Joe Pilchesky really needs to get a grip.  He is now encouraging people to attend Council Meetings armed with guns.

He is and so are many others against an ordinance that is going to be passed that requires gun owners to make a report of a gun that has been stolen ... how is this a bad ordinance?

Annie get your gun for next council meeting - lots of armed gun owners expected to show up
Printer Friendly

It's should be a good one. There is an illegal ordinance on the agenda concerning firearms because there is already a state law on the books that preempts the passing of this ordinance, according to my source.

6. CONSIDERATION OF ORDINANCES READING BY TITLE
A.
READING BY TITLE FILE OF COUNCIL NO. 87, 2009 AN ORDINANCE - TO AMEND CHAPTER 232 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF SCRANTON TO REPEAL ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 232 TITLED FIREARMS AND REPLACE WITH A NEW ARTICLE I TITLED FIREARMS, TO PROVIDE FOR DEFINITIONS, DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS AND FAILURE TO REPORT LOST OR STOLEN FIREARMS, AND RENUMBERING THE REMAINING SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 232 IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER.

The website http://www.pafoa.org/ is all over this and with 20,000 members there could end up being plenty of openly armed people there to speak out against this illegal ordinance. Here is the thread where it is being discussed. http://forum.pafoa.org/lackawanna-45/73563-alert-scranton-lost-stolen-ordinance-city-hall-9-29-please-attend-oppose.html

One of the guys discussing this was the man who was arrested at Old Country Buffet. He is an FFL, a federal firearms licensee, and he is a real bulldog when it comes to gun rights. His name is Rich Banks and he is from Mountaintop. Their federal lawsuit against Dickson City is scheduled for December in Federal court.

As he sits behind his keyboard telling people to show up at Council with guns ... is there anyone out there that for one second believes that he himself will show up wearing a firearm?  Well let me tell you he won't ... he never shows for what he tells you all he believes in, in fact I would think that the only thing (other than going to jail and getting yourselves a hefty fine) that this will accomplish is further stroking his ego.  As he sit back trying to come up with things that he can make his "bottom feeders" do ... I say that if you are against this ordinance then speak out ... but for God's sake and your own please ... please ... please leave your guns at home!  But for the life of me ... I will never understand why someone would be against this particular ordinance.  Get a grip people because if someone happens to get shot with a gun that is stolen then your mentor would be asking the question?  Why was this gun never reported stolen.  He stands against everything ... good or bad that is done by this Administration ... without them he would have to figure out what to do with his life ... they feed his ego and so do all of you ... for once in your lives do the right thing and stop feeding this beast!

Pilchesky is a true paper tiger; being too old to physically intimidate anyone, he now regularly resorts to using the Internet and the court system to do his bullying for him.  This is just another example of that in action.

And who is their lawyer? Certainly isn't the likes of JP. They probably went and hired one of those high-fallootin' lawyers from the big city.

That is exactly right they did look like a bunch of loons, which by the way caused them to harm their cause not further it.  Most people need to remember just because you can do something does not mean you should do it, common sense is supposed to play into your actions as well.  In the event of some disaster or major problem I will be happy to see people who are law abiding openly displaying their fire arms to discourage any law breaking<i.e. looting during a blackout> but generally speaking day to day to is just not necessary, unless, of course, you feel woefully inadequate in other areas.

Hey why don't they try and bring their fire arms into the White House ... Now that might prove a point. Nah that would only get their sorry arses thrown into jail ... but I am surprised that Joey Boy doesn't encourage them to do that.

Now if you have a permit to carry a weapon ... and it is your constitutional right then why in the world are there places that you cannot bring them ... like court houses? And you don't see them up in arms (pardon the punn) over that. This just does not make sense to me.

And can anyone tell me why this ordinance is a bad thing? All they want you to do is to report your gun stolen 48 hours after the time you know that it has been stolen ... again ... how is this a bad thing?????? I don't get it!

The ordinance is not a bad thing, but some folks subscribe to the "slippery slope" theory when it comes to EVERYTHING.  In my experience, the hard-core NRA crowd are some of the worst offenders.  You know, it's the group that thinks outlawing the ownership shoulder-fired missiles will automatically lead to government agents coming into your house to confiscate your shotgun.  Lunacy...sheer lunacy.

True story.I had a break in my home some time ago and they stole cash and two very expensive guns one of them a colt ar15 assualt rifle and the only thing the cops worried about was the gun and serial number not that some one broke in and violated my space I wouldnt give them the serial number with out a start to the investigation but after a few months I gave it to them. After 2 years had past I get a registered letter from a detective from the finest scranton has to offer and the wanted to know   Get This! wanted to know If I wanted them to start to do an investigation.Yes 2 years later they wanted to do an investigation I almost fell over the stolen guns have been on the street already for 2 years whats to investigate I told them who I thought did it way back. These guns can be any where but if one of there own god for bid was shot, what would happen then

I am not a card-carrying member of the NRA, but I do believe in my right to own a gun and to use that gun to protect myself and my family. I've got an itty-bitty .38. Yes, it is licensed. It's been sitting untouched on my closet shelf, in the same strong box that I put it in almost 20 years ago. Also rattling around that box are six bullets.

Do I think I'll ever have to use it? Hopefully not.
Can I get to it if I need it? Yes.
Will I be able to pull that trigger if I'm face-to-face with some snot-nosed kid looking for my jewelry? I don't think so.
Will I be able to pull that trigger if anyone in my family's life is endangered? You betcha.

I can understand how some people will own more than one gun - hunters, collectors, etc. But why the hell does anyone need to have their very own armory? Why would anyone need to have multiple AK47's and/or assault rifles? Not just to have them, to collect them, to admire them -- but be able to USE them and get bent out of shape when (or if) you're questioned about it. No deer or turkey hunter needs an assault rife to take down Bambi.

You've got a handgun, more power to you. You have a permit to carry it concealed, good for you. You feel the necessity, not only to take it into a restaurant or a public venue, but to advertise it by wearing it on your belt, you're just showing off and are looking for a fight. Maybe not a gunfight, but you're pushing the envelope just for the sake of pushing it. That's pilcheski's credo - push push push until someone pushes back, and then cry like a girl about it and claim your constitutional rights are being infringed upon.

I should have added to the second paragraph:
After 20 years in a box, do I actually think that .38 might work?

Girl Thursday, after 20 years in a box, I think the gun will still work, but the bullets probably will not.

The whole 2nd amendment gun thing is something that should be decided at the state level, not the municipal one.  There are simply too many little towns, burroughs and villages in this Commonwealth to make it practical.

I imagine openly carrying a gun on your hip would be a deterrent to many criminals.  But from my perspective, a lot of the folks filmed at these meetings would be hard pressed to retain those sidearms if a person with some skill attempted to take the gun from them.

Their holsters aren't designed for security, and don't have the the requisite retention devices like those worn by police and sheriffs.

Finally, what in God's name are our state legislators thinking allowing "open carry" anyway?  In Pennsylvania, you must pass a test and possess a license to drive a car, but if you are 21 and have a couple hundred bucks you can walk around like Wyatt Earp, no training required.  In fact, as long as you haven't been convicted of a crime, and you're capable of filing out the paperwork, you can purchase a handgun and wear it on your side.

Somehow, I thought the standards should be a little more restrictive.

Very well put Balko.

As for our legislators, I'm convinced that they are mentally retarded.  Who else would think that taxing the $hit out of cigarettes was okay, but taxing snuff or cigars was not?  This is a group that never met a brand of palm grease that they didn't like.
