to agree this gentlemandoes seem to rise to the top of problems. Not a good trait when your boss has his eyes set on a higher office and can not afford an albatros around his neck.

Who would take the job? Who would be good for the job? From what I hear there are only a few doherty supporters down the police dept and they are the supervisors. Who will leave the union for at best a 4 year job?
I'd say there would be plenty of people eager to get the Chief of Police job. It's a power trip. Being the head of a police department, even Scranton Police, has it's rewards. The worst case scenario is someone would take the Chief position, and when Doherty leaves, they would go back to their former rank.

Any new chief cannot go back to their rank, they leave the union willingly, that is why typically chiefs are dept. veterans who have enough time in to collect a pension.
I would imagine that they would go, it's not a small pay cut they are looking for ... I would think that it would be a financial hardship for them to stay and take a $15,000 per year pay cut ... I know that I would not be able to handle a financial hit like that. Would you?

I don't think Janet even has the authority to cut salaries like this, ESPECIALLY for the fire and police chiefs. This is for show folks. That's it. No teeth at all.
First of all, no one's salary has been cut yet, no positions have been eliminated, and no positions have been created. The proposal passed it's first reading. Two more to go before it's considered passed. And even then, the validity of the measure remains in question.
Second, the pay for 2010 had been budgeted and legally passed. Therefore, like it or not, it's binding. As far as this little payroll excercise goes, the city is legally bound to pay these amounts to the named officials, except for reasons of cause or in cases of moral turpitude. This is nothing more than sound and fury, signifying nothing. If Evans wants to wield her spiteful butget cutting axe, she has to wait until year end, when she can legally do it. As it is now, she's on very thin ice.
Third, if she attempts to enforce this bogus measure's passage, all the money she believes she's saving the City will quickly be eaten up in legal fees when the wrongful termination and other lawsuits surely begin flowing in.
Once again, the bitch is in it for her own ego and nothing else. Enjoy your last three years of public service, Mrs. Evans, assuming you aren't forced to resign in shame before completing your term.
