At the top of the page you will see an area called Links ... there is a link that will take you to the City Data Forum ... I used to really enjoy going to the City Data Forum ... they had intelligent posts concerning NEPA ... so many nice people posting there ... and lately I have become a Message Board Junkie ... I don't know what it is ... but I really love reading other peoples opinions ..
At City Data you used to be able to get information on happenings in NEPA ... not just Scranton ... but all over NEPA ... it was qutie a positive place to read and post.
Lately however it has turned into a kinder gentler DD ... there are no sexual references or threats of violence ... but led by Daniel Hubbard every thread seems to take a lets bash Scranton turn.
And just like the kids across the hall ... there are a few posters who if you do not agree with them ... they attack you personally ... the personal attacks can be quite brutal ... I have been on the receiving end of an attack from Mr. Hubbard when he tried to portray scranton as the most violent area ever ... claiming that murders happen on an almost daily basis here ... scaring away interested parties who may want to make a home here ... increasing our taxbase so our personal burden woudn't be so difficult. But Daniel and a few (not all) of the City Data posters can't see this ... and then again do they want to because if the tax base increases and the city did happen to come back then what in the world would these people have to bitch about ... because as it seems painfully obvious to me ... that's really the only thing that gives these people any amount of joy.
Go figure ... and I really don't know why I posted this ... but I felt the need ... and just one more thing I guess I think that this forum is more destructive than DD ... why you ask ... because they suck you in thinking that it will be a nice place to post ... and then you notice that the bashing of Scranton seems to generate the most comments ... and it seems that those are the only threads that Mr. Hubbard participates in ... and God forbid Poster CHS89 posts a response ... then all hell seems to break loose because it seems as though CHS89 (our very own Paul) tries to be a voice of reason ... and that is something that some simply do not want over there.
Many of their own posters have stated that it's beginning to have a DD feel to the place. I'm not sure that's something that the City Data Forum adiminstrator would like ... but what the hell do I know ... maybe it's all about how many hits the site gets ...
Anyway thanks for letting me vent. I have not rambled for quite a while!

I think I've posted a total of once on City Data Forum myself. Everything Hubbard writes there simply rambles on, and so much of the other postings are just people disagreeing with his rambling on. It's like watching a cat chase it's tail.

Lus & Ag what you posted is oh so true. I used to go to City Data to find out things to do/visit in Northeastern PA for planning some day trips with the family, but with all the Scranton bashing I backed off. The latest doozy had to be the thread about Obama taking away our guns and the constitution when ended up something you'd read on the MidWestMilitia.org site.
Once I even started a thread over there about why folks stay in the area if things are so bad, and I believe Danny Boy spoke about his family legacy in Scranton (He moved to the area from NJ when he was young, even then he didn't live in Scranton) and Doherty & Compant aren't driving him off his homestead rants. I also believed that he implied that once his father is gone and his son goes away to college, him and his wife are leaving.
Both JOey LanD and City Data have served their purposes for me, that's why I hardly visit them any more.

I know the type very well: they rant and rave about how much Scranton sucks, but yet they have no desire to leave. Unlike the vast majority of DD idiots, I've actually lived other places (New Jersey, Southcentral PA) and I personally think it's pretty nice here, all things considered.
Think crime is bad in Scranton? Go visit Newark.
Think the economy is bad in Scranton? Try and find a non-farming or non-Klan/Skinhead organizer job in Adams County.

I began reading City Data over a year ago ... I had my very fist post removed because of a violation of the TOS (I wrote a post the promoted this site) ... I was warned ... and so I didn't post for a while ... the I posted about the Dog Park ... Dan ripped into me for the first time and told me to go back to PD ... he accused me of making fun of him as a flood victim ... it was crazy ... so I didn't post for a while ... but then I began posting again ... he ripped into me again and again ...
He would have people believe that you can't walk the streets of Scranton for the violence that is happening ... he bashes the Mayor every chance he gets ... no matter what the subject of a thread he seems to turn it into ... a Doherty bashing session ... so he has turned CD in to a version of DD ... even the posters over there are feeling it ...
If I were as unhappy here as he seems to be ... I would definetly move out ... if I lived in a flood zone ... I would definetly move to a home on higher ground ... but hey that's just me.
And if I were the head of a neighborhood organization ... and I was not getting what I need from the city ... namely a flood siren .... I would begin efforts to raise the money myself ... Fundraisers ... raise that money for the siren ... should the city purchase it for them ... YES .. but it does not seem that they will ... so look to a new direction ... I'll bet that there is a grant out there somewhere for the money.

Little Danny enjoys complaining...he enjoys bashing the Mayor...he enjoys the attention associated with being Pilchesky Junior. Actually doing something constructive...such as raising money for the siren or, God-forbid, talking civily to an elected official (other than Janet "trolling at the bottom for votes" Evans)...wouldn't be nearly as fun for Danny-Boy as simply bitching like a jilted 7th grader.
Amazing...utterly amazing. A guy who has had trouble holding on to a job (Just what do you do for a living Danny? Oh, and remember the failed stint as a Call Center Rep?) and has had to publically apologize for slandering should be about the last to constantly throw stones at others. Class act man, class.

The thing that gets me about the city data forum is that it was quite a nice place ... it was full of information on happenings in the area .. the posters are for the most part really great people ... if you wanted information on a particular area that you were thinking of purchasing a home in ... all you needed to do was post a thread with a question about that area and they would post everything you would want to know about it ... and for the most part it would be positive things ... but like I said anytime anyone would ask a question about anywhere in Scranton ... Danny boy would bash the hell out of the city ... tell the person who was asking that Scranton has enough of the NY/NJ implants coming here spreading crime ... it's kind of crazy ... he makes it seem as though we have a murder here in Scranton everyday of the week ... now I'm thinking for someone who does not want to have his taxes go up that he would try to make this city a better place and welcome these people with open arms ... just because they are moving out of NY/NJ does not mean that they are the criminal element ... but that's how Danny makes them all feel ...
I don't really care who lives next door to me ... they could be from Mars for all I care ... the only thing I care about is that they are law abiding citizens who are willing to make a contribution to society ... and if the only contribution they make is being a good law abiding neighbor ... the I say "WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD!"

my question is this, "Why did they move here in the first place?" i think they need to figure out why they came to this supposed "hellhole" to raise their kids, live their lives, etc. I've heard why dan came, but what about that patilla lunatic? heard how greener the grass was in scranton?
I don't think Patilla is a Poster on City Data ... I have not seen anything like the crazy rants that flow out of him over there.
