Well, rumors are rumors. DD is full of them. Most rumors need a place to be vetted. But the individual who posts something must be willing to place his or her credibility on the line. For instance, I would never mention unreported heroin use on school property without trusting my source.
Glenn Cashuric as city clerk? Doesn't he make more money as a lawyer? Does Cashuric have the training to be Council's solicitor?
I have not spoken with Janet Evans since before the general election. Dutch and I occasionally touch base on the phone so we can bounce ideas back and forth or he can blow off steam knowing it goes no further. (except when I drop his name and my conection to him and that leads directly back to......)
Who takes a political job for money? Otherwise, I do okay. No five-bedroom house in Waverly or 7-series, but then again, my father hasn't had a law firm for a half-century and I have no political connections. If it hasn't become obvious, making serious money in this area usually (not always, but usually) requires a deal with an elected official or some other sleazy backroom arrangement with a "developer" or "local businessman". (lucky for me I have Dutch whoo hoo!!)
Give me fifteen million dollars with no strings attached and I can build anything you want. I'd probably even create some permanent jobs.
Council solicitor? I'm always interested in new opportunities. Honestly, though, if Team Evans needs someone to start taking a ton of people to court and filing nonstop lawsuits, I freely admit that there are attorneys with much more experience in civil litigation. It's the decision they would have to make, and sometimes a leader has to occasionally tell somebody "no". My support did not depend on employment or some other kind of quasi-kickback. ( but I sure was hoping and praying and kissing ass like it was my job!!)
When it comes time to analyze numbers and design a much-needed new revenue system, she knows she can call me for suggestions and, if needed, advice. (code for pick me! pick me! pick me! Enough said?)
Why would a lawyer who doesn't live in Scranton have a stake in Janet Evans' team getting elected?
For four years, I watched a politically-frustrated reformer abused by a majority (and mayor) whose only purpose was to feather the nests of a select few while convincing those most vulnerable that they should pay more for the privilege of sitting idly by and watching their city be exploited by "businessmen" and "investors" who came in, pillaged, and left the taxpayers holding the bag.
For two years, I watched a college student knock on tens of thousands of doors only to be rebuffed because he made the mistake of trusting the most corrupt city political organization that ever existed (Lance Stange excluded). So he loses and then does the unthinkable in Lackawanna County Politics: he analyzes his loss and manages to correct every single mistake that caused it.
So when I hear in 2008 that these two are putting together a team and shooting for a sweep, I can't resist. An opportunity to elect a young councilman who isn't lazy, drunk, and/or stupid and a chance (finally) for the veteran to use every political chip she has to put up or shut up.
I thought Judy Gatelli had a chance until the middle of April. Then I didn't. But it needed to be brought home, and I had an opportunity to watch this team do its thing close-up. I never get opportunities like that.
After May, they didn't need anybody. Doug Miller needed a push toward implosion, but that was always destined to happen considering the players and personalities involved. I know who can't resist doing what.
Now it's over, and I get to see for once and for all whether a government entity in Northeastern Pennsylvania can be run for the benefit of the people as a whole. Over the past ten years, I watched (a) the Corcoran/Castellani team lose control, (b) the Munchak/Cordaro team become a disappointing fiasco of corruption and waste, (c) my local council become a short-sighted entity in a downward spiral whose sole mission is to raise electric rates so they can buy millions of dollars in volunteer fire equipment (conflict of interests go across the borough), and (d) the Mid Valley School District head for almost certain investigation and indictments. In fact, I doubt the superintendent will last through his five-year contract.
If Team Evans succeeds, I got what I wanted for 2009.
So what? So what indeed ...IF you don't pretend your interest is altruistic. If you are interested in a job be a man and just admit it. Don't prance around pretending to be above all of that and then .....wham deed done! If you do you run the risk of either being picked on by me or ....turning into Missy Jan. God knows her reason for becoming a school director was "for the kids" right? Getting a job was an amazing coincidence right?........<gag>
He did state that he's always interested in new opportunities, but I don't think he wants to turn into a school director like Jan.
Actually (and please please correct me if I am wrong) but our dear Glen was asked directly here what his iron in the fire was and he was adament that he was not interested in any job. Lus or Girl? I believe one of you asked him in a post right? I actually think Glen is quite bright and capable it is simply unfortunate thast he has allowed his credibility to suffer through his less than hidden euphoria over Missy Jan and less than honest response as to why he was so "into" the recent elections. I don't think he wants to turn into a director like Missy Jan either but I do think he wouldn't mind raking in the bennies like she did for being in the political arena

I don't recall being the one to call Glenn to the carpet, but am I to understand from what's posted above that he has political aspirations connected with our CITY council? And doesn't one have to live in the CITY to be associated with it's council, because last I heard he haled from 'up the line'.
Must have been Lus then who questioned his intense interest in Scranton politics of course he claimed nothing but a interest for interest sake. YA! I don't think you have to live in Scranton unless you want to run for an office or work for the fire or police. I nice fat appointed job is fine regardless of were you live. :)

a. "Glen(n) Exposed" sounds both obscene and horrifying.
b. I am always interested in new opportunities, regardless of location. In this economy, it would be idiotic not to keep options open or to categorically rule out any future participation in the political arena. But to be perfectly honest, I have not seen or spoken to Janet Evans since October. Dutch and I, as I stated, occasionally chat, as we continue to be on friendly terms. We exchanged New Year greetings today and he filled me in the swearing-in proceedings.
c. Watch the meeting on television tomorrow. As the new majority is sworn in, my car will be parked in my driveway and I will be in the home office, bundled up and chugging gallons of espresso to keep myself warm.
All this ranting and all you can say when Glenn posts is that it's nice to see him?? Geez. If all you want is to have contact with the man, you can simply call him at his office and have a chat.
my point with the post was simply to point out the fact that the answer to the question "What's up with Glen's interest in scranton politics" has been answered. I neither wanted nor needed a response from either of you on it. It was however nice to see him post so I shared that thought.....now my next thought is what's up with you and your vehement ( this btw is a vehement reaction Glen) "bodyguard" reaction with Glen.....got a crush on him? :)

I was the one who often questioned why Glenn was so interested in the politics of Scranton and why he does not seem even remotely interested in the politics of his own home ... it was just something that I have been curious about ... and before Rare Form thinks I'm picking on Glenn I am not ... I just have been wondering about this for a long time.

Au contraire. I am extremely involved in Olyphant politics, right down to my perfect attendance record at the often-tedious council meetings. We simply don't have knock-downs in public. All of our squabbling is done behind the scenes and "off-camera".
There really weren't any meetings yet. The reorganization doesn't count for much. We'll see what happens with the council appointment on Tuesday and how the speakers react.
I don't think it will be Gary DiBileo, and that may not go over well with some of the faithful.
Good to know Glenn ... I am thrilled that you are as involved in Olyphants politics as you are in Scranton's.

I probably would have stayed "retired" (which I only did once) but the heading "Glenn Exposed" really piqued my curiosity. Sorry, no photos. Don't want to frighten the kids, and besides, we're between biking seasons. I'm not Les, you know. I can't keep the metabolism going strong all year round.
Speaking of Les ... he wasn't sporting his Legion Of Doom shirt at last night's meeting. I wonder if they're having new T's made up in honor of the new 'regime'

Glenn deep down loves us so he just couldn't stay away ... LOL ... I took a little break myself and well I was pleasently surprised to see he was once again posting.
