From da podium each week comes criticism after criticism (at times well deserved other times simply idiotic) about the spending of "da tax payer's money". Each item that council votes on regarding money is always scrutinized, from dog parks to planting trees. How ironic though that the citizens are for giving $20k to a broadcast channel that will be shut down once the new company is up and running. Paying 20K (with no chance of return on investment) so that da council meedins won't go off the air for a month, how does that benefit the city? A majority of their weekly antics and attitudes only further drive a wedge between the administration and the populace. Can you imagine if the mayor came up with this idea? It shows the near sighted, "if it doesn't benefit me" attitude of the small group that claims to represent all da citizens.
I do rather enjoy watching the council meetings much the same way I enjoy Howard Stern show on my drive to work. But if that 20K could go to say getting cops back on the beat, better fire equipment, or improving the city, I would be able to find something else to fill my Tuesday evening.
This crew wants to complain about finances only to the extent that the argument can be used as a blunt instrument against people they don't like. When it comes self-gratification, they are more than willing to spend money like a drunken sailor on leave in Bangkok.
By the way, I came across this DD training video on how to speak at City Council meetings. Note the blonde council member at 0:55...dead ringer for Janet Evans, circa 1982.

What I find truly funny is how they talk about how much better things were between the Connors Administration and the Unions than they are between the Doherty Administration and the Unions ...
I remember the days when Connors didn't have a good relationship ... and I remember there was and event at Nay Aug Park that had city employees carrying signs that read "Connors is Unfair" ... I recall driving through Minooka and seeing city employees carrying protest signs ... singing songs as they picketed his house carrying those same signs ... I recall being at Council Meetings that you couldn't find a seat because there were so many city employees attending the meeting ... can you guess what they had ... that's right ... those same signs ... I remember another Gervasi (Tommy) speaking at the Podium about how employees were not being given a fair shake ... The public does not remember ... why because there were no cameras to broadcast this into the living rooms ... Faye was not there ... Les was not there ... Andy Sbaraglia .... was not there ... these same people who claim to care ... well they came when the cameras came ... I left when the cameras came ... they say more take an interest since the cameras came into the room ... and I can tell you that most of the people who were in attendance before the cameras stopped going because of the antics that came into play ...
These people who go to council meetings go so that they can play to the cameras and the crowd ... they like the fame that it brings them ... Faye used to attend School Board Meetings on a regular basis until the cameras came into council chambers ... now she is a council rat ... she lives to be disrespectful to public officials ... for her it's a hobby ... with all of the new construction in the SSD one would think she would be hightailing it back to 425 N. Washington ... but I guess she's lost interest in that since she couldn't put a stop to SHS ...
Anyway .... I think I went off track here ... what I am really trying to say is this ... maybe Council Meetings shouldn't be broadcast ... and if they continue to broadcast them ... maybe they should only play repeats of this programing after 9 PM ... as I do not think that children should be watching ... how do we teach our children to be respectful if they wittness this ... sorry for the ramble ....

Oh and the relationships between the Unions and Connors was not much better than they are now .... that's the point I was trying to make!
It didn't take quite this long for some to get a contract ... but he didn't treat the employees with much respect ... and maybe there was a huge surplus due to the fact that he didn't like to pay the bills ... we were constantly in arrears on all utility bills ... so maybe that was his way of saving money ...

It is spoken and echoed from da podium every single week, "KEEP THE KONSIL MEETINGS ON DA TV SO DA CITISENS CAN SEE HOW EVIL YEWS TREE ARE". Now along comes ECTV who is awarded the contract to 61/62. ECTV will broadcast da meetens and they are going to put them on the internet! Seems like the a victory for DD since NADB has vacated her role as council minute DD transcriber. BUT OH NO, the village moron is going to sue them so they can not get their channel up and running! Great move Joe, now the meetings will go black, and they will blame it on da konsil. (I haven't the foggiest what a puppy smells like but Joe seems too)
ECTV's attempted takeover of 61/62 will be challenged to the maximum prosecution possible, right to the Supreme Court if necessary. There are still many unanswered questions and Darcy is off to a bad start by lying under oath to the Zoning Board. What kind of guy would do that? And we're to trust what he says? The guy drips with puppy.
Council should make every effort to keep these meetings on the air. It is government transparency at its finest. You don't agree with a speaker? Too bad. Some people are mean? Too bad. A well-informed electorate is able to differentiate between malcontents and people with honest concerns.
Council members are adults who made a choice to run for office.
I agree with everything Glenn wrote. Malcontents? Why do you think Pilchesky never appears at council meetings himself, let alone speak? Precisely because he knows that people can differentiate between malcontents and those with an honest beef. He's not so stupid as to want to be seen with his own flock of...as he himself described them...'Bottom Feeders'.

I posted this back in November in the moderators sub forum .... I am now bringing it to the member forum because I think it's an illustration of how Les Spindler puts on a show for the cameras at Council Meetings. That's why he wants to keep the funding so that they can stay on for that month or whatever ... can't have the cameras stop rolling ... God Forbid.
Les pretends to care about issues like Free Swimming for Children ... but somehow I find it very hard to believe that he would care about that .... he does not care ... and there is noody that can convince me that he does.
anyway .... Les stop pretending ....some of us pay attention when we see you out ... and as far as I could tell ... all of the people you claim approach you when you are out to speak for them at council meetings ... simply exist only in your head as I saw nobody even approach you to say hello ... sad that you have a fantasy life in your head ... and sad that you will never be as important to the "people" as you have come to believe you are.
You ... and Fay do not now ... nor will you ever be asked to .... speak for this taxpayer! You will never be asked to represent me.

Les Spindler really cares for the poor children of Scranton
I was out shopping one day ... and I found myself in the store with Les Spindler ... seems as though every place I went in the store Les was there ... Girl I'm not writing this to make you jealous ... Les is always saying that he can't go to the store without someone approaching him to talk about city business and that they are always asking him to bring things up for them ... well I can tell you this ... not one person approached Les that I saw .... not one person said anything to Les while he was doing his shopping that I saw ...
What surprised me about Les was this ... when in line ... and yes I had the misfortune of being two people behind Les in the checkout line ... the cashier asked Les if he would like to give to toys for tots ... and Les rather rudely replied a resounding No! He did however tell the cahsier that he might consider giving to them if it were going to help reduce the Doherty Debt ... can you imagine that?
So much for the poor children of Scranton!... Now that surprised me as Les I thought you were a guy who was out there fighting for poor children to swim for free ... but I guess that it's ok for them to have no presents under the tree to open on Christmas morning ... I was shocked and surprised. I guess I should not have been though because I would bet the only reason he ever asks for free swim is so that he can look like a hero on Channel 61.
Now I'm watching the council meeting on channel 61 and I see a canister there to raise money so that Channel 61 can continue on ... that's great ... I'm sure that Les gave to that ... but what kind of person would rather give to save a television station than to give for the poor children to have a Merry Christmas ... I just don't get it! Wouldn't it be nice to see the LoD bring in a canister and take a collection up for Toys for Tots or the Salvation Army ... so that the children that they profess to care so much about can have a Merry Christmas ...
I think Les is the Grinch!
