He will claim he never said it .... and if Doherty wins ... then he will sue someone along with saying he never said it and he will sue those of us who said that he did say it.

This race is doing the exact opposite of what I originally thought would happen. The mayor is actually losing steam, and I think at this point (though he still has three weeks to work his magic) that his third term is in serious jeopardy.
Sometimes you have to know when temporary retirement is a better option.
Doherty by 2. Evans and Joyce finish in the top two, with Gatelli and Rogan fighting it out for the ever-important third spot. I don't really care who wins school board or tax collector, but you know, I'd really like Bill Courtright to finish his term this time.
I think Gary DiBileo had some momentum in the mid-stretch if you will (yesterday was Derby day), but he seems to be losing some steam, and now is the stretch that matters most. Without the benefit of anything other than my own best guess, I'd have to say Doherty wins but in a very close race. Claims a blow-out are greatly exaggerated.
How does Doherty win? Well whenever I've talked to Scranton residents at work about this race, one of the things that comes out of their mouths...consistently...about Gary is that he is a "puppet of the unions". Most younger folks who live in Scranton...
...aren't union members ...don't get what the unions are complaining about (a Scranton city union job looks pretty damn good in this economy when the best you could get out of college is a job in a call center) ...love the parks
...none of which helps Gary. Doherty helps his cause by painting Gary as the union-lacky candidate because of the above (for those that don't pay attention to local politics). For those that do pay attention to local politics, Doherty needs to remind them of how shaky Gary has been when it comes to controversial issues...Gary never met an issue he couldn't waiver over (something even Gary's supporters have to admit).
Now does this mean Doherty should be the next Mayor? I'm not so sure about that conceptually, but in fact if the only two choice are:
a) the guy that spends too much b) the guy that vascilated trying to decide what socks to wear...until a union boss tells him which socks to wear
...then all other things being held equal, such as the fact that they both have or will appoint political hacks to political jobs, I'll pick 'a'.
