I find it amazing how shallow the support for "working people" really is at DD. The people who are actually and personally impacted by this...the clerical union members...seem to think the new contract represented a reasonable deal, as they voted overwhelmingly for it. While I don't know all the contract details, I will make two comments on information provided in the Scranton Times article (good job Stacy, BTW)...
...the work-week thing, going from 35 to 40 hours, in anywhere other than governmental work wouldn't be an issue. They are working...and getting paid to work...five extra hours a week. Big deal. Welcome to the real-world, where most people work far more than 35 hours per week.
...they still get a sweet deal on health insurance. I work for a financial services company and I pay far more for family coverage than what was quoted in Stacy's article.
Bottom line on this? Pilchesky and his merry band of cretins just want clubs to beat on Doherty, with every other consideration being secondary. So in their minds the Clerical and DPW workers are no longer useful, as city unions are looked upon favorably only to the extent that they can service HIS needs. It works both ways though: DD posters who are union members USE Pilchesky's board to undermine the Mayor for their own purposes.

I thought it was all about "rights" across the hall. I guess the clerical union doesn't have the "right" to vote on their own contract without asking permission from the goons? Nice! Real nice! And they have the nerve to point fingers at anyone else for imposing their will on others?
Across the hall is full of arm chair, Monday morning political activists. Vote, vote, vote and if the result doesn't fit their agenda than everyone is a coward.
